Whenever people start collecting Hot wheels I tell them to, "Be careful, and don't get addicted." They will laugh at me, and I will laugh back at them. Then I will say, "Okay... you'll see... you'll see." About a month or two will go by and they always come back and say" WOW, you were right...help!" Then we both laugh. 😂 It's a fun hobby, but it can go off the track fast.
Yes and no. Did they get my money. They sure did. And as I mentioned in the video, I almost refused it. But for me, spending a little money that helped to create this video to hopefully help new comers the hobby was money well spent. And from seeing all of the comments and interactions from the Hot Wheel community I will say that it was worth it. Thank you for being a part of this community and commenting. I do appreciate it very much..
They took your super! I started hunting cars in April this year and have found many supers. This is something I would have never accepted. After being a frequent customer at numerous stores, I can say some I don't trust and some I would. Sorry for your luck, thanks for the share.
Don't apologize for getting mad upset! You have all the right to be pissed off! My Walmart has the worse reputation for bringing open boxes of hot wheels from the back! N if u ask they all play stupid n nobody knows nothing but we all know it's between the employees n some customers (escalpers) that have special rights n manege to get to open the boxes before anyone else! Just recently I bought my first factory sealed case from JCarDiecast. It was premiums not mainlines, specifically the Modern Classics set. I got my package with an outer box that had the factory sealed case in it, excellent condition. Got all of my cars. Plus I got lucky and scored a chase Altezza. 100% would buy from them again. They get their cases straight from Mattel.

FYI, you're not guaranteed to get a Treasure Hunt and A Super Treasure Hunt in every case. IDK where you got that information but it is not correct. Sucks that you only got 71 castings, that means that there most likely was a Super in the case. A Walmart employee at that store probably did look through it. Bet they look in every case the day the truck delivers them. Wal-Mart is the worst place to even go hunting at in my opinion. Heads up don't order the Black Box from Amazon. Last year people were getting them delivered at their house and it was opened. Someone at a Amazon distribution center had to be going through them. Box be taped back shut and a few people stated that there was an old casting in it and not new.
A. He said Supers are about 1 in 15 cases 2. Amazon stopped selling black boxes months ago because of too many returns (i.e. people mad they didn't get Supers)
Thanks for the great info. I knew that STH were approximately 1 in every 15 cases, but I heard the regular TH were in every case and I now have hears from 2 different sources that they are not. So that confirms the "not" in every case. Thank you again..
Always remember if you don't at least three Batmobiles in the case then your case has been altered. In other news looks like they did jack your STH. That would have been car #72. The least they could have done is give you a second Jackhammer for "jacking" your STH. 🤪 BTW I turned my TH Mad Fast into a STH by giving it spectra flame repaint.
@@RoadsAndRailsHobbiesyou CAN get both and a chase in a case... they're called unicorn cases. In alot of cases you can get both ths. This would have been the 65 mercury comet cyclone.
Nice, I've been at it for 8 or so years. I've gotten a pretty decent collection at this point. It can be very fun and rewarding hobby but it can also be very frustrating.
It definitely can be frustrating. One thing recently that got to me was a locally owned toy store that I frequented regularly started taking the chase cars out of the cases of premiums, put them in a case and priced that one car as much or more than the regular price of buying the whole 5 car set....
That's too bad they gave you a open case, Been collecting for 2 years had to sell and adjust the collection..My advice stick to certain models there's just too many to collect good luck ❤
Tell me about it. I want everything I see. But I do need to learn to niche down. This whole collecting started because I am resurrecting my old HO scale slot car track and am integrating it into a new model railroad layout and I wanted to fill out the pit area with race cars and Hot Wheels are a heck of lot cheaper than slot cars. So I started buying just race cars and then I went crazy...... LOL.
Right off the bat, that case shows a white restock label on it. That case wasn’t sent to your local Walmart, that case was already at the store and they pulled it from the stock room. Another thing to note is that case was probably cracked open by a local collector or scalper and considering you pulled the regular mainline ‘65 mercury cyclone, it was a dud case, they folded the case and put it back on the pallet. As someone who has been collecting die-casts since the late 70's, please understand "corruption" is not NEW! Back then, before the internet, the main(primary)platform used for corruption (scalpers/resellers) were flea markets, toy shows, even garage sells. It literally got so bad that I actually got out of the hobby for some time. Brother, I am shocked you accepted an OPEN case! I would have refused it, right there in the store!
The best policy dude, is take it right back, if it's in that condition. Better yet, make sure you receive it at the customer service/layaway desk. If it has been damaged or has been opened, you can demand another case right there. Most likely, there was a thief there, at Walmart that opened it. If you must buy cases, you're better off ordering them from hobby stores on-line.
I almost did return it right on the spot, but I figured it would make good content that would hopefully be able to help other newbies like myself to the hobby be careful when making purchases like this.
@PaulsRailroad Nods, good point, but hard lesson learned. I try to watch the "Lamley Group" channel on RU-vid here. The guy is very informative and even has connections to Hot Wheels getting things sent to him early to preview. There's other channels too, that can help you in your quest. Personally, I never buy cases. I usually find my treasure hunts and super treasure hunts in places like grocery stores and dollar stores. It all comes down to luck. Sorry but I wooda refused an opened box right there at the store. If they did not have a sealed box there, and policy was as is, I wooda counted out the cars right there, even looked for an old one placed within.
Wow lesson learned and that's for my self as well but also checked the back at the top the last letter will be the case that you purchased they should all match, here's what you can do return the whole thing or return the ones you don't want. They will take them back
Great video, man. I almost did the same thing and buy from a WM reseller. I had a feeling too many hands would be touching the box so it was too much risk. I'm lucky enough to live in Houston, TX and am less than 30 minutes from JCar Diecast. I buy my cases from them and pick them up myself. They often get "re-tapes" directly from Mattel. My wife and I personally met James, the owner, and felt confident enough to spend our money on cases from them.
If it's the super that's the car missing then it's the 65 Mercury Comet Cyclone... 😢 Get a refund or replacement, you paid for a new case and got an open one missing product.
This is why I distrust prople who work at stores that sell Hotwheels, they horde it and open stuff that's supposed to be going on the sales floor to be sold and pegged. I search everywhere for my collection but rarely do I buy cases online, these cars are cheaper IMO bought individually. Granted bulk is cheaper but not always, plus I am not into the fantasy Hotwheels, especially the Batman nonsense which is in literally every case, unless it's a TH or STH.
If you collect and don't horde I get it. I mean I would probably do the same thing if I'm being honest, but I wouldn't take every single TR or STR either. Now if the person is doing it just to resale, well the shame on them and I agree. Keep your paws out of the cases...
@PaulsRailroad I agree. There's many people who'll open cases in the backroom and take what they want leave the scraps for everyone else. Can't say for certain if they're reselling or collecting but I do bet you a lot are taking the valuable ones to resell only. That's just my opinion. Plus I have yet been given the opportunity to open a fresh case. I was told by stores the customers aren't allowed to open it, a store employee has to and it's technically considered store property.
Shop at places like Jada toys , 1stop diecast or diecast direct. Factory sealed cases. I stay away from eBay ... it's a cesspool of those box store employee thieves.
Hot wheels are great to buy if you're collecting hot wheels wont work on any train layouts only if you're useing g gauge trains too big for ho not the right scale for o gauge or o27 hot wheels are 1 64 scale o gauge you need to use 1 43 scale vehicle's
Hey Richard. I will be incorporating the hot wheels into an HO scale layout. I know they are too big, but hear me out. I am using them because I am also incorporating my old "HO" slot car track into the layout as well. I mean it's a fantasy layout and I'm not a "rivet" counter so I just want to have some fun.. Oh and I do believe that they would work with S Guage just fine because S Guage is also 1/64th. scale. Let me know your thoughts. Yea i remember people getting fired for that with racing champion cars, also i would have sent that open case back for a refund, no item sold as new should be open, walmart would have refunded you for sure
Alright so I don’t want to upset you more but I’ve opened a couple of L cases this year and when I found my super there were two versions. The mainline and the super right next to it. So your case probably did have the super in it. If I were you I would return that case for my money back. It’s not right for them to do that. Happy hunting friend.

Is (1) treasure hunt a guarantee per case? The fact that the treasure hunt remained leads me to these conclusions: 1. there were 2 treasure hunts from the get go 2. it was a super treasure hunt (bummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmer) 3. it was a specific item somebody needed (not wanted) Great public service announcement.
All the Walmarts here that I've been to operate like that when I believe we're from the same state given your picture for your RU-vid the Pennsylvania Shield I've been collecting for about a year and I've only found three Super Treasure Hunts and one of them I bought off a Walmart employee for a bunch of money one I found at a Dollar General and the other one I got in an Amazon Black Box but I recently been finding a bunch of stuff that I've been having to go to the store every day and have to be there when they open I found some M2 chases I found the matchbox GT40 super Chase some white lightnings but I've been putting work in also on Amazon they sell cases that are repackaged and it says right in the description that there's no chance of a treasure hunt or a Super Treasure Hunt
I'm not from PA. My main hobby is model railroading and I model Pennsylvania Railroad equipment. We are neighbors though. I've been thinking about buying an Amazon black box, but I didn't know if there was a chance of finding a good car in one. Thanks for letting me know that you did.
@@RoadsAndRailsHobbies there's definitely a chance of it but you have to read the details on those as well some of those people buy and return but yeah that's where I got my first one ever and that makes sense we're well known for our railroads here in Pennsylvania there's an old train station in castanea and in the basement the gentleman that runs the place now is a museum has a huge model train station it's quite cool another thing that a lot of people do around here is a GO train watching
Was the case in another box? I would have opened right there. My local Walmart stores have employees, at one location it is the toy manager, that go through the cases prior to being put out. I was told this by a former Walmart employee. Did you make a complaint?
Nope the case was brought to me just like I showed it on the video. And yes I did complain to the customer service manager when I picked up the case. Her response was that I could just get my money back if I wasn't happy with the condition of the merchandise. And to be frank I almost did, but since I was given attitude and pretty much brushed off, I decided to keep it and use it to make this content in hopes of making other newvies to this hobby aware of what could happen and I wanted to bring light if what is happening at big box stores more to light. Now I know the store are so big and they don't give one little crap about us, but hey, maybe the right person is watching. Oh and when I found out that I was missing a car. I went back to that store to get my money back for that one car. Spoke to the same CS manager and again she was very rude and curt. And man did she defend her employees. She said that none of her employees would steal. Oh well. People like that are miserable for a reason and I feel sorry for them. Thanks for taking the time to reach out to me. I'm the same I started 2018 I found about 20 or 25 but I hunted everyday and the store employees would let me open cases I got lucky . But I don't collect mainline much anymore premium and RLC stuff only
I don't like it, but I can understand the desire to do so. Like I mentioned. If I has the opportunity to get first dibs on them, I probably would as well. Difference is I collect and don't sell, so I'm not greedy and wouldn't take every single sought after car.
As a fellow ho train hobbiest. Ive just sub to your channel. Im slowly adding my trains to youtube on a 2nd channel listed in my About me info. As for howheels.... Ive been collecting since 1991 an have many of my childhood cars from home which are shown on this channel . An my childhood cars from my grandparents house which are in better condition also shown on this channel. All i can say is dont buy cases an dont chase cars... Unleas you are only looking at the return value of future sale. If you collect what you like for your own enjoyment an dont care about its value... Dont chase whats hot. Then youll be alot happier and safer from scalpers. You will put less wear an tear on your mind, body, vehicle and marriage. From my perspective hotwheels got worse as for collecting when mattel intriduced treasure hunts in 1995. As all hell broke loose an so began the rat race to outdo the other collector. Which opened the door for flippers, scalpers an such. Sure ive stubbled upon treasure hunts since 95. But i dont chase them. Enjoy what you find an dont buy cases, dont buy from 2nd hand employees, dealers, flippers or scalpers. Youll be a lot happier👍
Dont get me wrong.... I look and buy new ones as well. Im always searching at any store that may have hotwheels. But i dont go out of my way to chase hotwheels at every store. I have a couple of friends who do run the roads an yes ive asked them for specific type if cars. One is local an the other is 100s of miles away
I ran from store to store one day like a dummy. And I found three regular main lines that I even wanted. So yeah, I don't do that anymore. But yeah the thrill of looking through the pegs still has me in it's grasp. That's how I found my first two treasure hunts, just by happenstance. And that thrill is like a freaking drug. LOL
yeah honestly not even a surprise or a shock that this hapened! Thats what this hobby and other hobbies have turned in to. sadly! Well I did complain and of course the manager vehemently said that none of her employees would do such a thing. That it must have happened before it got to the store. She did tell if I wasn't happy to just return it. I thought about it, bit it better served in making this video to share with everyone.

This hobby is great but, the shady things that happen before these cases ever hit the shelves make it hard to even want to take the time and find these things. It's so expensive especially now because they put out so many different chases that u would go broke trying to find them all or buy off ebay. Especially the nft ones.

Never EVER buy Hot Wheels from 3rd party on Walmart, Target etc....because it's never as advertised. There are a few distributors out there that sell factory sealed and yes one of them is A & J toys. I've been collecting since 1995 and I have dropped out of Hot Wheels rehab more than I can count. I went cold turkey with cigarettes but can't seem to kick this habit. 😁
Man of all of the hobbies I have ever been involved in, this is definitely the most addictive. I think for me it's the thrill of the hunt. Definitely need a Hot Wheels anonymous group to help me. LOL
