Buzzsaw - Hyper Aggression Leads To Quick Wins

The best defense is a hyper aggressive offense! Buzzsaw is about chaining offensive techniques together, without pause, until you can either capitalize on a mistake your opponent makes or finally land a solid move. Cardio is a requirement, but as someone who takes their BJJ seriously, limiting your technique instead of just working on your cardio sounds very silly.

as someone who is a lazy, non competitive sack of potatoes, I always learn a lot when I watch your videos. they disgust me because it means I'll have to make myself uncomfortable to improve. but it's a good thing.

I'm glad that you are honest about the need to push your physicality (cardio, strength, flexibility) in order to be a world-class competitor. When I first started BJJ, the common narrative was that technique was all you needed. When the technical factor is even then the physical factor makes the difference.
@MrStrongBro
@MrStrongBro Год назад
I used to think the same. My dad started in the early 2000’s under Jacare. For years he preached the mentality to never lift weights because technique was king and conquers all. While technique and efficiency are still a huge factor, on world class levels, you have to increase physicality to keep up with such an enormous pace. You know the technique it takes to jump, but if you don’t exert enough force, you won’t come off the ground.
@NOCDIB
@NOCDIB Год назад
@@MrStrongBro I remember when the Miyao brothers were once interviewed as brown belts and they said that Jiu Jitsu was their only exercise. When they first moved to the United States they started doing crossfit, etc. I'm certain that there has not been a Black belt world champion in at least the last 10 years who only does BJJ and nothing else. Even blue belt competitors now have S&C coaches, cryotherapists, etc.
@androthsatyr
@androthsatyr Год назад
Dude, absolutely agreed. Recently (white belt, in my 9th month training) I realized despite being a pretty huge guy (about 220 lbs/100 kg), if I pressure people early on with more explosiveness/strength and don't let them set up techniques, a vast majority of the white belts and even blue belts just make mistake after mistake and they don't expect you to blow up in their face like this. Now I know I gotta look into the buzzsaw concept in more detail. Great video again, bros!

@@androthsatyrexperienced almost the same, im tall (rather lanky) and i was confused why i kept getting ragdolled when i was using correct technique but was just trying to stay chill to avoid being the spazzy white belt.. watched this video and the same night i was forcing people to make mistakes over and over

Question Andrew: Do you roll similar in training? If so, how often would you say you incorporate the buzz saw mindset in your practice rolls?
@fennec812
@fennec812 Год назад
Honestly, I feel like this ethic is peak BJJ. I don’t mind the slow burn pressure game, but I *do* mind how it seems like it’s come to define what is “good” BJJ. You should be able to slow the pace if you need, but sinking a sub in ASAP is, to me, a much better expression of skill. I hope we see a shift towards this because BJJ is really primed for it. A lot of places really don’t teach this. I think it comes from a place of wanting to get rid of the spazzes, but there is a big difference between uncontrolled spasming and informed aggression.
@jamesn3122

@theoneandonly6741
@theoneandonly6741 Год назад
Club with a collar tie to drop their head level, then uppercut the underhook. Also try going for different grips that would make them open their elbow, like pulling away from a same side wrist grip.
@Kae_Stof
@Kae_Stof Год назад
You can even do a wrist grab and when they flare their wrist out to break the grip just release the hand and shoot the underhook. It's not always the easiest position to work but it's very effective if the guys flares his arm out wide

Great video explaining the benefits of being first and fast. I am a judoka. whenever I roll with BJJ guys I have to give them a disclaimer from the start that I move like a judoka. We move fast and with intent. A Lot of bjj guys take this as aggression during practice and get upset. I believe you should spar like you are going to fight..Moving slow and flow rolling is ok but when its Rondori time its on like Donkey Kong....To many BJJ players fall into the Guard Dogma. They just assume the position and then just play this slow game of lets exchange moves....Main goal should be to finish the fight ASAP!....Thanks for the content.

Drill a TON to make your transitions smooth and eliminate pauses. Force yourself to be doing some kind of positive action at all times in your roll, whether thats a complete move or something as simple as pushing down on a leg when you should be. Every three or four seconds you should practice throwing a move out.

Guys first mistake was locking hands. I don't know why people do this, but it seems like they do it because they have seen everyone else do it. It's not a good habit to have. You're never taught in wrestling to interlock your hands with your opponent. When people reach out to do that, great, take wrist control and and get in on their legs.
@danieldelanoche2015
@danieldelanoche2015 Год назад
Yeah that never made sense to me at all. Why am I going to play mercy in a bjj match? When people reach like that, I either grab their wrist or I grab the side of their hand which gives an uncomfortable wristlock pressure so they get worried about my grip more than whatever else I'm doing.
@sathyawiltse9829
@sathyawiltse9829 Год назад
My best shot in the nogi is set-up off the mercy grip, so it has some specific uses in bjj. Outside single becomes safer if you hold the mercy grip on the other side and pull them forward with it. If I didn't go for that I wouldn't grab it though
