I can't wait to drive one. The fabric and suede on the top trim may get dirty. I wish there was a black leather option (or similar material for the dash. Design is great, materials are premium, rear-drive layout should be fun. The inline 6 is tempting, I,m just waiting to see what the mileage is on the PHEV.

I have the same concern and not only that but how will it hold up after a few summers? Will it stretch and sag at all over time? That's the one thing they can't really test with a new model - the long-term wear and tear. I had a 2010 Mazda 6 V6 and it was a great car but after 6 or so years the dash became very soft and mushy. You could scratch a gouge in it with your fingernail.

I just test drove a bunch of cx90s this week and many were black or tan leather and did not have the fabric/suede.

Great very detailed review guys. One thing, I used to own a CX-9 and see the same here, the second row slides forward so when you really need to use the third row there room to adapt to all passengers, flexibility is the key on vehicles this size. I’m 6 feet tall and fit confortable in the third row when adjusting all rows to accommodate all passengers.

Let me know when I can buy the top trim and option in a 2nd row bench seat. Why do so many brands assume families only have 2 kids? I have 3, and I'm not going to put any of them in the penalty box that is the 3rd row (plus, that eats up cargo space!)

@@markhu7454 The CX-60 is Europe only and has different powertrains with much stricter Euro emissions to meet, the North American CX-70 will have these better drivetrain options instead, but we'll have to see how they perform come this Monday when driving review embargo lifts.

Definitely a great looking SUV … and the output across the variants looks pretty strong. I hope it’ll be a catalyst for competitors to keep going w/higher outputs, Toyota included needing to tune their current 4cyl in the Highlander to something giving real power.

But people Buying SUVs are gonna wanna know how much space they have for strollers, how many hormonal teens they can lug around to some sport event. It’s boring kind of review, yes. But Mazda always does a great job making the most fun out of all their models. And for the price this. Just like the CX9. This is going to be a tough car to beat.

I have a ‘22 Carbon Edition CX9 and it has that feature to open the hatch. My son has a ‘22 Telluride SX. When we have 6 people, we definitely take his vehicle. It feels so airy on the inside. I’m 5’10, 210 lbs and I’ve ridden in the third row for a few hours with no issues at all. As much as I love my cx9 for the way it drives, the Telluride is the better people mover. I was really hoping that Mazda would have given us that type of interior cargo space. When my lease is up, I won’t be getting the CX90 sad😢

The third row graphic is cute. In-laws tend to be older though so getting in and out of the third row along with the seating challenges of some of the angles involved probably isn’t a good fit for that row. I want manufacturers to stop setting these false expectations with the seating. These vehicles should read 4 +2, 4+3 or 5+2 like they did for Porsche and Nissan sports cars. That’s a more accurate representation. The CX-90 looks handsome outside, beautiful inside and I’m thinking it should have some of the better driving dynamics depending on where it’s compared in the segment. It looks like Mazda decided to split the difference between the standard and luxury segments. It’s a very interesting option but not one for me.

Did you know that the kick to open feature was on carbon edition, grand touring and signature cx9s for the past 3 years? Also you can kick to close/stop the tailgate. And for those asking, you can turn off auto start/stop.

Love these features: Exterior styling except the rear. Wheel design on the top trim-appears "floating." The inline 6. Captain's chairs 2nd row. Mileage. Hope "auto start stop" can be overridden. Like the interior except small front console storage. MDX beats it in tech but too much tech-many things to go wrong. I want to drive one! 😁👍🏻

I have a '22 Mazda 3 AWD Turbo and that seat belt chime sounds like the end of the world nuclear missiles have been launched. They are allowed to use a less negative chime upon startup them resort to that negative chime once you drive off without your seat belt on. Otherwise, the CX-90 is quite impressive, looking forward to the CX- 70 with same powertrains!

i'd say the honda is more conventional and better for families just because the fact is has a lot more space than the mazda and the controls are much easier to figure out, and the exterior looks much more normal whereas the mazda looks a little odd in my opinion. but if you don't have 2+ kids and like the mazda design, get the mazda

As it stands, while this new Mazda impresses with new tech and performance....any true semblance of a true or even semi-capable SUV with even Subaru levels of rough road ability is GONE. This is just a good touring sedan with an SUV body. and that is okay for some. But for others that want true dual duty? Probably look elsewhere.

See the thing is, even if the CX-90 is honestly a boring on the inside and a bit overpriced, at least it’s made in Japan. The MPG is incredible thanks to it being a mild hybrid across all trims except for the PHEV versions, getting 24 city 28 highway. It’s gonna be reliable, that’s what matters. Everything else basically is nonexistent to us other than Toyota and Honda.

I doubt it since the more expensive CX-90 doesn’t have it at any trim level and the camouflaged 2024 CX-70’s test mules don’t have it either. Still, if any of my local Mazda dealers don’t mark up the CX-70, I’ll be getting a Turbo S trim of the CX-70 when it comes out.

Yes, I know the CX-60 has fake exhaust vents and the CX-60 is the European version of the CX-70, so it might be possible the CX-70 has fake exhaust vents, but the CX-70 test mules pictured in America don’t have those fake exhaust vents like the CX-60. I guess we will see shortly.

They do not provide 360 camera view unless you go to top trim! they do not provide ventilated seats unless you go to top trim! they even don't provide navigation system unless you go to top trim! they don't provide hands free power left gate unless you go to top trim! what the hell for this highly-expected new car!!! The only better thing than KIA telluride is that this car is a Japanese branded, 3-row family SUV. KIA telluride still WINS!!!

They provide the 360 camera for the 3.3 turbo premium plus for 52k, and they do offer hands free liftgate for the 3.3 premium which is at 48k. Idk if "Mazda driver Personalization System" counts as navigation but honestly you could use your phone for GPS unless you don't like it. I do agree Mazda makes you spend a lot for basic things and only apparently 4 trims only have bench seating which might be a no-no for some families.

Sure the Korean options are appealing compared to this, but the CX-90 is built in Japan for one thing. It’s a hybrid turbo inline 6 that gets 24 mpg city and 28 mpg highway (with AWD standard!) across all trims except for the PHEV version which uses a different engine. A 2.5 L 4 cylinder if I’m not mistaken. If you’re a smaller family and want something that isn’t a Toyota or Korean, then this is great for what it is if you can get over the pricing and interior boredom.

Japanese built doesnt mean its "perfect" its all about the quality/reliability of the vehicle parts, Mazda tends to use cheaper parts like torsion beam rear suspension in their vehicle lineups........

It has arguably the best handling and driving dynamics as well, among all brands, despite the "cheap" torsion beam rear suspension in (some of) their vehicles...

@@TheRotorious13b Mazdas in general have good and reliable engines and transmissions otherwise Mazdas lack of pickup trucks and more than 1 hybrid option and EV in their North American lineups make the Big 3 Japanese automakers (Toyota Honda Nissan) better options to purchase with better resale/trade in values and quality vehicle parts .......

Those are some of the key reasons people choose to own their vehicles...especially those who actually want an enjoyable experience vs. an appliance.

BTW, I test drove a CX-90 today. The "low-power" 280 hp version. I can assure you nothing else anywhere near it's price-point will have the same combination of style, quality, useability, feel, and driving dynamics. Watch.

They had an excellent chance to improve the third row, but they missed it. I am a Mazda owner and love what Mazda does with driving dynamics. I was looking up to this vehicle just for the third row. But I will have to move on to Pilot or Grand Highlander. Can't stand Kias and Hundais.

Meh, it's okay I guess. I don't know how to feel about this CX-90. It's got a weird curve at the back and the front looks less appealing imo than mazdas other suvs. The proportions don't really flow kinda looks like a big burgundy blob. Interior is very nice though and powertrain sounds promising ;)

Engine and interior quality wise this isn't even in the same league as a Telluride or Palisade IMO. This is on the more premium scale like the Cheeroke or Durango even tho it has gotten quite old.
