Errata:
At 16:50 I meant “Matthew to Revelation”
At 28:21 there is a mistake in the lower third, it should read Dr. Sturz not Sturtz. I also pronounced Sturtz when it should be Sturz.
For Pastor Truelove’s similar video see: • Video
For Equitable Eclecticism see: / jamessnapp
For more on Family 35 see: / marcelofreitasnovotest...
For a confessional text position see: / @wordmagazine
Also on Confessional Text see / @reformedbibliology6800
Unfortunately I haven’t found a RU-vid channel taking the Majority Text position.

@@BiblicalStudiesandReviews I think that would be most helpful. Their beliefs and mindset on Scripture is something I still struggle to understand--and my Greek Orthodox friends are just as mystified by my Anglican Protestant views.

Well done. It takes a lot of digging to get through the common misconceptions and dig through all of the information presented to learn the pros and cons of all of the text types out there from an unbiased viewpoint. I lean towards TR, but I would like to look closer at f35 as I like how that is more representative of what a church would have used. Instead of a synthetic assembled one text from many you get one or maybe two and that's it. A man with one watch always knows what time it is and likewise a man with on Greek text knows exactly what was written. Our abundance of texts is a blessing and confusing at times.

Yes I agree...when you have a very high view of scripture, you want the precise words. Most modern print editions create something that doesn’t exist in any existing manuscript. The strong point of F 35 is the text actually exists in the manuscripts, and they have a EXTRAORDINARILY high degree of agreement with the so-called Majority Text. If this edition existed in a leather bound and portable form, it would probably be my primary reader, because of the value of the apparatus. I don’t necessarily hold to F35 theory, but the base text is a good one, and the apparatus is so helpful.

What I don't get about this subject is critical text supporters seem to be thinking that the Byzantine Texts and the copies following them were lacking somehow until the Alexandrian etc showed up almost implying that God kept some 'critical' copies hidden for centuries. Or even worse, that people using a scientific approach is superior over trusting God already had it right!

I appreciate your highlighting the differences between the TR, Majority, Family 35, etc. Too often will Textual Critics lump these all together as "Byz". The King James Version translators saw the nuances between the variants, and documented some of these in their footnotes and the italics in the text of 1 John 2:23. Scrivener's endnotes in his original printed TR edition are useful too.

Thanks the video is very helpful. I have not been able to buy Von Soden's work, but I did Google it and downloaded it. I know that is not as good as a paper copy, but I wanted to be able to access it. Glad you mentioned Harry Sturtz. I was able to take Textual Criticism as a class in seminary. He taught as a visiting professor. I enjoyed the class and learned a fantastic amount.

Excellent video. Question for you, if none of the textual positions have a text that is perfectly preserved, then how can the doctrine of preservation be true? Thanks and God bless.
@BiblicalStudiesandReviews
@BiblicalStudiesandReviews 2 года назад
There are variety of views on preservation. The confessional text position comes close to a view of perfect preservation. I am still wrestling with this. I would say 1. God has provided manuscripts which very closely approximate the original. 2. We have everything we need to live Godly and faithful lives. Beyond that I’m still working through it myself.

@@BiblicalStudiesandReviews There is an English translation The EOB New Testament is a new translation of the official Greek Orthodox text called the Patriarchal Text of 1904. It is a scholarly, fully Orthodox, and easy to read version that aims at being the text of reference for personal study, devotions, and even liturgical use within among English-speaking Orthodox Christians. This translation features: - extensive footnotes to variants from other manuscripts and alternative translations - information introductions to the books - over 80 pages of appendices that explore keys texts and theological concepts important to Orthodox readers - many illustrations and tables Unlike the OSB (Orthodox Study Bible New Testament) which is actually the New King James version, the EOB is a fresh and accessible translation created within the Orthodox community. @@BiblicalStudiesandReviews I only have a digital copy, but I almost always go to Pickering's text when I want a quick reference on a variant. I like how it lists the other major editions, major uncials, as well as a rough percentage of witnesses for each reading of a variant. Of course some others go deeper, but it's perfect for a quick reference on things (and is easy to read as well, as opposed to some other editions).
