Butterscotch Oatmeal 

Im 65 and alway had cream of wheat, coco wheats, Maypo, but my favorite was chocolate oatmeal. Cook your oatmeal, then add nestles quik sugar and a little milk. Of course buttered toast with them all. Sometimes to the chocolate oatmeal we would add a little peanut butter and vanilla. We called it no bakes in a bowl. My grands kids all love chocolate oatmeal. Thanks for sharing! Gonna add this to my list.

We often had canned chili with boiled eggs for breakfast. Sometimes mom would make cornmeal mush, put it in a loaf pan overnight. Next morning she would slice and fry it in butter and we would pour syrup over it. I intend to try your butterscotch oatmeal soon!

Good morning! Thank you for sharing this recipe. I just saw your video 90 minutes ago, and just tasted my version of the recipe. I love it! I usually eat very low carb, but just happen to have oats on hand. My oats are organic old fashioned oats. I keep sugar for making kombucha, tepache, and sweet drinks for my boyfriend. I also keep molasses on hand for making brown sugar. I also keep half and half, but not milk. I made half a batch. I reduced the sugar by half, so just 2 Tablespoons. I added a pinch of salt. I just happen to have a batch of chicken bone broth in the oven at 200 degrees, so, as soon as the oatmeal came up to a boil, I covered it and put it in the oven for 20 minutes to accommodate the longer cooking time for old fashioned rolled oats. We are going to have it for dessert after we eat our frittata. I will also have some steamed kale for breakfast, but he does not like kale. Kale and eggs are my go to breakfast items. Check into whether conventional oats have high levels of glyphosate in them. Glyphosate is marketed as Round-up. I am not fond of eating farm chemicals. Happy New Year, you two! My hubby is going to love this when it gets cold . We always had oatmeal and cream of wheat with cinnamon toast . I wasn’t a fan of oatmeal but I loved cream of wheat. I loved the texture . My mom made it like your dad . Served it unsweetened and we stirred in what we wanted , sometimes we would get raisins. When I started making it for my family , I would cook in the sugar too, also at the end with the butter , I would add in flavored coffee creamer .. makes it a little richer and delicious …. I’m assuming the eggs make it richer as well, I’m definitely going to try that ❤from TX

Mom was a "special ed" teacher, obviously before they became LD classes, and she always fixed us breakfast, oatmeal (which we would butterscotch ourselves), Cream of Wheat, Malt-O-Meal, and (ugh) cracked wheat...which I absolutely hated. She would also do things ahead of her time, by putting cottage cheese or corn in the pancakes, and a family favorite were the surprise muffins, which had a bite of peanut butter in the middle of them and we could just put jelly on them. Yum! I can't wait to try your oatmeal with egg in it! Thanks for the great memories!

Oatmeal only gets better ❤ My Mamaw fixed hot rice and cream of wheat for breakfast. On cold mornings. In warm weather, it was cold rice with milk and sugar. Of course, there was toast. Made in her woodstove oven. Your video takes me back in Mamaws kitchen. 😢

T & M, I grew up on oatmeal(7 days a week, 52 weeks a year!) I'm about to break 60 years old & I still enjoy oatmeal. In your recipe "Butterscotch Oatmeal"- there is no butterscotch in the recipe, or, is that "flavor" tasted in the end results? You can't beat oatmeal for the"stick-to-your-ribs". heartiness! What a great breakfast for the kids before school. For mom & dad too. We didn't have a toaster when I was a kid so we put a pat of butter in the center of a slice of bread & put it under the broiler. To this day, it's my favorite kind of toast. 😊

We had oatmeal and cream of wheat for breakfast growing up. My 2 children had the same. We often had brown sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on top. I will try your recipe. It sounds good.

I eat my oatmeal w/toast too! Ive never made oatmeal like this, but I always add craisins & golden raisins to the water before heating. Then I add butter, brown sugar & milk once it is the bowl. So good, warm, filling. I will need to try your version.

I've never thought of Butterscotch as a flavor for oatmeal. I especially don't recall ever seeing butterscotch oatmeal in stores. I rarely eat oatmeal, but when I do it's peach. I've never really wanted any other flavor. I've also only ever made oatmeal in the microwave. During my early-mid teens and younger I only had regular oatmeal and had to add sugar and butter. I've had cream of wheat too. My most preferred cooked breakfasts are pancakes, waffles or crepes, buttered and with some maple syrup or karo. Sometimes I'll put peanut butter on top. Add some eggs, sausage/bacon... and some fruit! Mmm...

I put together a similar mix with oatmeal for my husband after his stroke he couldn't eat very solid food. I some times put a banana and vanilla. I cooked it in the microwave. Easy to do. Grandma Sue in central Indiana

Never had it like this, but might try it your way, (will try half a recipe) .I also cook mine in milk , I use Almond or Coconut or Oatmilk.....either is great for oatmeal....especially for people who doesn't eat Dairy ....and using CHIA SEEDS & FLAX SEEDS are great for people who don't eat eggs.... they are a great thickener.....Dates are a great sweetener too....

I always put cinnamon in my oatmeal, but I will have to try this. I also put nuts and dried fruit.

I will be making this..i used to make my kids hot meals everyday of school because i lived in California and cereal was very expensive. My sons used to say mom can’t we please have a bowl of cereal lol. Only time i let them have cereal was if it was on sale. Anything hot for breakfast i made it. I never made this but i will be it looked good…except for butter but i will try it once… lol sorry.

We didn't do cream of wheat when I was growing up, but we sure did grits. Still my favorite. My oldest son, now 28, would practically beg me for malt-o-meal, however. He always wanted maple and brown sugar malt-o-meal.

I sure will make this new to me butterscotch oatmeal. I suggest you try adding sugar and cinnamon to buttered bread then toasting in the oven or Air Fryer. I love making my toast in Air Fryer. It is comfort food with my oatmeal.

We had oatmeal,cream of wheat, cocoa wheat(my favorite), a farina(I think it was Ralstons ,corn flakes or shredded wheat which we poured hot water on to soften then added the milk and sometimes sliced bananas

It would be nice to see how you make your cream of wheat! Everybody makes it different I like a thicker cream of wheat but then again some people like a lighter creamy watery type of cream of wheat how do you make yours?

Im not a Butterscotch fan but love oatmeal. I got a wonderful brown sugar oatmeal from Moss Family Tv on youtube, and its yummy too.

Parents were off to work so we got ourselves breakfast then off to school. Sometimes we would sneak some coffee left in the percolator and have it with toast!!😆 Then got told the coffee would stunt our growth😅

How could you be wrong with butterscotch?!!? Did you ever eat Cream of Rice? I preferred Cream of Wheat and Cream of Rice growing up. Neither of my parents made breakfast; except, occasionally on a weekend morning. But, when we were at Grandma's we always got a hot, homemade breakfast of some sort.

No and No, you have to put butter in. You can not eat oatmeal without butter. I use a little less milk because i like it thicker. Why do you put the eggs in? I guess i missed that point. Ive never used eggs.😊
