Regarding analytics, there’s nothing for you to worry about. RU-vid is pushing Shorts, long-form videos get less exposure and thus get less clicks. And 2020 / 2021 are not good reference points since everyone was stuck at home because of the pandemic. Don’t worry. Your content is awesome, your channel is doing well and I do believe that your future years have a lot of potential… considering you want to keep going as you said in the video. Hope you have an awesome 2024!
MVG, Mistakes WEREN'T Made. You hold such an authentic and professional role in the retro community; not because you just know so much but you because you have live it professionally. All you need to keep being is you.
As long as you're not doing RU-vid fulltime, I think it's fine like it is. Being 100% dedicated to producing for RU-vid can turn you off quite heavily without even realizing sometimes. Good that you are sticking around and giving us smiles on our faces with fantastic episodes of "Mistakes have been made..." or technical insight videos .. or even go on nerdy on topics (like those the most, as they show your true passion for something). have a fantastic holiday season and definately catching you in 2024. Bye for now ❤
The fact that you brought all of us emulator users together after all these years alone is something that made me emotional. Never change MVG, you are one of the most genuine youtubers i have ever seen.
The layoffs cycle has been terrible for my mental health as well. I'm lucky enough to have remained unaffected, but can't help but feeling that I might be next. It's not fun worming super hard in the day, working overtime at night to make up for rhe lower manpower, and practicing for interviews as night! Thanks for speaking about this!
I got laid off at the end of last year, and applied to more than 3000 software development jobs over 6 months before I landed something. It's definitely stressful.
@@AltarOfGamingIt's the most valuable who are laid off because they demand the greatest salary, which makes them an easy target when the company needs to cut overhead.
All we care about is sharing your enthusiasm for the content you make videos about. Amount doesn't matter, make as few or as many as you want, as long as content creation is your passion we true fans will be here till the day it is no longer ❤
I'v watched everyone of your videos. Big fan. I wish RU-vid would help you content creators more, i wish i could help more too, but being disabled and unable to work hinders my ability to support you guys more then i can afford. i feel so guilty sometimes when you guys plug you're patroen and other donation support sites. You work so hard on your content and I really appreciate it. From me and my family, Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
8BitGuy, your videos are some of my absolute favorites. Sometimes I forget your channel exists, then I rediscover it. I'm always subscribed, but somehow the videos slip by. I always go back and watch the ones I haven't seen though.
I've been an avid fan of your channel since 2019, and I've not found any other channel that does quite what you do. The mix of game/console history, programming, console jailbreaking, DRM history from a hands-on knowledgeable perspective are all very appealing to me. I tend to "ration" RU-vid watching for myself, but whenever I did let myself watch I'd always look specifically for your channel. If it's not fun for you anymore, then don't stress yourself or force yourself to do it. Life's too short. But to whatever degree you still like it and it's just the analytics that are getting you down - those ebb and flow, and it's not something you can always control (corporate interests). I would bet you have countless other fans like myself whose life experiences you've made better by making cool and interesting videos. Thanks for doing what you do and hope you still decide to make stuff!
I hope you have a good off time as the year ends, MVG. The contributions you've made not just on you tube but as a developer over the last couple years have brought me a lot of personal joy. I just want you to have a sense of what you've given to the gamers out there. I can imagine that working in a high stress industry (at the best of times) makes it really hard to focus on the good things happening, but you've really helped create a lot of GOOD in this industry that can really tear people down behind the scenes. I'm proud to say I own games on the Carbon Engine and will continue to buy them as well. You, sir have helped my inner child smile and that's the biggest compliment I can think to give any game developer or content creator. Thank You!
Everyone who's into retro gaming knows The Modern Vintage Gamer. You have one of the very best channels and you make fantastic content. I'm glad you're not stepping away just yet. Love your stuff and always happy to see a new vids. It doesn't matter at all how frequently they come out, they're worth the wait.
I’ve been fascinated with your homebrew videos as I enjoy seeing someone else get so enthusiastic about it, you’re one of my favourites to watch as you don’t over sensationalise the videos and come across professional when discussing things without adding quirky cues and meme dropping and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next
I've been watching since 2018 I think way before he got popular retro gaming is kinda dead now cause I think in 2017 or 2018 youtube had a moment where retro stuff suddenly popped up in everyone's recommendations I've been watching since then
I discovered your channel during the pandemic and I've been a fan ever since. I look forward to your videos the most on RU-vid. I love your content, your insight to the industry, your technical know-how, the way you show average gamers like me how things work, and your passion for emulation and game preservation is inspiring. Thank you for all the videos this year. Analytics aside, doesn't matter what content you make. You have fans like me who share in your passion for gaming. We like seeing you have fun and sharing things that matter to you. That's what ultimately matters to us. I look forward to seeing what you create in the new year. Happy holidays. Cheers.
Your videos have always been quality over quantity for me. They're always of a consistently high quality. Great to hear you're looking after your physical and mental health. Have a great holiday period and a strong start to 2024. 👍🏻
Difficult to have a growing hobby or side project along with the daily pressure and deadlines from work. Keep it up, your content is top notch. Greetings from Argentina
Oh yeah definitely. I gave a business and I can either try to make my business grow, do youtube, or complete chores and live stuff. But I can't do all three, let alone the other stuff.
No worries man, take some time off to be with family and recharge. Your content is amazing, seriously my circle of friends and I regularly discuss your videos and use them as a point of reference as we're big retro enthusiasts (plus the fact that you cover current events in gaming is awesome and keeps you & your content more relevant for us too). I'm honestly glad to hear this isn't a forever farewell, just a temporary one. See ya around, looking forward to more great videos in the future!
Thanks MVG for the wonderful content and informative videos this year. 2023 has certainly been taxing for a myriad of reasons and your content helped make the grind through the year less painful. Have a wonderful end to the year and hit 2024 out of the park!
Mate your one of the good ones! You're among the calm folks out there that isn't screaming at the camera about games! You, Nate and those two English lads on switch up. It's away easier to digest the content from a fella such as yourself. Much love bro! Happy Christmas!
Thank you for another great year, MVG! I've been following for quite a bit now and I hope to keep seeing your videos for years to come (: They were a great help during the pandemic and I love all the knowledge you bring.
Love the channel and love your work; you’re one of the can-count-on-one-hand people who I actually made sure I DID click the bell for. Constantly producing high-quality stuff that’s informative, thought out, and wonderfully researched. We’re lucky to have you. Have a wonderful 2024!
Hey, MVG, just wanted to say thank you, I really enjoy your videos, I've been watching you for the last 5 years (I don't think I've missed a single video as of now lol) and you are doing a really great job. I love your level headed approach and your calm and thoughtful demeanor and measured opinions, which is a rarity these days. Also I want to say with a >700k audience you're really in a good place, considering you're mostly covering niche technical or retro gaming topics. I mean, there are a lot of full time youtubers in the same niche who have much less, so I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep doing what you're doing, don't think about the channel growth too much, you've already achieved quite a lot and I'm pretty sure everything will be absolutely fine.
I'm honestly surprised this isn't your full time job. Your content is excellent but maybe that's the reason it is excellent. You don't have the stress of having to make the videos perform well.
I'm so happy I found your channel! You've most definitely been my most watch channel this year. Thanks for all of your hard work and sharing your love for all things retro ♥
Merry Christmas MVG and everyone else! Take your time to rest, reflect and come back with renewed energy to do the stuff you're passionate about. And thanks for your awesome content over the years!
Hey I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to the more technical aspect of gaming, you really are the apex for my interest in programming. At school I had a litle introduction into programming but really hated it. But you really showed me the more advanced and cool side of this hobby. Currently I am analysing a old MMO (long dead) to understand and hopfully learn C++ programming. I hope you have a great christmas and an awesome new year.
You are definitely one of my favorite creators on RU-vid. Your insight into the video game world, including the world of emulation, is amazing. I wish you the best in 2024! Merry Christmas!
I have been watching this channel for years and can say it has always been a pleasure to see the work you do and how much work goes into your videos! Keep up the awesome work! Happy Christmas from Ireland! 🎄
This channel is definitely in my top 5 favorite RU-vid channels. Thank you for the years of great content, MVG. Here's to a better year for your channel in 24.
Dude, MVG, you're easily one of my favorite channels in the retro space, and you definitely go with quality over quantity. Thanks for making such great content! Just don't scare me with a headline like that! Wishing you and yours a great holiday, and a great 2024!
Your content is amazing and one of the best out there, and it was one of your videos that got me into programming. I hope you keep doing the amazing work you always did and that you have an amazing 2024!
You do your thing man and I can totally understand wanting to make the content you want to make instead of something the algorithm wants you to make. It's all good at the end of the day. Enjoy the holidays and Merry Christmas.
I think its incredible anyone manages to do more than one more thing at once. Afterwork I just feel like sleeping, I can't think of fitting in certification study for my IT stuff past a couple hours on Sunday. Whenever you feel like making videos I will watch it. Anyone free to code projects they love and make creative stuff is a legend to me.
I always learn something new from you about the niche stuff we care about. :) And your straightforward and calm demeanor is always appreciated. Happy New Year, and all the best for health and happiness in 2024!
It's always a joy to see new videos come out from MVG. I love learning about old consoles and ports and how hackers defeated copyright protection. Thank you so much sir!
Fellow Aussie, love the way you go about it, and honestly it's sad that videos like this need to be made. We will always be grateful for whenever you are able to put out a video!
You have a very grounded outlook and I completely respect that. Personally I find your channel to be a no strings attached affair, whenever and whatever you upload I'm down to watch and it's always a good time. Your channel has inspired my passion for modding and I can't thank you enough, you've provided a niche on RU-vid that not a lot of people do. Thank you for all the knowledge and good times you've shared and I'm looking forward to the future. Bye for now, and happy holidays to you and your family MVG
is it so bad to have 50,000 fans vs 1,000,000 fans? You will, no matter what, have a dedicated base of viewers who love to see what content you put out and find the whole channel very entertaining. I'm glad you're having fun and we all hope you continue long into the future.
I use to have a channel with around 100K subs and honestly maybe 5K from those were awesome and maybe 10 who I considered as family, more family then my own blood family ... The real friends are usually in small numbers the others are pretend-a-friend or dead noise ...
If you are trying to do something sustainably, yes the numbers are important. Its stupid to pretend 35 views per video would be motivating. Every publishing endeavor is about number of eyes or number of dollars, or both, without exception.
We have tech companies left and right who thought that results that came from the conditions in 2020 were not only repeatable, but inexhaustible. MVG is smarter than them.(Which I know might sound like I'm damning with faint praise, but it's not meant that way, honest!)
Dude, your videos some of the most interesting and tbf important on video games. I really hope that you get enough views to keep you going financially aside from your main job but I really hope that you keep on doing videos forever. Doesn’t matter if it’s a video a month or more or less, I’ll eagerly await every video of yours. Much love and energy to you for everything ahead. ❤
The great thing about your channel is your knowledge and experience. Loads of retro channels talk about systems and emulation, but you actually know what you’re talking about! Love your videos!
You’ve been so important to me! I wouldn’t be where I am today in my career, etc. if it weren’t for your amazing videos! Thank you for everything you’ve done for this community!
I just wannt give belated happy new year and deliver many thanks to you for all those contents you created in 2023 that added up the energy to keep on my daily life, from Seoul. Please remember that there are bunch of people like me turn your video on after work -and after sleeping my children - to give myself a nice relax at the end of the day. Thank you a lot, 감사합니다!
I wish you and your family a merry christmas and a happy new year. Looking forward to enjoy more of your interesting and entertaining videos next year. Stay healthy and safe.
I have learned so much from you. Thank you for being the archetype of a hacker, a dev, and really just a curious guy that finds answers. Your examples have made me better at my job. I will miss the impossible port series. Thank you for what you have given me.
You should not stop making videos MVG. They are very helpful and you are obviously very passionate about the things you show. As long as you enjoy making videos, please continue.
You are unique on RU-vid. I don't know of anyone else in your line of work who shares their personal and professional take on gaming tech without just trying to sell us stuff. You help break the iron curtain of the gaming industry with insight I could only dream of before I found your channel. I'm glad you still enjoy doing this, because I still enjoy watching and learning. I wish more people like you would take on such a passion project.
I still love this channel, your delivery and sound and knowledge is just great and some times i go back and binge a lot of your content. Hope you have an awesome 2024 MVG!
Just wanted to drop by and express my genuine admiration for your incredible content. Your videos are a treasure trove of passion, authenticity, and invaluable information. Watching them feels like embarking on a deep dive adventure that never fails to captivate and amaze. Remember, your health and well-being come first-without them, there would be no amazing content like this. Please take care of yourself, the community is here for you and truly values and supports you.
To me, your content is on the same tier as Gamers Nexus because of your professionalism and knowledge. I find your content educational and entertaining, like GN, and certainly hope you find the right balance to keep the channel going at whatever level. All the best.
constructive criticism: the reason why i stoppped watching you in all honestly is because of some of the videos have been abit click baity. (like this title). Maybe i wasnt the only one who thought that and thats a reason for your view decline last year.
You are legitimately so consistent with the quality of your videos. I often compare you to the Gaming Historian and for a good reason. Have a good holiday season and see you upon return.
Cheers MVG, pure relatable content for me personally,35 yr old with older cousins who had amiga cds etc, watching your videos brings back soo many amazing memories from my childhood and the technological ride of platforms and consoles that followed to present day, thank fella ,merry Christmas and looking forward to seeing you in 24
I love your content and the personal touch you bring to it. Your passion for games shines through. Taking good care of yourself is crucial to surviving a rough business cycle. It is the best thing you can do and I am glad to see you doing that and sharing it with all of us. It is an important lesson. See you in 2024! Happy new year!
I've been really enjoying your content, all the retro and emulators stuff is great. The impossible port videos are a great watch, especially when you get to talk to the original dev team.
I love your videos m8, dont care much about games, but i know you are very much following the scene in every way…you take it easy m8 and recharge, nothing wrong with that, have a merry christmas and great new year 💪
Your videos have been a staple of my mornings for a good while now. I WFH so as I'm setting up for the day, I throw your latest video on, sip my coffee and enjoy the content. Thanks for everything and all the best in 2024.
Thank you. Thank youm for sharing your passion with us, and doing it with full dedication. As a person who is deeply involved in what I do, I have always admired people like you, similar to me, who, despite the myriad of responsibilities, find time to share what they do, and pass on some of their experience and knowledge to others.
None of your followers will ever be able to forget you MVG. You are a treasure to the gaming industry and fans of. You bring to the table a unique perspective from the standpoint of player and developer with a skillset not often found in the public eye, and we thank you for everything you do. What's going on in the industry (and perhaps the world as a whole right now) is rough, but keep focusing on you. You can't take care of everyone else if you're not taken care of and while I'm sure you are powerfully capable of making some mighty waves in current events - that weight isn't on your shoulders. People will just appreciate you doing anything. Whether that's providing advice as a mentor, being an open ear, or simply standing strong amidst the current. Have a wonderful holiday, and thanks again for sharing with us.
MVG, your content is legendary. Whatever you make, and whenever you make it, your fanbase will be here for you. God bless you and your family in the new year!
Love your videos man, I’ve learned so much about the small details of the consoles and games I enjoyed as a kid and discovered new ones I never had the chance to play. I miss how unique consoles were back then and wish they look backwards to pave way for the future, including preservation. Keep up the good work!
Appreciate the honest commentary. I love your channel and look forward to every video. Your positivity and optimism really motivate an older generation of gamers to embrace what we love as if we were kids again. THANK YOU 🙏
Don't worry guys, this isn't the end. Like many other youtubers and streamers and what not, its the holidays, and people are taking a break to rest, relax, deal with family, etc. MVG Isn't disappearing, but I imagine that unless anything MAJOR in the gaming scene happens, buds isn't releasing a video for the next couple weeks or month. ANYWAYS, Happy holidays MVG and Fans, enjoy your break, and I look forward to more Modern, Vintage, and Gaming Tech in 2024 😊👍
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings about this. It really has been a rough year for a lot of people, and RU-vid seems like a really grueling gig that can get super tiring and demoralizing. Your channel has been one of the good ones, no doubt. Best of luck in your future videos and other endeavors!
You can always tell when a creator rushes a video they don't care about, but with you I've never got that vibe or anything remotely close to it. Loving all the videos you've made this year and I'm super excited for whatever you cook in 2024 😎
Dude nobody is making content like you are. I love your content and I want more of it. I'd honestly also appreciate it if you started going on podcasts and I heard you in other places. The emulation, ports and other stuff you talk about is endlessly fascinating. Just keep at it. KING
Really appreciate your transparency both personally and professionally over the years. Hope you get to enjoy the holidays and start the new year on the right foot.
You taught me how to homebrew my Wii. For that. I am thankful. I always suggest your channel to friends or anyone who's looking to do any homebrewing to their consoles. Best of luck from the UK.
You the bomb bro. I can't believe you do this shit with a full time job. There are very few videos in this genre as you, you're one of a kind. Thank you for all of the wonderful videos over the years!
A bit shocked that your analytics are dropping off. You're without a doubt my favorite channel on here. I always learn something from your videos. I'm going to turn 40 in a few years. I also am trying to focus on my health and fitness. I wish you all the best my friend. It's pretty crazy how much easier it is to put on weight as you get older. It sucks. But you look great though. Peace.
Like he said in the video, he's scaled back making videos and it's become a little repetitive and samey, this really effects the analytics. I've noticed this myself that he's videos are a little less interesting than before. But I hope that next year he'll bounce back
It’s been a tough year for large portions of entertainment/tech, hopefully it improves soon. I’m in a similar boat to you, trying to keep my head down and work while not focusing too much on things I can’t control. I’ve also started to focus on myself and my health. Personally I do rock climbing so it’s let me do social activities and encourages me to exercise. Thats really helped me a lot and I’m looking forward to 2024 and hoping for overall improvements in our sectors and the economy. Wishing you all the best MVG and happy holidays.
Take your time brother! I’m subscribed with the bell so I’ll find your new stuff when you’re able. You’ve taught us all so much we’ll never forget you! Don’t bow to the algorithm; your brand is strong. And THANK YOU for everything you’ve done for the community already 💙
