I ran an amsoil bypass kit in a 6.0L ford diesel that I owned from 2008 until 2024. I never did oil testing so I can’t comment on that. I just ran 10k oil changes with the bypass filter and changed the bypass filter every 60k. I ran it to try to extend the life of the heui injectors, and I think it did that. I sold the vehicle with 338k on the odometer and it was still in great shape mechanically. The consensus seems to be that bypass filter extend the life of your oil not the life of the engine. Basically, you can get the same engine life with short OCIs or long OCIs with a bypass filter. The bypass filter makes maintenance cheaper since you have to do it less often, and more convenient for the same reason.

@@repairvehicle so i agree with you, and it somewhat of a semantic point. It’s just that the way a bypass filter works is by removing contaminants. You can also do this with more frequent oil changes so it’s possible to achieve the same engine life without the bypass filter. In the long run the more frequent oil changes will be more expensive and less convenient. Therefore, the real advantage of a bypass filter is extending the life of the lubricant and saving money and time, all while maximizing engine life. I mostly ran Delo synthetic blend 10w-30 along with archoil and that combination seemed to keep the HEUI injectors the smoothest.

On diesel engines the bypass kits make more economical sense. My 6.0L had a 15qt sump, the OEM filters were $20, and 16oz of archoil was another $30. Changing my own oil usually ran about $120. Before the bypass kit, I was changing the oil at 5k. By using the bypass kit and running the oci out to 10k, I effectively cut my maintenance costs in half. That made a great deal of sense to me. Also, I was only looking to dispose of half as much oil per year which was another benefit.
