My 2014 GLI has 200K miles. I love this car. Its been carbon cleaned and almost every part has been replaced. New suspension, new brakes/tires, entirely new cooling system, new belt, battery, alternator, and timing chain service. Thinking about some red top APR coils. My favorite upgrades: Unitronic stage 1 ECU/TCU tune Upgraded Billstein B4 shocks 034 Solid rubber motor mounts 034 Aluminum dogbone mount 034 Beefier rear sway bar Tuxmat custom front/rear floor mats
Yikes, that is a TON of stuff to have to replace on a 2014. Personally I drive a 2015 and the only part that's required replacement was the accessory belt. Always heard VW's were pricey to maintain. Jeez.
17:47 These actually come off pretty easily with heat. Just heat them pretty good and the glue will begin to come loose. After some heat, just use some pliers and try to gently rotate the mounts. If they don't seem to move, apply more heat, they should come off safely and not damage the windshield in any way. Be careful not to drop the hot mount in the interior, so it's nice to also protect the places where the hot mirror mount may fall on top of. I've worked in a place that replaced windshield and sometimes there was the need to remove and reglue those mounts and using this method, I have never seen a windshield break before. Nice video, as always!
My MK7.5 has been very reliable - it's stock and I intend to keep that way. Most of the complaints about VW reliability stem from ill installed mods or owners just not doing the right thing - or taking the cheap way out.
100%, especially when they look like this. You know there were a lot lessons learned by the last owner on this car. That’s not the type of car you want to buy for 2/3 the cost of a nice one from the dealer or near perfect private party with half the miles. But it makes for great content showing the weak links in the MK7, doesn’t hurt to have a lift, $40k in tools and ,ya know, a parts company were worst case the parts are at wholesale cost and best it’s a write off because of the YT video.
Mine just turned 80K for a ‘11. The only way I would go for a MK7 would be a two door like my current one. Did all the major services done too. I’ll wait
130k on my 16 GTI. Recently the water pump went out, but I replaced that with your kit. Zero issues other than that. It's been a very reliable car. I don't mind owning mine well into the future
I had the same issue with the E-brake handle: the thin leather pulled out from the plastic handle and the squishy goop (to make the leather feel thicker and squishier?) was oozing out. Not wanting to have to deal with that again I put in the ECS billet handle.
Change the passenger rear speed sensor, oem only. They go bad and cause all of those faults that won’t clear. I had the same issue on my a3 8v. For some reason it’s at a point on the circuit that causes a insane about of problems.
I have the same cracks on my sunroof trim. No leaks yet and my appeared about two years ago. I hate the look of it, but at the same time I love my mk7. Please show us how to replace this trim. Please please please 🙏
@@johna.4334 I bought a 2004 Golf from a police auction for $800. I paid a shop $2,600 to install another engine and $1,000 to fix the heater core. I paid an upholster shop $4,100 to redo the inside because the sunroof was leaking. Now I can't get the a/c to work. The dealer wanted $1,700 to fix it. I have videos of me hot wiring it to work.
@@blackericdenice I feel your pain. Word to the wise: Teach/force yourself to do the repair work yourself. If this is not possible then buy the car new with a warranty.
Those wheels...from a ~2012 Golf TDI. I have a set of them with snow tires...I pulled them off my 2012 TDI before selling it back to VW, because diesel scandal....
just bought a mk7 gti with 36k miles and the driver side front wheel/or brakes squeaks really bad, squeeks at low speeds and usually goes away af higher speeds, also goes away when breaking, i’m guessing it’s a brake related issue, brakes are pretty worn out. any ideas?
At least the control arm didn't almost fall on you, like a previous GTI inspection. Hope you guys have some Cars & Cocktails podcasts coming still. It is my favorite podcast to listen to.
about a year and a half ago i bought a 2016 mk7 gti 2 door performance with 140k on it for 8k. after doing some mods like a e30 stage 2 i sold it to a good buddy of mine and it is currently at almost 200k miles on it everyone should be buying this dirt cheap high mile mk7s
I feel like I got a great deal in this crazy over inflated market. Picked up a insanely clean one owner, garaged ‘17 GTI Sport DSG with 39K miles for $21K. The thing is still brand new. I love that it has the Golf R brakes and mechanical LSD. I almost pulled the trigger on a just as mint ‘19 with 32K miles for $32K. So the one I got was a steal.
I still can’t get over how a car can be 5 years old and not have a single rock chip or scratch anywhere. I feel bad commuting to work on I-95 where you can’t avoid getting behind a dump truck. I. HATE. DUMP. TRUCKS. 😂🤬
Thank you for video, can you please share the link for mk6 gti scary issues. Thank you again I was not aware VW has changed engine or upgraded it with new mk7!
I got super lucky last week and picked up an 08 gli for 4800. 76k miles and owned by an old man almost all its life. I was looking at buying a mk7 but decided to buy this and wait a couple years till I upgrade.
Can you guys give us some info on timing chain needs at this mileage? I got a very similar deal, 130k 2016 PP/Autobahn with ACC/DCC, basically fully loaded and i got it for 10k even. It was pretty much problem free, freeway miles, bone stock, and I did all my maintenance (dsg, plugs, coils, fluids, etc). But coming from a mk6, not sure if the timing chain is something that should be serviced/replaced, or if it's not an issue, etc.
i was seeing on the forums that the chains are really solid on these cars and they are rated for around 200k miles since they have a really robust system. you can even change em yourself if you want its time consuming but from what i saw on the DIY posts its not what id call "Hard"
Charles cut his finger! Feels like an insurance claim. See you the 27th if your in the office. Got my trans lockout pin in stock, yay, and getting my brakes upgraded and installing a strut brace. I like Duncan, great pick up for you Paul. Plus like I said, you will never have to worry about shop security when he is there lol. I will miss seeing the Alltrack in the back. Guess I will snoop around the Mk7. Awesome as always bro, thank you for all that you do.
8:38 My previous car was exactly like this white Passat at first plan.2017 SEL 1.8T. I loved it, but why someone put 1.8T there with normal automatic trans??? Why not DSG??? Car was so slowwww. WHY ??? Roomy interior, deaccent quality, nice features on SEL trim but this engine/trans combo killed any driving pleasure !! I turn to 21 GLI Autobahn.
My 15 Gti has the same horrible paint peeling on the front and rear bumpers. The rest of the car is immaculate. Pisses me off because I’m a Autobody painter lol.
Lol same. But I’m gonna buzz mine down prime it and go over with PPG deltron and 3000 clear. I suspect will last longer than the oem paint. Something about reds and whites always have de-lamination issues 🤦♂️
Why would someone put those cheap-looking, plain-Jane, bottom of the line, standard Golf wheels on a GTI? I'm not a huge fan of the standard Mk7 GTI wheels either... but they are miles above those "Sedan DePlains" that were on it when you purchased it! Is that an SE or an Autobahn model? I see the leather seats and the red stripe through the headlights. Definitely NOT S model features.
Ok I have to ask. July 10th I was on the highway heading out to Tennessee from Michigan and someplace along the way I saw a red mk7 GTI and I'm about 95% sure it was you driving it. I also have a red mk7 GTI and I got along side you and was trying to coax you into a little race. Was that you or am I crazy?
my GLI was $9700 out the door and so far only replaced the pcv valve and accessory belt. theres a small oil leak from the timing cover ans thats it. i bought it with 123k mi and im on 130k now and its still fine 👍🏾
I bout two brand new MK7’s a 2016 in April 2016 and 2017 Sport in December 2017. This was during the diesel gate scandal. I paid 20k brand new for the 2016 and 21k for the 2017. The days of deals are long gone. I will be sure to buy a MK8 but only when I can get a similar deal in a few years.
I paid 10k for my 15 GTI 115k miles. It had a broken radiator support from a curb check and still has flaws in paint. I'm in the process of stage 3 uprades.
Hi .. I have jetta 2019 s type with 1400 turbo engine and i have a message in the malfunction screen (( engine speed max 3000 rpm. & error start stop)) .. can you help ?
Mine is at auction somewhere with 261k miles and in need of a flywheel and another waterpump lol, someone go find it 010540 are the last 6 of the vin, is a 2017
Lord I would like to know why the GTIs suffer from breaking the chain and the time strap and what to do so that this does not happen and how to know when to change I would appreciate your answer ..Blessings to you and your channel Greetings
As soon as I saw cheapest MK7 I knew it was a 2015. They go for considerably less than 2016+, most likely due to Android Auto/Carplay and Backup Cameras as standard equipment.
Watch the video, he shows you what the most likely culprit is it's at like 12:00. I have a full turbo back and I'm willing to bet the little hangers need to be trimmed to stop them from smacking the subframe
@Bryce Czirr yeah heat, or gravity or just the engine moving. The sound displayed in the video and the one im experiencing are almost identical so it makes me think that's the cause
