Very bare bones , no nonsense type of set up , a pleasure to watch you work. I would ask the client about swapping out the strap posts for a locking set. The ones that are on it makes me wince a little :)

I missed your video on the calamity when it initially came out. I've been watching you since practically the beginning of the channel and you were and still are a big part of my ongoing love for working on stringed instruments. Glad you're still kickin, Dave!

Everyone does it differently. I gigged 7 nights a week with another guitarist in a group. I broke a lot of strings, didn't have a backup guitar. I learned a fast way to replace string. Hardest part was removing old string from post. Put string thru tailpiece, bring to the post and use thumb to touch headstock with string, Depending on string Guage I could wrap 4 turns around post winding up from bottom, wiggle string between the middle winds thru the winder hole and pull very tight, bend opposite direction it tuned, tune to pitch, pull on string 3 times, return to pitch, pull 3 times, tune to pitch, that sucker is stretched, in tune, and LOCKED.

I had been playing guitar about 3 months and wanted to learn so a local guitar tech/player who was one of the few guys that seemed to be able to keep a strat in tune when using the trem taught me how to sting a guitar. Which is pretty much exactly what you just showed! I usually go 1.5 on the wound and say 1.2 on the non wound... it works either way though. What it also does is help with the angle over the nut as well, which I believe you have mentioned in another video :) So glad you are feeling better! Been missing these videos!

Can't wait till you get your memory back and you are at 100% or as close as possible. At my age I am never at 100% but I learn to live with it.

There is a handsome looking acoustic guitar at one of many pawn shops in my town. If it was ever played, I doubt very much. They want 160 bucks. I don't have that much cash burning a hole in my wallet, but it sure looked clean, straight and like a keeper. I'm on the lookout for a decent mandolin that could use a bit of love and care. Very hard to find, except for Chinese Rogues or other junkers once in a while. Oh well, I probably have enough mandos anyway. Cheers, Dave. Take care. Bob in MT.

Dave, I tend to bend it (so it is like a Z) at both ends of the tuning peg. This tends to hold onto the tuning peg a bit better as you tuning it up to bitch. I learned it from someone, I think Ace's old guitar tech on RU-vid? Bill something, perhaps? Either way, it makes it easier.

Never add oil right to the fretboard. Put it on the rag first. That way it doesn't run down underneath the fret to the edge, where the lacquer pops off easy. It not always neck shrinkage. Support your guitar on the guitar,. Not at the end of the headstock.

Neck relief should be between half a smidge and not much at all. No need for feeler gauges…

Loved the guitar I bought from you. I had to put a new nut on immediately, literally. Because strings 1-3 wouldn’t ring in the open position.

I'm finding that this method of winding is not as painful when you remove the strings.....good lookin' out friend

What do you use to clean the pickups i and guitar something specific

Just wondering if that is a particular kind of cloth Dave is using to wipe that guitar down. I use the ones to wipe down cars with but they leave little kanarfs on the strings and nut or any where else it catches.

To me it's a rewarding experience to take a pos set up guitar and repair adjust it back to life.
