A lot of boat owners are doing their own boat hull maintenance and cleaning. We at Gator Gill help provide safe and cost effective ways to help boat owners stay under water and complete their tasks. Knowing wither to use a zinc or magnesium based anode is also key too a properly maintained vessel. Your video is very informative thank you.
1. So what anode does one put on an aluminium hull in salt water? 2. Can Aluminum anode be used on aluminum hull? 3. I have some galvanized wire mesh fish traps, can i use aluminium foil as an anode?
Most aluminum anodes, such as those from Martyr, are composed of a different alloy than what's used in the construction of aluminum boats. This allows them to be effective for use with aluminum boats in brackish water and salt water. Aluminum foil could, in theory, be used as an anode with different metals. However, we are unable to provide any estimates on the effectiveness or longevity of it for your application. We recommend contacting us at 1-800-BOATING (262-8464) or visiting your area West Marine store location to discuss the best anodes for you.
The only anode material that works in more than one water type is Aluminium, which works in both salt and brackish water. Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!
