Why is there not a "no" between "こども" and "りょうきん"? There are two nouns being linked, and I thought in this case you should separate the words with the "no" particle. Thanks.

Once you can read the kana (hiragana and katakana), and you can pronounce them, you're ready for this level. There are no kanji in this lesson, which would make this more difficult. "Tokyo" and "Kyoto", for example, would be in kanji in real life (though they're both very simple kanji, and worth learning very early for obvious travel reasons).
That's a counter, to indicate it's five (somethings) instead of just five. There are several counters to use depending on the type and shape of thing being counted. Counters are considered one of the weirdest things in Japanese. :)
