Great list my friend!!!! I would also say Longines! Love their heritage range. Maybe always make their watches 2 to 3 millimetre’s too big but their military history and reinterpretations are sweet!!!! Still want a Big Eye Chrono! Maybe a tad big but nothing compared to that cockpit Altimeter your still wearing HAHAHA! It’s a beauty really!!

I feel like I’m in the minority, but I’ve come to really value having a date complication on my daily wear tool watches. And unfortunately Tudor only has date complications in their more bulky offerings. If they ever made a BB58 sized watch with a date complication, that would be fantastic.

As said previously, Longines. Definitely should make the list. Tudor is my number one. It surpasses so many pieces at the same price point even if the “Black Bay” line up is getting a redundant. What is funny to me is that everyone pushes for smaller pieces, I actually like the original 41mm “slab sided” originals. The original heritage line will always be iconic yet modern. Love FC! I also have been looking to add one to my collection. Can’t decide over the Highlife line or a more classic piece. They are exquisite! Excellent smorgasbord of options, TGV. Thank you, as always. Seiko Marine Master 300. Not yet as iconic as its Rolex and Omega counterparts, but destined to future legend status, and currently the best buy in the luxury divers category. Also, Omega is rumored to release a reissue of the iconic 1960's Seamaster 300 big triangle... much likely over 5k, but an absolute killer.

Love that you mentioned Grand Seiko! Best value in luxury watches! Only thing I do hate is the 9S hi beat as when I store it in my watch roll I see it lose about 3-4 seconds a day! So annoying! If I have it flat I think I get about +1-2 a day. After a month I lost a minute 🤬🤬🤬🤬. I love Grand Seiko but have to share my not so pleasant experience because I expected more. Spring drive is great and I am eyeing on a 9A5 movement because just looking at that design it should be a much more stable watch.

I don't think those ETA based IWCs are worth the money they are going for. They used to sell for 2.5K just a year or two ago, but can't be found under 4-5K anymore. For what is essentiually a super simple dial (that lacks luminescent digits AND most of indexes except at 3 6 9 and 12) and an off the shelf caliber, it is too expensive.

My first true luxury watch was one I just received this past Christmas. A Tudor Pelagos in black. It's done what I thought no watch ever could--become the only watch I ever wear anymore. Too much text on the dial? I love it. The matte black ceramic bezel, the amazing crispness of an all-titanium watch, the sharp edges, the endless versatility...it's a watch that scratches all my itches. The fact that it's not an 'iconic' watch you see in lots of movies actually makes it more attractive to me. This isn't James Bond's watch, it's mine.

I’m still fearful about purchasing used or vintage classics as I’ve deemed myself still uneducated on the matter but my first “luxury”(subjective) watch is a 38mm Tudor Royal. Looking at my collection I already have a dive and a dress watch so I’ve opt for the in between Royal. Its not COSC certified but mine should be and having smaller wrists the shape of the watch is closer to 36mm. Sincerely Jerome

Excellent video, TGV! It comes at a remarkable time - I recently acquired my grail watch, a mid-1970s Porsche Design 7176S by Orfina, which will be my nomination for one of the best iconic watches/brands in this price category. A watch that needs to introduction, from a brand that has continually produced original and phenomenal designs for over 50 years, not to mention the tie-in with the eponymous car marque. It's certainly not to everybody's taste, but for me that's part of the appeal! I recall you were considering getting one of these design icons, I could not recommend it enough. There is nothing quite like the genuine patina on the lume or the aged, almost gunmetal like PVD finish on the case and bracelet. This one ain't leaving my wrist anytime soon. Regards, K.

Back in 1980, I flew out to Middle East with my wife and one year old son on one of those all expenses paid contracts. After two years, we took our first holiday to Switzerland (much cooler) and I decided to get myself a decent watch. My wife suggest Rolex, so we walked down the main shopping street in Geneva and found ourselves in the Bucherer Boutique. No idea which model to chose, so I looked around and came out with a new Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet and a champagne dial. Just over 2,000 dollars worth. Still have it today. Been serviced a couple of times since then and after 40 years, it still manages +1 sec/day!! Did somebody say quality? :)

I will never ever buy a “luxury “ watch again ! I feel all the manufacturers especially rolex will take advantage of the customer! High price watches are not worth what they are charging! Tudors success comes as a homage brand to Rolex, but just cheaper and chunkier. It will nevershake off poor mans Rolex, as that is why it was created in the first place. If it wasn't a sister company, it would be hated for leaning so heavily into Rolex back catalogue/ current catalogue. I don't think anyone is being fooled, and it's incredible how much air time it gets for a brand not even in the top 10 for luxury watches in terms of market share. Ferrari and Fiat had joint ownership for a while. A fiat is no Ferrari, no matter how much you tell yourself it is. Just go buy a steeldive and save yourself £3k, or a Longines for a brand with great heritage. Better yet, if you like the look of Rolex, save up and buy one. You can wear the steeldive whilst saving. Having said that, plenty of great choices in this video showing you what's out there.

😅😅Skip all the bullshit brands and the pain in resale, depreciation etc. Just buy a vintage Rolex Datejust. Could be your one and only watch or sell it to upgrade later on. It's versatile, classy, robust, sporty, dressy and respectable. I wouldn't bother with anything else. I bought my first Rolex at 20 with money earned from my first job. 2 years later I sold it to go on a world trip. Then saved enough to buy another Rolex. It's a good forced savings alternative to having money sitting in a bank account with everyday temptation to spend it. If I didn't put my money into Rolexed I probably would have frivolously spent all of my earnings. If I had bought another brand I would be out of pocket up to 60 percent. So buy a Rolex. Buy only Rolex. It's not an investment. It's value retention. Trust me, you'll be thankful in a few years.

I hate to say it, but "Made in Germany" is just as compromised as "Swiss Made" perhaps even more so. There's some pretty cheap heinous junk bearing that label, the several true heritage German brands notwithstanding. Speaking of German brands, though, one truly uncompromised brand is Nomos Glashutte. Don't sleep on those guys. Their recent work developing not only their own movements, but their own escapements and balance springs is noteworthy. And they have their own distinct take on the Bauhaus style. They deserve a place on a list like this.

Great take on the value concept. I think I agree that when you get up to 5k plus, the brand is a big part of the value. At the 'affordable' end, its much more about tangible values (construction quality, materials etc) for the price where micros and now Chinese brands have caused so much disruption. In my experience so far, these two concepts of value meet at around 2k. Personally I cant see much difference in quality between my Cpt Cook or Aquis and my Seamaster or Superocean both costing a ton more. And I maintain the best 'quality for the money' watch I've ever handled is the Sinn 104. Mine is on the fine link bracelet and every time I wear it the balance between sheer solidity and refinement surprises me. Take care.

I am a hardcore Seiko guy, but some Chinese brands are getting very good (Artelier Wen comes to mind, but Seagull has some great watches as well).

I am currently saving so I have money for some big achievement, what that will be we will see but good to start saving before so i can drip money into it over time. Either way my current 2 watches i am looking into is the classic and elegant santos carree i believe the reffrence number is either 2960 or 2961. The other option would be an omega, most likley seamaster or speedmaster. If I had to pick one though it would probobly be the carree its just that finding it inside norway so I dont have to pay the 25% VAT at customs is kinda crucial when you are a young man on a budget. With the customs fee the cost of a carre would get close to what I could get a pre-owned santos de cartier that isnt much older than a year for.

Ahh....the FC worldtimer. At first when I saw this watch on video I wasn't quite impressed, but once I saw it in person I went from "meh.." to "shut up and take my money!" in about ten seconds.

The Doxa Sub 300T or Sub300 Professional! Can't get any more iconic than that! You could even get both for less than 5k.

Excellent suggestion, thank you! I will be covering Doxa hopefully again. Badly needs an update. I discovered some really interesting stuff about them when doing a ton of research about Squale and Von Buren's influence on Doxa.I look forward to hopefully covering it later this year. I’ve just bought a Longines Conquest V.H.P and I’m in love with it. Just touching £1000 but worth every penny. I’m already eyeing my next one, think it’s going to be the Tissot PRX powermatic80. I think it’ll be the watch I wear on my wedding day which is fast approaching. Love the content TGV, keep’em comin.

I’d recommend the Tudor BB36 - I love mine - Explorer size and (sort of) looks, but for £2400 - a steal considering what a nice, well engineered, and subtle watch. The Omega Aqua Terra would also be on my list - lovely timepieces. For a real budget watch with a high spec, I’d always recommend the Orient Mako.

I'd suggest the formex essense as an affordable alternative to the omega aquaterra. Aquaterra is a bit overpriced for what it is in my opinion.

Great list TGV, as usual. You know, I just can’t get over the feeling that a watch without a date complication does not serve me well. So those options that don’t sport it are automatically out of the list for me.

Why are rado watches never ever talked about by many watch collectors?
@theurbangentry
@theurbangentry Год назад
I have tried for several years to reach out to them. They do not loan watches for reviews unfortunately. It's sad that there is still many brands who do not like Independent reviews due to the "negatives" section. IMO, a review is pointless without it respectfully honesty feedback. Hopefully one day they will reply. Thank you Johny, Best regards, TGV
