Thanks for your investment! The key to make this work is solar charging the van drive battery. If you can drive, camp for a few days, and leave camp with more range than you arrived with, then we have a solid foundation for E-VanLife. This is something Ive been wanting to do, but I’ll watch you first 😅

Really looking forward to see what happens with this. It would be nice if you could delve into any build concerns with E-transit verses regular Transit van builds. So very excited that you got the extended high roof because that's what I'm thinking about.

I bought a 2023 E Transit. So far, I think it's great. I plan to convert it to live in while playing music gigs, attending music festivals, camping, etc. My other car is a Bolt EUV.

Nice to see a family man doing things together with there wife. I received my E Transit in January and I love it. Mine is a high roof extended and I get around 92 miles to a charge and cost about $5 to fully charge

Thanks for watching, congratulations on your E-Transit...I have noticed my range going down, and I haven't added any weight yet, I'm assuming that has to do with my driving style and that I'm commuting from the country to the city, instead of being in the city all the time (if you can call Gainesville a city)

@@strangerpalooza To get the best miles use eco in L mode. You should add about 10 to 12 miles in city driving and about 4 to 5 in highway driving.

There is new silicon batteries that are lighter, hold more power, last 30 years and cost 1/3 less then the current being used ……… ! Great that your takings this big step and I can’t wait to see what you do!

Excited to see your build! I was waiting for Ford to extend the range before jumping in! I built out a Sprinter in what I called a Fancy Tent Version! Have a almost new class “C” so a Transit would double as a daily driver also! Here’s hoping that you have great success!

I wish they would go hybrid Stan, the problem is the tax incentives are for electric only, so most manufacturers are not offering hybrid…and I think in the long run that’s a very bad idea!

All for this. In theory, one could take a longer trip in a day than just 100 miles if you simply stop for lunch at a charging station, stretch your legs, shop, etc. Then add another 100 miles.

Right C.M. I think you just have to take your time and plan for the charging stops...what I'm curious to see is if its really more efficient taking back roads and stop and go traffic vs. highways

I just got back from a 5700 miles trip in my RV. Boston to Niagara Falls from there we headed west to Rocky mountain nation park. Then to Grand Teton to Yellowstone with many stops along the way. There where times where gas stations where over 100 miles apart let alone a charging station. With around 100 mile range an electric camper van seems useless after taking the trip I just took. I'd hate to put all the money into something and be severely limited traveling with it.

There needs to be more discussion on insurrance on home made camper vans, If someone is going to live in one as thier sole residence owning no home some insurance companies will not pay nor provide insurrance, if you already have a home there is no problem, we looked into it.There has to be a video on that discussion. Also retitling it as a Class b rv from cargo van to an rv , the process, keeping recipts from the build and or the inspection from the state patrol office and sending the documents to the insurrance companies to try to get the right insurrance for it. Folks like us would like the full time van life but are blocked by prices of professional class bs and to do the dyi vans becomes a nightmare,.

Interesting to see someone trying this. IMO if you build your own LiFEO4 battery bank, like a 10K-15K wh bank, you might be on to something. with enough solar you could maybe charge like 4-5% a day which, i mean can add up if you're camping for a few days straight. Another EXPENSIVE option to look into is towing a small trailer with a ground deployable solar and massive inverter/batttery bank. Seems unreasonable at this stage to have an electric camper van but someone's gotta try it first! And I say build you own battery bank with a BMS because for something so large, you'll definitely save thousands versus buying like 50K worth of battleborn batteries lol

I love the idea of a fullt electric camper van, but the range need to be atleast twice that. The whole idea of a camper is to travel, stopping every 100 miles for hours by a charger kind of defeats the purpose, sure you can go in the back to cook or sleep, but it still sucks to be stuck at a chargepoint

Can’t believe you sold the Tesla. This looks interesting but that range is scary. What kind of charging speeds does it have? A big question for me is, as battery technology improves, will an E-Transit owner simply be able to upgrade by swapping out for new batteries to increase range? Or will it be necessary to buy a completely new vehicle in order to get more range?

The dealer told me Ford is going to offer a battery upgrade. It will be the same battery that is in the Ford Lightning pickup. There is plenty of room for a bigger battery, or more batteries under the E Transit. My thoughts are, put an additional Lithium Battery under the van and charge it with solar on the roof, and, or plug it into 110. Use it to run a small electric heater to save the main traction battery energy for driving when it's cold out. It can also run a fridge, microwave, etc. Charge the van and the additional battery overnight in campgrounds.

Are you planning to model this as a camper? If a person lives in apartment which doesn’t have any. Way to charge it, could they use charging stations? It would be nice if there was a charging adapter to Tesla’s supercharger network. I think they have something like that in Norway. There aight to be charging mechanisms similar to mobile phones.

So you traded in the Tesla? Can you add batteries to the van for extended range? I'd get the front bumper and mirror color match painted to the van color. There's a guy in New Jersey that custom builds vans to your specs. He has a RU-vid channel called Humble Road. He builds works of art, it would be great to see you 2 do a collaboration.

Yeah Lola was not happy to trade that Tesla, it really worked well for her...she drives the Audi now everyday and its nice, however it just is not a Tesla in terms of tech and software...I'm a fan of humble road it would cool just to talk to him about this and get his feedback

They need to add a tiny motorcycle or car engine to it that acts as a generator and range extender. Then you can tap into the fuel tank for heat as well, or tap into the batteries for household stuff.
