Have you been only using ところで?
There are more ways to say "by the way" and being able to change the topic naturally will help you sound more native-like!

When I first came across these vids I was a bit arrogant thinking 'i already know how to say this phrase,' but I soon realized how much more in in depth knowledge there was to each. And I always learn something I never learned from any textbook. Moral of the story: no level of knowledge is beneath you. Every new thing learned is a good thing :)

So when I was rewatching the video now, having almost forgotten the details, when I heard about というか, I immediately thought: huh, it's like saying "[Previous sentence]," you can say, or "[Next sentence]"

Same as with verb chains 取って、壊して、走って行った=I took, broke, and ran away. I may be wrong that’s what I understood from the article, also the verb て chains work in a similar way. Great video and lessons as always. At 11:40, for the sentence 「そういえば、駅前の駐車場の料金上げるよ」、 I think might be more appropriate to translate 駐車場の料金 as "parking fee" instead of cost of parking lot which may mean the cost of the entire lot (as real estate). Therefore, something like "By the way, it seems that the parking fee of the parking lot in front of the station will go up". This follows the context that the speaker wants to park his car, and not to buy a parking lot.
