Please don't buy these vehicles until at least 2025, you will save yourself a lot of headache. It's NOT just the engine failures that people are complaining about, the quality has dropped dramatically on newer Toyotas compared to the older models we are used to.

It threw a check engine that cleared after a restart twice, but I didn’t really think anything about it - because everything else annoyed me so bad. Twice to the dealership for squealing brakes was enough. Traded it one month before all of this mess about engines came to light. Admittedly, I'm a Toyota fan, but I wouldn't say that their kaizen methodology and manufacturing methods are "overhyped" (I have seen plenty Toyotas and Lexus models with over 300k+ miles without any mechanical issues, and we've seen them fix issues on new engines before), but I would consider the context of CAFE emissions regulations to play a factor in why they're drastically changing so many reliable platforms to hybrids and turbo chargers. Also, it should be noted that quality control in the entire auto industry overall has gone down the past decade (way more plastic components, disrupted supply chains, and the cost of materials, such as precious minerals, has gone up), and more manufacturers have implemented an unnecessary amount of ECUs post 2013. The entire auto industry itself is looking pretty bleak, especially with dealerships price gouging vehicles. To Toyota's credit, at least they're trying to rectify the issues of the 2022-2024 vehicles, but I would undoubtedly steer clear of their new platforms (or from any other auto manufacturer) until these issues are resolved and there's more evidence to suggest it won't be a detriment. I'm definitely not happy that they've axed their entire NA V8 platform, even if it would cost them some of their profits.

It’s an engineering issue that they will never admit because they somehow think we are going to buy the engine debris theory. The cast Iron bearing caps are the issue and here is why. Aluminum and cast iron expand and contract at different rates. The bottom portion of the main bearing caps and the torque specifications of the bolts that hold them in place are off. The Aluminum expansion is greater than the cast iron allowing normal metal shavings during engine break in period to get into the main bearing. It’s engineering one on one. They messed up thinking that cast iron would somehow prevent main bearing damage under extreme pressure. Torque specifications differ between aluminum and cast iron. They gambled at lost.. Go woke go broke. They could have kept the V8 and made it more fuel efficient, but they wanted to be clever and claim all this greatness with a V6. If the V6 was so great they would be using it in trophy trucks. V8 all day long is the better more reliable platform… the quality of the turbos in the V6 will not reach the mileage of the natural aspirated V8. Truck limited by to many variables that can fail is an ESG conformity rather than a customer first business model. Sorry Toyota is not on the right track.

Friend of my sister just bought a 2024 Tundra at $7,500 off MSRP.....he isn't an idiot but didn't know about any of the recall/ engine failure issues and the dealer didn't mention any of it to him. I DID tell him and he said to me...."thats crazy, its a Toyota, my last Corolla went 16 years and 260K miles with only regular maintenance." He flat out denied it and still didn't believe me when I showed him articles and RU-vid videos. He insists its "hype" and way overblown. Since he bought the truck in May it has been to the dealer twice for the window gap/ wind noise issue that you talked about here and leaking rear diff. They told him at a dealer here in Denver that the diff wasn't leaking and what he was seeing was oil that was left on the diff/ seal area during manufacture. There are oil drips on his garage floor. This has almost caused a rift between us friendship wise and he still feels that all of this is mostly hyped up about a few isolated failures. We will see how his 2024 holds up.

However, If this is a design flaw, I doubt they will ever fix it. Their 4.6 and 5.7 V8 engines, which are always quoted as “bulletproof”, also have fatal, inevitable flaws such as cam tower leaks and coolant valley leaks, both of which require complete engine tear down to fix (just Google these terms to see them to believe). Just wanted to say that I am so happy you are making these videos about the V35A engine failures. It’s ironic, but “The Car Care Nut” did a video posted 5 months ago about the best and worst Toyota engines. About half way thru the video, he mentions the V35A concerning turbo issues as well as he actually states that there is contamination from the engine factory, how did he know that? Recall just came out end of May, 3 weeks ago. Toyota has known this was the issue or he would not have been able to say that comment. Im pretty sure he has a Toyota insider that leaked that to him. Anyway, this engine failure is a serious issue and consumer safety should be top priority, not designing, manufacturing, and selling new vehicles. They clearly stated that there was an issue in their manufacturing procedure that has the potential for catastrophic engine failure. All Tundras effected should be parked and Toyota needs to provide transportation vehicles to these customers. NATSA should have more power to enforce these manufacturers to fix these problems. Chevy Volt was another joke of a recall. These vehicles could explode without warning, telling customers to park it outside in case it went up in smoke. That’s total BS. Different problem, but same issue concerning the lack of safety for the consumer. Guess it is to be expected, look how long it took to get seat belts in cars. We need another Ralph Nader to step up and get the government to do something about the safety recalls. I guess Toyota expects their customers to park these vehicles and go rent a vehicle. I don’t really care if it cost Toyota 3-5 billion to fix this issue. They created it, so they need to fix it. Keep in mind, all of us that bought back in 2022 and 2023 got hit with MSRP at a minimum, some were asking $20K above MSRP. BTW, one dealership tried that one on me, never step foot on their property again. Hope that dealership goes bankrupt for the way they treated potential customers.

My truck has been to a mechanic 5 times! In 24 years! Love my 2000 Tahoe with 63k original miles. Paid cash when I bought it. Gonna keep it.

OMG! I knew it! Thanks god I was smart enough to buy one of those last 2021 V8 Tundras at the end of 2021. Enjoying it every day and will keep it till it fall apart, maybe in 30 yrs. Never needed this fancy stuff they put in the vehicles these days. Reliability, comfort, and resale value are the most important things a vehicle needs to have.

Because all and I mean all trucks on the U.S market ar over priced by 10,000 USD or more right now. Please unless you need a new truck don't buy one. As for Toyota trucks they have lost my business even if they drop their price.

Traded my 2024 1794 TRD last week. It’s been a disaster since day one. Bought it new in October 2023 it has 3800 miles on it now Broken drivers seat from day one , not the plastic, the adjustments and memory. Dealer response “ Toyota does not have a fix”. Wind noise on drivers side, rear door not closing properly, hood latch too tight pops when you hit the interior switch, ill fitting exterior trim gaps and loose, too much cheap plastic, front grill loose and rubber gasket does not fit properly, at highway speed the hood flexeslike it’s too thin, audio system is pathetic very under powered and sub woofer rattles. This is my 4th Toyota and I was a fan, no more. They should be embarrassed. Oh, I almost forgot the engine recall which I’m sure will catch up to the 2024’s. I will be formally contacting Toyota I feel like I was duped. I did contact Toyota twice and they assured me the dealer would follow up, that never happened. My service advisor had no answers and when I pointed out some of the defects her answer was “that’s the way they are these days “!

I feel you. Curious what you traded for? I am in the same position as you. I also forgot to mention to the dealer about the hood vibrating at freeway speeds. I felt my 8 or so items was enough. None if which they fixed!

@@agentzero2316 I traded for an F150 King Ranch I’ve had very good experiences with Ford over the years. They seem to have the engine dialed in and truthfully it drives and feels way better than the Tundra did. Not to mention all the things that the Tundra didn’t have, I’ll list a few. Split tailgate, AWD mode, kick ass B&O audio system, 36 gallon gas tank, fit and finish superb, locking under rear seat storage, heads up display, metal bumpers and most importantly everything works as you would expect. BTW I will be contacting Toyota for reimbursement of my loss, I feel like I was scammed. I’ve owned 4 Toyotas didn’t think I had to do research before purchasing the Tundra, lesson learned.

@@ronkaye1957 Good choice! I miss my 2016 F150 and wanted to buy another one but was afraid of the new 10-speed some complain about. Ford does Sooo many things right! Enjoy your new truck and thanks for your reply.

I dodged a bullet on this one. I was very close to buying a Tundra 4 months ago, but I went with the f150 5.0 / 3.73. Put an OZ tune on it and really love how it drives. Best iteration of the Coyote V8

This is an awesome video, I have a Nissan and it's been solid! I'm sure Toyota has tested the new engines and it is a manufacturing problem, not a basic design problem. I just can't see them releasing these new engines without them passing a complete durability test program. You pointed out that they have more than just engine problems, transmissions, differentials, trim etc! They had so many years between models to perfect this new design, what happened? Toyota was reputation was built on slow gradual changes over many years, testing everything before it was sold. They better get some really talented people in engineering, quality and the manufacturing departments to replace the people who helped make this mess!

I think they Toyota will turn it around. Funny thing is, they are still selling the crap out of these Tundras. I see people in the Facebook groups and forums every day saying "I don't care about the recall, bought it anyway". Crazy town.

I was sort of contemplating replacing my 2020 Tundra. But too many red lights were coming up. Have a couple friends that have new 2023 Tundras. Both really like them. But after all this I’ve got that idea totally out of my head. My sister and brother-in-law we looking for a new Lexus SUV I told them avoid any new turbo powered Lexus. Gave them cold feet as well. This has got to be really hurting Toyotas sales. Mike Sweers the head engineer for the tundra that’s now been promoted??? I would think he would be somewhat to blame? I found him to be a bit flackey when I was following the development and release of the new tundra. If I were Toyota I’d be looking at getting different engineers not promoting them….

I don’t think he had anything to do with the engine design or manufacturing, but maybe the direction on what customers want.

Major props to Toyota if they voluntarily replace all the engines, but I suspect they will not do that. When you consider this engine is used in 4 of their trucks, this is a huge blow to Toyota’s truck lineup.

You can thank your government for the crazy changes in modern gasoline engines. Auto makers are forced by strict standards to improve upon efficiency with deadlines. This is what you get
