Well I mean the answer here is obvious, but I’ll say it anyway, the advice is never buy UNLESS you are a streamer, because in the case of the latter, it is actually making you money

When I was cracking tons of packs, I bought about 100 of these in total. The most expensive card I ever got was a Beta Forest and it was heavily played. They are purely for fun, you will never make money on them.

Got a bunch of similar packs a long time ago and there were no rares in the packs but each pack had a foil. Ended up with a couple valuable common and uncommon foils that appreciated well, there was a Triumph of the Hordes and Gurmag Angler. Ultimate masters reprint destroyed Gurmag's value though 😕

The dollar store near me doesn’t have packs like this. They have only 8 or 12 cards each (and no rares. You are lucky to get an uncommon. If they were like what you opened in this video and only $1, I’d buy a bunch of them as a very budget player who makes some off the wall decks and loves chaos drafts.

Some shops (depends on where u live for legality issues) even keep the dumpsters unlocked, where sometimes you can find a bunch of mtg cards or other interesting things, like candies which don't expire.

Way back in the day I bought a repack from a vending machine not knowing repacks were a thing. No rares, but I still use the crop rotation I pulled!

I love repacks though, as long as they do it with draft ratios, 10 commons, 3 uncommons, and a rare. So that you can have a chaos draft or play sealed deck. 🤗

The Dollarama near me has 100 card packs of MtG for $4. Scored some sweet EDH staples from this packs, great for budget players or just to gamble away 4 bucks for an instant 5 color Canadian highlander

This video is the exact reason why I stopped buying DOLLARAMA Magic packs. Note that he did not put a single mythic in any of these packs. Not even a jank mythic! Plus, the closest you'll probably come to pulling a planeswalker is by opening one of the War of the Spark planeswalkers. If possible, I do recommend supporting your local game store over buying these. If you don't have a local game store, I'd recommend buying from an online retailer like Face to Face Games, Channel Fireball, etc. These packs are made to intentionally rip you off. If you're just looking to Chaos draft, fine, but know that you won't be opening money cards. Here's what I think happens behind the scenes: Prisstine Marketing gets a bunch of cards that people have sent them (and/or open boxes of different sets). They sort the cards by rarity, and any good cards (like mythics or foils) they get are resold so they can buy more product. They put the cards through a machine which packages them up, and the packs are then boxed up and shipped to DOLLARAMA. In short, we're basically just "consuming their leftovers".

Ah strategic planning was a 60$ card once upon a time. It was originally from portal but was included in commander 2013 or 14 and tanked after.

Got my 5yr old a handful of them, and he got a couple of foils, and I actually pulled a decent number of cards i put in decks for the 10 bucks I spent. If I go to the dollar store I'll probably grab 4 packs just cause it's kinda fun, and they're great fun for my kid to pull. He sat down and sleeved the 60ish cards he got. Great chance for me to teach him how to be responsible, have fun, and get into the game!

Him and his 4yr old sister sat and played with them for like an hour the other day. When i play with him, I'll play my deck like normal, give us both a life total, and then I let him slap down cards within reason and explain to him what they do and when they tap and when creatures can attack, how much damage they do etc. He really likes creatures with haste xD and I'll probably start introducing mana to him here right away I'm pretty excited for when he can read well.

You know what I did when i was around your kid's age? I stole a girl's yugioh cards and used scissors to cut out the pictures. Your kid is way more responsible than I will ever be

I never got any rares in my packs either. Just like with many bulk common & uncommon boxes I've gone through over the years, many times older cards get overlooked since there set symbols did not indicate the cards rarity. Some cards found in bulk have been Storm spirit, Argivian Archaeologist, In the Eye of Chaos, 3 Mirraris Guile, and many more! So awesome.

I bought some of these a couple weeks ago and ended up pulling a timestretch and an order of leitbur dated for 1994 Pretty fun packs if you have a couple toonies in the pocket.

I always wondered, do the companies that package these cards up, actually know about the MTG market, and package these cards based on value? Or is it some bulk box of cards, and they just throw cards in these at random?

The company that repacks these buys bulk from other stores, then repacks them. They buy based on vaule, they buy the rares as "bulk rares" - so at one point someone a card shop (like starcity or channel fireball) has already picked them over,.. then the repackager has picked them over a second time. Your best chance for a hit is an uncommon that has spiked since its time in standard because it was tossed in a box 10 years ago and the repacker didn't know people want it for commander/modern/whatever.

they buy them as bulk sometimes by actual weight believe it or not. by the time the repacker gets them they have been picked over by many hands.

Legit about 3 years ago i got a rhystic study out of one of these things, i do not recommend buying them though. The only time i think they are fun was we did a chaos sealed where we each bought 5 and made decks lol

I like to pick up a couple of these from time to time just for pulling random old stuff. Most valuable card from them was impact tremors, dragons of tarkir but have pulled a couple cards as far back as revised. Nothing wrong with a quilty pleasure once and awhile

Its not. If Covid allows go to a game store on draft night and as if you can scoop peoples cards when they're finished. Its free, you will get more.

you kinda get your money back, because even if you bought these for 10 cents a card online, you actually pay a lot more with shipping and tax, and online retailers make you spend $35 to avoid shipping charges and on top of that, things like TCG direct cards will be marked up and a 10 cent card would be like 50 cents to a dollar....Also game stores will charge 25 cents no matter how cheap they for online. So I mean, these cards aren't great but if you were to buy all these separate online I could see you paying $15 for them easy.
