Hey there. I can give you my 2 cents but you might want change back. I have been running case backhoes for close to 35 years. Started with the D then the E, to the K, L, M, now I'm getting ready to buy 2019 N series. They have had there up's and downs though the years, But I can say for your price range if you can get a four wheel drive most difinatly do. IMO the case 580 E model and the 580 L model was probably there best machines as far as bullet proof. I never had to work on them. clean air, clean oil. and they are good to go. If you can find one get one with a 4-1 front loader bucket you may not understand it now, but once you use one you will never go without one. an added feature I personally would never do with out is a thumb for the backhoe, to me running a backhoe without a thumb is like using your hand without your thumb Priceless. I'm actually looking for one of these machines for my son in law. My backhoe is my dozer and excavator all in one. You pull any stump with this machine, build any road build any pond. P.S I do not work for case. For you and 100 acres to work I would go with nothing less than a 580 case, about 75 horse power. and can move around your land very nice. I use my hoe for plowing snow also I have chains for it. with 4x4 and chains its pretty unstoppable. If you want more info.... believe me I have lots of stories,HA HA. give me a stout out. I would be glad to help.
Great info, thank you for taking the time. Been eyeing this guy right here: maine.craigslist.org/hvo/d/windham-case-580-super-backhoe-loader/6933151129.html but I didn't realize just how expensive transport is. For a rural area, it almost makes sense to be patient and hold out for a clean machine and possible slightly overpay... rather than pay $2k to get the damn thing trailered in from a bigger city with more inventory. I hear you on the thumb, I don't think any machine will work well for me without it.
I've been looking for a backhoe for quite a while I know I'm going to get a Case 580. I'm about 15-20k price range. Saw a few but just missed out on them there's one from an old man I bought a trailer from that I was thinking about offering 10K on. he says he has to put about 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid every time he goes to use it though. quite a few of the cylinders will need to be repacked and hoses replaced, not sure about the condition on the pens they looked okay. I got a guy that can do it fairly cheap, but I'm not sure how much that will all be. I was initially going to offer like 8 but I decided I wanted to spend 15 to 18 to get one that wasn't all leaking as much, but it's been about a year and I'm starting to reconsider any input?
@@jonathangrames1906 Hey man There is a lot to say on this subject. Im a case backhoe guy. If you want I can look you up on fB and message you so we don't plug this page all up
I have been around case alot! Have run 580c, 580e, 580k,580L and 580M I now run a 580L it has almost 12000 hrs on the original engine and trans but the rear hoe has been rebuilt. I use it almost everyday at work digging pipes and footers etc and it uses little to no motor oil still and starts great still. The case 580 M machines are much faster than the older 580 series. I have run John Deere 410g machines and really like them also! No It sure about cat have not dug enough with one to give a opinion I know my neighbor uses only cat to install septic tanks now for years. So good luck. and use almost everyday.
Ive used multiple machines from sunbelt mostly jcbs. Always got the job done but they are very prone to sticks and logs to peirce the fiberglass hood. Ect. Had one go through the grill plastic end tank on radiator and chewed every fan blade off. Some of the cats and johndeeres have steel hoods and more protection up front. John deeres will always have parts. Period. Ive had many issues with masseys and cases in my area. Central fl. I would recommend johndeere pre-emission
I have an 89 JCB 1400 b. 4x4, turbo, extendahoe. I’ve owned it for 23 years. It had a packer on the rear end before I bought it. The rear end was half worn out. It had about 7000 hrs on it when I bought it. Hour meter doesn’t work but I’m gonna guess over 10k hrs. Perkins diesel which are very reliable. Next to no repairs in 23 years. These machines can be had fairly cheap. Like an old 580 k , these are good machines. My starter went a few years back. The part was 179 dollars cnd. Our starter went on our Cat telehandler, 700 bucks. Just saying.
I’ve run jcb for over 30 years the only thing I’ve ever needed is servicing and tyres , and the odd hose replacement, what you need to look at is how easy to get parts or dealer back up , for me jcb is easiest if I do need backup
I've owned many backhoes. Started with the old Ford's, they were the best until the C's (junk). Cats are awful! The JCB's dont feel right. Deere 410 and newer Cases 590 are amazing.
Doing dirt work with a backhoe bucket is slow going. maybe a 100+ horsepower skidsteer with rubber tracks. You can buy or rent any attachment you can think of. They make something called a forestry mulcher and it will grind down most anything including stumps. I have a backhoe and a skidsteer and rarely use my backhoe. After you see how much you can do with a skidsteer you won’t want to sell it. They also make 6way dozer blade skidsteer attachments.
Really!?!? I'm surprised to see you say this, I always thought they were for tight spaces and wouldn't move as much material. Makes sense though for versatility. Thank you!
The dozer blade for the Skid is complete shit. Only thing I've found it useful for is pushing small amounts of gravel or base on driveways and small pads and such.
I paid 5 grand for the koehring on my channel. I did all the cylinders, hoses, tires, transmission, I think I'll come in under 20K It's got extendable dipper.
We run Komatsu and John deere wheele loaders jcb is dropping off one of their loaders to test it for a week. I'll let you know how it goes (edit) OK we didn't even need a whole day the jcb sounded like it was crying for help the entire time. Underpowered it didn't have any of the features our other loaders have. Now it's sitting in our horse shit bin until Monday when them pick it back up
John deere 310sg , 410g is the way to go 4x4 extenahoe beats , ase and cat for strength , very reliable, very strong! Cat is good only because of its name , their not made as good as they use to be , case is better then a cat. John deere g series is number one , go to the sg in a 310
@Matt Justice [Clever Leverage] i had some experience with Skid steers like Cat and Case. The e series john deere can be confusing because the controls are slightly different. i would watch Letsdig18's video on the e series because he's got a 310e backhoe. from what he said the backhoe is very reliable.
Get a used CAT from a trusted seller that didn't rag the shit out of it. Check the cylinders for damage and make sure its been greased well. I recommend getting a pre-DEF model if youre looking for low cost.
There is nothing wrong with JCB. They're British so get lumped in with the cars for being unreliable. JCB engines are absolutely bulletproof. The one criticism I would have is to many safe guards that make it a pain in the neck. But these can be turned off with not to much bother. I wouldn't go near a Cat. I found the controls a bit slow. When putting the stabilizers down for instance. There is about 2 or 3 seconds between pushing the control and anything actually happening.
A lot of people that don't understand how back hoes work would be amazed at the fact that you can push a tree over with a backhoe. Or you can snap one at the trunk. They're extremely powerful machines
