Most people don’t need massive acceleration and in the UK there are very few public chargers that exceed 240 kW. Now this charging rate may be slow in 5 or 10 years but for now it’s fine.

People care about the lack of indicators stalks, gear selector and driver displays omitted from the Tesla M3, so that’s a potential plus for the BYD, if the MY goes the dame way.

BYD don' t have much of a presence in the UK, for the money they are asking I think people will stick with the brands they know, TESLA

I was suprised how much BYD was asking for their cars when launched in the UK. They should have gone down the same route as Kia/Hyundai had done in the 90s/00s. Come to the UK market with a price point people couldn't ignore and had to try. Market presence growth over the next 10-20 years and now Kia/Hyundai are thought of in the same bracket as the German brands.

@@protagonist9716if the price is right. What happens if something goes wrong? Byd needs to have a significant enough presence here in terms of a support network and it needs to undercut Tesla to have a chance. Sure they will sell some cars but most people will still go with Tesla, Kia or Hyundai. There are a lot of other brands as well such as Renault, Peugeot, Skoda etc so byd need to price it in such a way that turns buyers heads to them.

The list prices in China are lower than Xpeng G6 or Tesla MY, and that's before coming discounts. BYD always position their cars a bit lower than those two brands. And rightfully so, they feel a little cheaper as well. Personally I find BYD design too cluttered, but people love them over here (in China) considering how many are on the road. G6 is bizarrely not taking off in sales numbers, and I'd stay away from any Geely/Zeekr/etc. software for now.

In my Country the BYD was start very hard. They got 3 large distributors with excellent service background, and start to build a new factory.. one already here, where they build a buses. Zeekr Xpeng,here is no any business (they are a small startups, compair to BYD), Teslla has just one small service center, You have to wait 2-3 months just a simple check... I already have a seal rwd, may I do not buy Seal Lion 07, but the starting price will 35.000 euro... what is 15% cheaper then Tesla Y rwd.. Inside a Byd compair to Tesla is a diff. universe.. IMHO. ( I'm secretly waiting for Densa z9..if it's available, I'll buy one.)

with the lack of inormation and how byd are drip feeding i have lost interest in the sealion 7 tbh. ive decided on the xpeng g6 but i'd like to test drive it before i preorder but i haven't heard on tasmania test drives. if i haven't heard before their wallcharger offer ends i will go in blind. Also waiting on who'll be the servicing partner for xpeng in tasmania, im assuming cooper automotive or mycar?

I saw the BYD cars at the Everything Electric Show last Saturday and I was very disappointed when comparing to the quality and design against Polestar (apart from the Yangwang)

I was really hoping to buy this car in Europe. I was hypped for the reveal on Maonday but now as details start to arrive I lost a bit the interest to order it. The car, appart from having bigger battery pack has less equipment than the chinese one, despite costing more than the double. The AWD version is expected to cost 53.000 Euros..

The next model Y... the Highland.... will have the same cabin experience as the new model 3. I encourage you to therefore test drive that new model 3 so you know if the new Y will suit you. As to your current model Y's harsher track suspension....I recommend retrofitting it with shocks and struts that have adjustable dampening. By all accounts this makes a world of difference in the ride quality. There are several RU-vids out there about how to do this and the results.

@@StirfriedGerman Yes it has. If it only had complete over the air updates, full self driving, and as intuitive and smooth software interface, I would purchase them. Oh yeah... and if my stupid U.S. govt didn't keep them out with super high tarrifs. Sigh! The only real game in town... at least in the US.... is Tesla. I wish this were not the case. Funny how the US is all about capitalistic competition and free markets until they lose.

It's great to recognize something positive a company or individual does. What is not rational is the fanbois mentality which not too unlike joining a cult. Fanbois can see no wrong in their company crush, or no wrong in an individual they admire, or no wrong in a political party they vote for, and so on. They see any criticism of their cult leaders as an assault on themselves. While this sort of blind loyaly might seem honourable, if we can't criticize bad practices it not only continues but often gets worse. In the case of BYD, thus far their innovation and value is great but their quality control has been lacking.

Agree that byd is falling behind in its digital smarts ( check their position on the Gartner digital automotive index). In terms of tech they have no unique or class leading selling point. Price is where they can beat the others, entry level Sealion 7 for A$50k drive away which would requires lowering price of atto 3. The seal has more verve and style and could be priced equal or above Sealion 7. Byds mediocre iteration of suv coupe is a thinner market compared to the model y, G6 EV5 size SUV. BYD have positioned the phev Sealine 6 SUV as their primary mid size suv in Australia. They dont have anything to compete with Model y and G6 and C10 and Onvo!. The adas tech in byd premium brands needs to gravitate down to the Ocean series or they need to lower prices to stay relevant in this mid size category. Atto 3 is competative for the time being. Dolphin was a missed opportunity due to pricing. Gone are the days when a facelift would do the job and new models could keep 95% same features as old and brand loyalty would underpin sales. With EVs there are ongoing developments in tech which deliver significant improvements in range, charging and ADAS (and soon AI) which are key specifications. Imho, BYD brand loyalty isnt deep enough to overcome a sideways glance at the competition.

This particular model is nothing special, rather for youngsters. Not so much head room on the second row, that's the biggest issue as for me.

That is not it. the Software design is horrible, horrible lcd screens, the car weights like a truck and the car design is not efficient. Peak charge is not that relevant compared with the charging curve and this car definitely charges faster than the 250 peak charge model y.

Well all these China vehicles maybe an alternate choice for international countries, but they are never going to show up in the US, at least not for the foreseeable future. kind of a Political thing between the US and China. So right now, Tesla is the best choice in the US, at least for me, and have the 2023 Model Y, and I like the minimal controls on a Tesla ( I don't miss the fancy buttons and dials). Allot of what I need in the Tesla I can do it through voice control. I have my radio on all the time and set to local news channel. I don't use anything else. I hate going through US greedy Dealerships that have way over priced vehicles.
