I really enjoy these types of hunting videos. The instruments and the stories of the people that played them are some of my favorite parts of this channel and being a guitar player in general. Thanks for the years of work you've put into this channel. I've watched you grow a lot since I started following in 2019 and I was stoked to see you get your 1937 D-18 authentic. Looking forward to seeing it appear in more videos. Take care.

I am the original owner of a 1969 D18 that I bought in 1970. It is still going strong and sounds great. Around 9 years ago I had my local ace luthier do a neck reset, fix up some binding issues, new black pick guard, rosewood bridge and I use the ebony bridge pins. I still use it at open mics and my nursing home sets. I also have a K&K pickup in it. Great guitar. And for that year, it had a black case.

I still have and enjoy my '66 D18 that I bought new in NYC... (...and I have a '73 D12-28...)

Even with old strings the resonance is obvious. Let’s hear it with new strings!!

It does sound very good Jeremy even with those old strings. I wish I would have kept my early 70's D-18

just like my story.. got my '72 D-28 from original owner.. he had shoulder problems and got a couple smaller Santa Cruz (OM and OO I think)... best deal ever, he passed it on to me no charge.. tho he is my Dad. One of the best gifts a guitarist can get. Nope, not for sale 😃

Really like your approach on Martin's. And you do good stuff to plan to fix it up and turn it around to another Martin player!

Martin D18,,,,, the most under-rated acoustic on the planet !! When you find a good one,,, BUY IT!!!! I'll never forget 5 years ago when I heard the most beautiful guitar I've EVER HEARD in an L&M in Richmond, but I passed it by because I was only buying a 2018 HD28!!! IT HAUNTS ME TO THIS DAY!! Although I wouldn't change a thing but I've never heard a sound like that one guitar ever again!!! Cuz I'm still hopelessly brainwashed for my 2018 hd28!!!

That's an awesome guitar. I won't be in the competition to get it, even though I know it would be incredible. That's awesome to have a one owner guitar like that. Right now, the budget just isn't going to afford it.

The early 1970’s Martins are a great deal. They are affordable. Not as light as the1950’s-60’s Martin’s, but the wood has aged 50 years and when set up right play and sound great.

Clean! Does it have the built in intonation feature with the incorrect bridge location?

i’m not sure why martin switched to those fugly tuners and kinda changed the headstock shape. the OG prewar butterbean tuners and sharp shape is so classic. still looks and sounds cool!

I’m the original owner of o1974 D-18. Paid for it with the money I made in Alaska, cleaning fish.

No one has mentioned the pick guard. I'm pretty sure its not the original. The 70's intonation problems is more what I would be concerned with. Maybe that was fixed with the bridge replacement. I would like to hear it again with new strings if you don't sell it right away.

Those old Martins are great but I can’t buy an acoustic without a truss rod
@JeremySheppard
@JeremySheppard Год назад
Has a truss rod. Isn't adjustable. It's fair to not want to buy an adjustable truss rod, although it's very rare they have too much or too little relief.

How lightweight are the D-18s from the 1970s? How heavy is the finish?

Are you gonna make any repairs on it ? I hope so. You shouldn’t sell this guitar for more money unless the needed repairs you mentioned are addressed. That ain’t right!

Can’t play 11/16
@JeremySheppard
@JeremySheppard Год назад
That takes out hundreds of thousands of guitars as good options. Be flexible. I prefer 1 3/4" but make sure I can play 1 11/16" to keep options open.

@kwaktak
@kwaktak Год назад
Nope. It just needs a few days in an acclimatized room and a minty fresh new set of strings. Camera microphones, outdoor recordings and the RU-vid settings don't do guitars any justice. Give it a week and that thing will ring out four chords and the Truth like nobody's business.

Man quit posting stuff with martins from bad years. Your channel has been active for a long time now, step it up and start doing finds with 40s or 50s martins. 70s martins suck. You would get way more views if you actually found extremely valuable, great sounding martins
@JeremySheppard
@JeremySheppard Год назад
Phew. That's a tall order. I don't find those very often. Also, 40's and 50's Martin's are waaay expensive these days and I'm a cash business.

I have a 1943 D-18 and I am curious what it is worth. Originally bought in Haysi Virginia in 43' taken on a Naval ship but sent back Home because of possible damage on the ship so my Grandfather received it and it now resides in Michigan
