This is a complete guide to purchasing a SIM card in Turkey with a review of mobile network prices, the mobile operators in Turkey and how to buy a SIM card at Istanbul airport.
I will look at the network coverage of Turkcell, Turk Telecom and Vodafone Turkey and run speed tests on the data download and upload speeds using the Speedtest by Ookla.
I will also look at what it is like roaming in Turkey using a Vodafone UK SIM and how it differs from buying a local SIM.

We are touring Istanbul and antaliya; a total of 7 nights. We want the cheapest package out of the three. Which SIM do you suggest?

Hi Rizwan. One of the cheapest is from Turk Telecom. A 7-day SIM has 10Gb of internet, 250 local minutes and 220 TL (£5.46, $US 6.80). SIM card fees may also be added to this. Have a look at www.turktelekom.com.tr/en/prepaid-tourist-sim-turkey

Hi Rizwan, thank you for this info. If I need to buy a sim card, will I be required to provide ID and passport. It is such a hassle in some countries

Vodafone Türkiye genel olarak sorunlu bir şebekeye sahiptir. 3G şebekesinde cihazın şarjını hızla tüketir. 4.5G şebekesi ise çok yavaştır. Sebebi ise Türkiye’de Vodafone’a ait çok az fiber altyapı bulunmasıdır.
