Enjoyed the video. Will consider checking out in the future. We haven't used Michelins in over 12 years as if you have a tire failure while traveling you can't find a replacement. You need a tire that any truck stop or service center has access to at all times. Thanks

Hi Mike. It really was an impressive experience. I thought the installer would need to be there half a day to get it all done, but he was in and out in a little over an hour. BTW, there's no provision for carrying a spare on most diesel pusher Class As like ours. That's why you need a really good roadside assistance program when you travel in one of those.

🇨🇦 Hi Duane . As the owner of a heavy duty truck repair company, dozen of tire are removed and installed daily during regular maintenance service in my shop. So I’m curious if the wheels are only installed with the air impact wrench or do they actually use proper wheel torquing procedures with a torque wrench. Also, a wheel re-torque is ABSOLUTELY necessary (with a torque wrench) within 60 miles. I can’t stress a re-torquing enough.
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare Год назад
That's actually a good reminder Greg. My installer did not use a torque wrench as he installed the wheels. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!
@gregwhelan1694
@gregwhelan1694 Год назад
@@RVInspectionAndCare tire installers tend to over torque with the large air guns. That can cause other issues with wheel studs and nuts. Our technicians are only allowed to used small guns to run the nut up insuring not to reach the torque value. (475 ft lbs) Then hand torque.
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare Год назад
@@gregwhelan1694 I contacted motorhometires.com about the matter and they said that they are willing to arrange for a service to torque the lug nuts just to be sure that there is no concern about them. We are in the process of setting up an appointment for that to be done. So it appears that they are continuing their excellent level of customer service on this issue. For anyone reading these comments, be sure that the installer torques the lug nuts on your rig when installing new tires. And thanks again Greg for bringing this issue up!

Here's an update on the lug nut situation - Motorhometires.com got right on the horn with the company that installed the tires and requested that they send another tech out to verify that the lug nuts were torqued properly. And sure enough, another installer came and used a proper torque wrench on all of the lug nuts on my rig. So I feel a lot better now about driving on these new tires. And kudos to Motorhometires.com for seeing this issue through and getting a good resolution to the problem. I wish more companies handled matters like this in the RV world these days.

@@RVInspectionAndCare 🇨🇦 appreciate the update Duane. But most important is you received the right procedure for wheel maintenance. I know you are a safety first thinker. 👍

Thanks for sharing, sounds like a good company to work with. Replaced them right on your site! Last fall for our 5th wheel we ordered tires online from Simple Tire. They work the same way as you experienced with motorhome tires. I could of had them shipped to an installer where we were but I chose to have them shipped to the campground with their permission. Local car and light truck tire shops could not change the tires, the sidewalls of trailer tires are too stiff and their machines could not do the job. I used a local heavy truck/semi shop and they had it done in no time.
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare Год назад
That sounds great. Thanks for sharing your experience in the comments here. Clearly, it is possible to have RV tires replaced wherever you may be these days. And thanks for the tip about using a heavy duty truck shop for installation too!

This is a very helpful video and I will certainly consider them in the future. Here in Ocala, FL I have found dealers that can sell me the tires but don't install them on RVs. Curious to see if they offered to check the torque on the tires after you had driven the motorhome.........my understanding is that is an important step, as another viewer stated.
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare Год назад
They can ship the tires wherever you want Robert. To you personally, one of their local installers or any shop you want. My installer did not offer to torque the lug nuts and I didn't think about it at the time. But I have some more work to be done on the rig soon, so I'll have the repair shop torque them then.

Michelin has a 7 yr warranty and the factory rep at the FMCA rally stated that Michelins recommends to replace every 10 yrs if the tires had been services properly. The rep stated that the Rv tire has a batter compound than in yrs past. So the statement of changing tires every 5 to 7 yrs is not correct.

I didn’t see any torque wrench come out. Putting them on with a 1” air gun can over tighten the lug nuts, make them hard to get off in the future especially if you have to do it with out a 1” air gun. If you have an old school rig, with nuts & studs over torquing can ruin your lug nuts!😮
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare Год назад
I spoke with motorhometires.com about that issue and they had the installer come back out and torque all the lug nuts to specs within just a few days. Their customer service on this matter was great.
@tourefoster6603
@tourefoster6603 Год назад
@@RVInspectionAndCare That's good! But you might be over looking the issue. The installer should not use the 1" gun to tighten the lugs. Those will often over torque the nut! Once they are over torqued the damage is done. Should put them on with less powerful gun and then use toque wrench to get to the specified toque.this way they are not over tight. I like your videos good information but have seen this issue first hand so people should be aware of this. Have a great summer 🌞

I had roadside service where the guy was physically overweight and out of shape, i had to go under to pull the spare for him and afterwards when i asked about the torque level from his impact tool, i reached down and found two bolts were still hand loose. I then provided him my tire wrench.... be careful my friends, labor quality/trades need to be checked.

Too many are financially incented like JC Travels "commercials" lately. We humans have a bias flaw acting often so disclaimers are helpful. I believe in your good nature to help RVers, thanks for the hard work you're doing on your channel.
