for anyone who is curious, shimanos 7'2 MH glass rod is an absolutely incredible smaller crank rod probably down to about 7ft, It can also double as probably the best chatterbait rod you have every used. What I do is use 30-40lb braid and tie on a Fluro leader as needed for the application. it's my favorite combo to use paired with a HG dc reel and you will never want to put it down.

I think my local bass have spawning on their minds; caught a chunky 4-something at the Local Pond earlier today on a Baby Mad Paca creature bait. It was quite a good fight on a 6-pound ML spinner. Great video as always. Love the mojo cranking rod. I use the 7 foot most often but I use the 7'4" for my 5 and 6xds and it doubles as my carolina rig rod. Got to find multiple uses as a co-angler in a tournament. Also question have you guys played with the Strike King Hybrid Hunter line yet?

I got the Davies Tatula Elite Cranking rod in MH and it’s been great for cranking, bladed jigs, even some smaller swim baits. Because of the bend in it pretty much any treble hook bait I throw I throw on it.

Great advice as always I just bought the st croix MH glass crank bait rod and will let you know how I do. I have several of the square bills and lipless crankbaits you recommended but here in South Florida I have actually had more success with the YoZuri rattling vibe in baby bass and a Berkeley square bill in bluegill color 😉

Great video guys and definitely narrowed down quite a bit from your other buyer's guide videos. Being from Ontario Canada, even the "budget" rods you talk about, due to the foreign exchange rate become "high end priced" rods by the time they are in our favourite tackle stores. Even on sale they are still over $150 and up compared to the U.S.. So with that said, I take everything you guys discuss and look for the sales on smaller companies that have made great entries into technic specific rods and that for me is 13 Fishing. I picked up 2 Fate Black Cranking rods in medium and medium/heavy last year and they have been absolutely what you guys go over at a much lower price point that I can afford. They are hybrid glass/composite rods so you get the light weight feel of graphite yet the strength of the glass and "moderate" flex of glass without the weight and dull feel. For more feel and sensitivity for my other technic specific rods for texas rigs, chatterbaits, flipping, jerkbaits, or on the finesse side I went with 13 Fishing Omen's, the discontinued Muse, and Fate Black spinning rods and they have been absolutely amazing! Thank you for breaking things down as it really helped me narrow down what I could pick up here in Ontario without breaking the bank on the big name JDM rods. HAHA

I like a really whippy rod for cranking. I have a 7'11" Mod-Fast for my big cranks but I feel like it's to stiff. I don't feel the thump like I do with my squarebill and medium diving crankbait rods. I need to get me a glass rod for my big cranks and maybe use my current Mod-Fast for A-Rig. What do you guys think? Is a 1/2-2oz rating big enough for an A-Rig?

If you get a chance to look at several different lipless, drop them all in a clear bowl filled with water. You'll see that the super spot when it hits bottom...stands up! All the others fall over. So it's the best if you're working it slow.

G Loomis cbr+ shimano dc Highly recommend for throwing cranks. Megabass deep x/rapala DTs have been my go-to. As far as squarebills; M/T have you guys ever tried the rapala bx brat? I've had quite a bit of success with them

You guys should look at the St. Croix Legend Class series of rods sometime. More expensive than the Mojo Bass Glass, but a larger variety of rod lengths, and rated up to 1&3/8 oz. baits.

iRod Crank launcher will throw them a mile. It's not glass, but that works even better for me. I just set the drag extra soft to the point that I have to feather the spool with my thumb when I set the hook. And when you "pause" after the "burn", the rod doesn't have to unload as much so it doesn't drag the bait forward as much.

What about the large cranks if I don’t want to invest $250 on the Dobyn’s Champion you guys recommend, how is the Lew’s 10XD crank rod? Also, is it very similar in action to the Dobyns Fury 795 Swimbait I just purchased? If they are nearly identical, I will skip out on the crank rod and go for the larger Shimano 7’8” swimbait that is more like the Dobyns 805 swimbait. Only drawback on the dt series is the lip is glued onto the wood body so if you compromise the body on a cast you can lose fish

I do it sometimes when I like to double it up as a chatterbait rod you can definitely do it with a 7’2 to 7’4 medium heavy for mid cranks and square bills and chatterbaits works really well

Braid to leader is perfect for speed cranking. I use it all the time, it WORKS. Thin diameter line like 15-20lb Sufix 832 or power pro slick with a 12lb or 14lb leader...the thin line has less water resistance, and the zero stretch makes the "pause" work. otherwise straight fluoro/mono has too much stretch so when you "pause" the bait doesn't actually stop moving.

@Sean Braid also has no bounce back factor into it. Snatching it out of grass will for sure work but if that little delay is what the fish are triggered on (ripping grass with a crankbait/chatterbait) you'll be pulling the bait right out of the strike zone most of the time. I fish around alot of wood so I tend to stay away from braid on all cranking because the braid will just dig in and start a nasty fryed section.

Some crankbaot rods do better not transferring the tourqe to your hands , wrist and forearms during the retrieve. . Daiwa made one in the 90s that was superb at this.

Well Tim you guys are talking about the reels for cranking but you aren’t telling us what gear ratio you are using I usually use 5 to 1 ratio for deep cranking is that what you are using?
