Target here in Australia is nothing compared to the US Target. We don't have any brand names like Studio McGee, I don't think we have that brand here, plus all of their home furniture is d.i.y, no good for me!! Plus they don't display the majority of the furniture pieces. I look forward to seeing your videos each week Nick. Xx

@@minibeach Mid-century: The real thing in the 50s and early 60s were easy chairs and sofas covered in itchy wool. Ugh. And those legs that are slanted out. But what I hate most about the mid-century look is that it is not "cozy." I'm German and my house needs to be "gemuetlich" ("cozy" is the closest I can get in English). I want to feel a tug in my tummy when I come home -- my house welcoming me. I don't get that from mid-century furniture at all.

With keeping an eye on product reviews, I have found that there are lots of people out there that struggle with assembly. It is not easy for them even in the best instances, so if the directions are poor or the assembly takes some know-how, they may give a bad review. I am great at assembly and find that if the reviews relate to assembly problems I give it a shot anyway if other people say it is very good and sure enough, I have no problem.

I *promise* this is my last comment(for now, anyway). I want to express my appreciation of your vids. The detailed time stamps are terrific, as are the links to items. You take a lot of trouble over that, but it really does encourage your viewers to stay…and return. I watch quite a few interior dec and DIY channels and nobody else makes that effort. I also like that you say *why* certain items aren’t to your taste, and don’t just go,”Oh erk, it’s awful!” The same for the “this not that” vids. The respect you give to other’s tastes is also unusual, I think. And, lastly, your stage presence is great. Great video! I love how most of the comparisons were close to each other in price-the only real miss for me was the rattan armchair ($250) vs. the dish chair ($25). If a $250 chair is within someone's price range, they're probably not also considering one that's ten times cheaper, right? I'd love to see you continue this series using items priced similarly to each other, and to call out those prices like you did with the console tables in this video. Bonus points if both items are fairly cheap (if someone is sincerely considering the dish chair, what should they buy instead on that budget?) 😊

Love this!! We don’t have Target in the UK but I like to see what you like, contrasted with the stinkers. It gives me some reinforcement of design principles & what I could incorporate into my own home. So thank you!

You make an excellent point about Target stock selections. The closer you are to their main offices or a larger urban area, the better the selection, and vice versa. Most retailers follow a grading system for store locations based on population and level of business, but wise retailers don't let outlying locations get degraded to the point that shelves are empty, selections sparse, or deliveries few and far between. Excellent video as always! I'd always rather hear your honest opinion about things than a youtuber pushing the products of the company sponsoring the video.

Hey Nick - can we get a “buy this, not that” for structube and simons for your Canadian viewers? Sometimes I feel like their prices are too good to be true.

I kinda liked Structure as well. I'm in the US but when I was visiting Montreal it caught my eye.
@natatatt

My experience with Structube is it's good for accent pieces, like chairs, but the quality isn't good enough for high traffic furniture like couches. Love Simons for fun décor pieces.
@sparklie962
@sparklie962 3 года назад
@@natatatt Agreed with the Structube on accessories. My final straw was finding at Structube a clone of a cute little vase that I'd bought at West Elm for more than double. Both made in India so I feel like it really was apples & apples. Also agree the big ticket items don't seem nearly as well made and I would save my $$ for better quality big/high traffic pieces.

@@Zeeeeeeeex thanks for the response. The price reflects the quality then. I purchased a light fixture for a friend who lives in Montreal because they really needed it. I just ordered it by phone and they picked it up. I hope it held up ok.😟

Nick I feel the SAME WAY about animal print, always have. In high school, my BFF had his bedding with Ralph Lauren lepard print sheets and comforter with a faux zebra skin rug. To this day he is still way into it, but it suits him and it actually works! Trust and believe though, I do tease him whenever I go over: "It's so nice to go on safari and still be in LA!!" lol

I truly like you. I grew up in the 1970's and most of the homes were by no means as chic as anything I see here. It was all bright burnt orange, avocado green or a mustard gold/yellow. In everything. Appliances, carpets, curtains. Yes, my Mom did have some fabulous clocks and lamps. My favorite in the era was the art deco style my grandma had. Now Grandma had a beautiful minimalist style. My other grandparents had a seriously vintage farmhouse out in Michigan with all vintage furniture. Beds with metal frames, original quilts on everything, hard wood floors with massive planks- like possibly a foot wide, vintage crocks, original washing machine. No plumbing! On one of our visits my Dad finally added plumbing to the house since Grandma had to carry water into the house as she aged. She had a houseful of real antiques. Sadly, a thief came to her home when she was severely elderly and blind and stole all the antiques from the house. We were living at the other end of the nation. So I started collecting from 2nd hand stores, garage sales and such. I have some great pieces but I'm watching your channel because honestly, it needs a bit of an update but I don't want to part with the true antiques I've collected.

While it's not my taste, the acrylic bookshelf seems much easier to clean than the rattan/cane corner bookshelf. I cannot even think of how to clean the latter, except with a Swiffer dust rag and a vacuum cleaner. Whereas the acrylic bookshelf can probably be cleaned easily with Windex.
@PaulSpades
@PaulSpades Год назад
That's true, but rattan that's not dusty with scratches and that creaks at night is not authentic :D while translucent shiny materials will show dust the next second after you've cleaned them. Acrilic will summon dust from your neighbour's house after you clean it, it doesn't even matter how squeaky clean you keep your own. I know because i'm typing this on a massive acrilic desk I've lived with for the last 8 years.

I have the Portola Hills Caned Console and can attest that it did take quite a long time to assemble BUT it is incredibly solid and sturdy - not a bit of wobble, so the three hours it took me (alone) to assemble was a small price to pay (other than the actual price of course, ha).

That acrylic bookshelf would be a nightmare. Never mind the dust, that stuff scratches if you look at it. I like the look of cane - until it gets snagged and/or starts to come apart, which it inevitably does. Then it looks terrible.
