This is the first bike I've owned and everything that people say they don't like doesn't bother me at all. I like the riding position. Not hunched over too much but i can really lean into turns and have fun. The controls I could give a shit about. The foot rest on the exhaust doesn't feel uncomfortable. I've got about 4500 miles on mine and used it regularly to commute to work 50 miles. Comfy the whole way.

That bike was made in Bawal, India. The Street 500 and 750's are made there in a knockdown plant and the bikes targeted to the American Market are assembled in Kansas City. It's my understanding that the motors are made here, or at least some of the motor parts. Other Harley models are made all over the world. Pistons from Austria, Milwaukee 8 motor designed by Porsche and HD, wheels from australia, wiring harnesses from Mexico, Japan and China. Brakes were coming from Brembo of Italy, but now from China. Instrumentation from China. Other parts from who knows? At least with your Street, you know where most of it came from. Back in the day, Harley carried a line of dirt bikes from Italy. They paid to put their name on them. However, the factory in India is HD owned.

W Tom lol wtf all I am reading is bullshit. 4 plants, Milwaukee, Tomahawk, York, KC. Until 2018 twin cam was made in Milwaukee and distributed to York to build touring models and softail. Twin cams were also sent to KC to build dyna, KC also made the revolution and evolution power plants and also built vrod and sportster. Tomahawk, originally the tomahawk boat plant made plastic and fiberglass parts. Harley-Davidson outsources to vendors in other countries, my speedo and tach said made in Switzerland and the forks are made by showa and brakes by brembo. Lincoln Industries is their chrome vendor in Lincoln Nebraska and Tenneco in Seward produces the mufflers. Get your shit straight.
@wtom1420
@wtom1420 6 лет назад
You are correct with some of that. Showa of Japan has been supplying the suspension for Harley for over 30 years. The twin cam pistons came from Austria. Swiss instrumentation is new to me, as nearly all of it now comes from China and other countries in southeast Asia. A CVO owner was horrified to find "made in China" stickers on his brakes. He thought they were supplied by Brembo of Italy. Not so. HD isn't allowed to say: "American Made, or Made in USA". Approximately 70% of the parts that make up some models of HD are from offshore or Mexico. HD is only allowed to say: "Assembled in USA". And.....the Street models are indeed made in India. Do some research. Again, some of the engine parts are made in the USA, but the Harley plant in India makes most of the bikes as a "kit" to be assembled in the target market. Not only has this been confirmed by HD sales staff but also by several mechanics who have worked for HD. I'm not an HD hater, and in fact their global assemblage of parts has resulted in better products. Their bikes don't seem to leak oil like they used to, and they hold up far better than ever before. I was left on the side of the road several times with the two Harleys I had over the years. I'd have a lot more confidence in one of the newer bikes. I rode a new Road King, Road Glide and Heritage Classic. I was very impressed with the Milwaukee 8 107. Showa has made great improvements to the suspension and the handling was pretty good. Still, they're heavy and completely overpriced. My dealer was going to give me a great deal on that Road King at only $23K. Seriously? No wonder HD is in financial distress. They've even admitted looking to relocate their business elsewhere as American Labor costs are too high as well as the cost of doing business with taxes and tariffs. For the past several years, their sales have been disappointing at less than 91K units. Their sales are also artificially inflated by counting orders from dealers as "sales". So when you go to the dealer and see a hundred or so bikes on the showroom floor, they count those in sales figures even though they haven't sold them. All motorcycle companies have seen a sharp decline in sales, especially in large displacement bikes. The Milennial generation isn't all that interested in motorcycles, but more interested in scooters. Those that ride motorcycles tend to ride Sport Bikes. Older riders such as myself enjoy bigger motorcycles, but more and more are moving to Adventure bikes. Where's Harley's Adventure Bike? Others ride traditional Cruisers and Touring bikes. The BMW 1600 bagger seem to be selling really well, and the new gold wing has generated extreme interest. There are many choices for a smaller market, and Harley is doing the right thing finally by trying to become competitive with models like the Street 750, and the only way is to have them made by others. Now if they'd get the pricing down to earth on the other models.

My two Hondas were made in Ohio, and can actually claim "Made in USA". My Yamaha was completely made in Japan.

I traded my 2017 street rod 750 back in and bought a 2017 Heritage Classic. After 6 months, it still gave me leg or hip cramps. I could not get used to the peg position. I gave it a chance because I liked it, but the Heritage Classic is crazy comfortable and more stable on the road. But way more money, I know.

I have a 2018 already have 7,200miles I took the baffle out tuned it did screaming eagle plugs for looks I love it my biggest advise is new tires with a longer side wall the bike leans very easily I wrecked it at 50mph leaning too far shattered my clavicle had a plate and screws put in...get different tires if you’re a leaner if not you’ll regret it

Although it’s not a conventional Harley (which is the whole point), I really like the way it looks; and although they may not admit it, I know a lot of “conventional Harley guys” actually like it too. Appearance-wise, the one flaw (and its a huge one), is the that massive exhaust. It’s so disproportionate to the rest of the bike. That aside, the upside down forks, dual front disks, and led lighting are usually features Harley reserves for its higher end models, which makes the Street Rod even more attractive.

I finally pulled the trigger on this one.. price for a brand new 2017 34 miles on it. They sold me for $4999. I like the sewing machine sound, i like the way it turns on the curve but im still nervous because it leans too much lol! The charcoal color. Harley told me that i should be fine with windex and dont use car stuff. I’m 6flat and just got used to ergonomics, im always reminding myself when cruising, the right foot should go to the metal protector to rest. No need for ABS on this thing since the god damn dual front brakes is amazing. All in all, i love the bike and its a looker!

Just took delivery of a brand new 2019 Street Rod. Special order with ABS 795$ and security system with siren 520$. Total 11,742$. Question for anyone who owns and rides one. Dose your exhaust start glowing cherry red at both headers. Only after a cold start within 1 minute and forty seven seconds. Anyone's Street Rod do this ????.

I test rode the bike. It rides very nicely but I hated the right foot positioning. The rubber pad on the exhaust is uncomfortable and it doesn't seem like it'll keep my sole from melting from the heat

I love my 2017 Street 750. I don't give a shit what all the haters think or say. It's a great bike, not ridiculously expensive Harley, agile and fun. That said, I did do a few modifications. Two Brothers racing exhaust, Vance and Hines FP3 tuner, Mustang seat, mirror extensions, front mini boards.

msmith5150 how tall are you? I test rode the bike, and absolutely loved the engine. I really wanted to like the bike, But with the low seat height and foot peg position, and my 34 inch inseam, it was downright painful to ride, even for just the 5 minutes or so that I was on it. Not sure what they were thinking with the ergonomics on this thing.

Josh Davis I'm 6' 2" with a 36" inseam. I do admit I feel too tall for the bike, sometimes it is uncomfortable to ride. Some of the parts I've changed out on it have made it more comfortable.

Simply put, a Harley is the type of bike which is equivalent to that one girl from your high school. You've been told by many that she's flawed and her personality is the kind that you've always disliked in general because you know that there is no possibility of any sort of compatibility with her but... But then you have this epiphany that you are just thinking about her all the time and that you can't even get her out of your head. Every time when she passes by and when you see her, you feel this overwhelming sense of joy and other emotions that you can't even describe, but you sure have a smile on your face and then even before you realize, you are already in love with her. And then you say to yourself, "she might not be perfect but I'll do everything that I can to make it perfect and I'm gonna make her mine forever!"

I wanted that too, but since it is classified as a sport bike rather than a standard (like the z900), The insurance goes from $500/year to $2,000/year. Seriously, go get some quotes and you will see what I mean. Not a big deal if you want to buy it outright, but financing requires full coverage, which is unbelievably high for sport bikes.

This is why harley davidson might not survive the next 20 years. "You need a *real* bike" "That's not a real harley davidson" "You need a ____ "etc... gtfo with that attitude. Harleys are big heavy cruisers, which is getting harder to sell these days, but they also have the problem of their own customers putting up a barrier to entry on potential new customers. I like this street rod because it is precisely NOT a stereotypical HD. They need to take on the standard bike and even the sport bike concept if they are going to compete with imports. Hell, even their own customers are trading in the big heavy cruiser for adventure bikes like the BMW gs1200 and the Triumph Tiger. They arent pulling in new customers with their cruisers, and when the loyal HD boys die off, they will have nothing to offer new riders.
@ToastyClam
@ToastyClam 5 лет назад
883 is less than a beginner bike. It’s the bike you test ride thinking it will be enough. And then you realize it’s a slow fuckin hunk of metal. And you get the iron 1200 instead
@geraldscott9446
@geraldscott9446 6 лет назад
If you want an FZ-07, get an FZ-07. It's MUCH higher quality, and looks 10 times better. If you want a Harley, get an 883 Sportster, and put an aftermarket exhaust on it. This thing is a piece of Indian made crap. It is NOT a Harley Davidson. They just put their name on it. I suspect they will dump it soon before it destroys their reputation. Harley Davidson makes v-twin cruisers and touring bikes, the best in the world. And that is what they need to keep doing.

Dang bro, I love the honest assessment of this ummm thing... My old 'Angels' buddy's would try to beat me or kill me for sayin anything bad about the Harley brand, but guess what they never could keep up - so they rode with me behind me- not me riding with them... I must ask ; was the gas tank bolted down ? It looks like it was set on top to see if it fit, but 'it don't' ! That factory muffler looks hugely ? stupid and maybe besides the touchy brakes another reason to go down... Yeah not known for cornering - I saw a dude kill himself due to that.. I take that same easy 55 mph corner @ 80 on my Triumph- ho hum. Another review - guy bought a 6 month old 'V-rod' - he was already the 2nd owner, and he hated the position, had no low end, and funky gear-ratio - very much a pain in the ass in town. He sold it after a month and made $1000 - so 3 rd owner in 7 months !?? My advice, and that is after being addicted to bikes since my first ride age 5 - on an old Harley 74 - ha 55 yrs ago... Go test ride a Triumph Speedtriple - even a 10 yr old 1050 - holy momma wheel stander - fn torque and handling that can get you out of all that trouble the ? 130 hp throws at you.... If you want real torque - get a Triumph Rocket lll - 2300 cc of monster torque, and if need even more turbo that bitch - and it ill rip your hands off the bars in any gear. When I told an old Hells Angel bud that my Triumph was getting out of 3rd at 130, he got real quiet and just rolled his eyes - sorry to bust an ego , ha ha but he had to say 'Well Harley is the best ' ..... nope it is just image and look at me ! * haters if you read this far, too bad you can't keep up with me ! But I'd rather buy ya a beer than scrap about what is better - it's all good , and ride safe- not drunk !

I have several bikes at the moment, one being a Honda Shadow Spirit, it is also a 750 and looks cooler, sounds more badass, and, since I have already beat an 883, would definitely beat that POS that you thought was going to be a great bike simply because of it's name. When will people wake up and realize that Harley's are just way over priced pieces of shit? Sorry for you, dude.

Horrible riding position, I have no idea what Harley was thinking. A super sport is more comfortable. It's a shame too, it is a good looking bike and a nice idea at least, a HD cafe bike. The boot melting pipe is also stupid, how about actually routing the damn thing so it doesn't melt your boot, like literally everyone else that makes bikes.

This is a bike only a NOOB would buy. HD posers without loud pipes are not clued in yet. HD is about how loud your pipes are and nothing else... except maybe how scruffy you can look with your (invisible to cars) black on black bike and leather gear. Roadkill fodder. At least this bike has good brakes. You won't find that on the old Harleys.

I learned it on my own and survived, without ever buying HD. I hope you figure out what's important on your own and don't listen to an old fool like me. Good luck kid. I finally managed to kick tobacco @ 40. Don't start is my advice. BTW, I get your sarcasm 'cuz that was what my post is.

Neal -- I'm glad you get what you need (and then some) from your HD dealer. The dealer can make or break the biking experience, especially for someone new to the lifestyle. It's not that important to me. I've been riding for over 50 years and do most of my own work on my bike. There are times when I've chosen what bike I'm going to buy (usually a used bike) by what dealers were convenient (local) and competent. With me the problem with HD (especially back in the day) is that the bikes handled and stopped and behaved more like tractors than a sporting and fun machine. I've ridden three Harleys. All of them scraped hard metal parts in modest turns and were a handful at slow speeds and couldn't stop with any feeling of urgency. Then there's the price and reliability issues. That's why I'll never own one. It's a cult you either love or you recognize as a strange cult of blind unquestioning followers that you don't understand and don't want to be a part of. I have friends who ride HD. I don't understand it but they are still my friends. There are a lot of good bikes out there these days. Even Triumph is making excellent bikes. Despite their old time reputation for electrical problems and oil leaks they are now up at the top in finish, performance and reliability. I'd much rather have a new Street Triple than any Harley. When a car pulls out in front of me I want to have a good chance to weave or stop and avoid contact. That's one of the most important qualities that I look for in a bike. Survival capability. My flesh has met the road a few times. I want my bike to help me avoid that... not to just make me feel badass or cool in my black on black invisibility cloak.
