C-130 Hercules Mod: JATO Cargo Loading, High Alt & Tactical Drop Guide | DCS WORLD 

This mod needs to be accepted on more multiplayer servers, its a game changer and needs the exposure to lift it to the next level. I'm a huge fan, did some drops with fighter escort yesterday 👌🏻

"tactical drop" is called low-altitude parachute-extraction system (LAPES). There are some pretty interesting videos out there of failed LAPES drops.

ED pls implement it at least into the code, so it will be available in MP without everyone needing the mod installed. 😩😊

I was a Paratrooper and Master Jumpmaster for over 24 years. A C130 can drop 64 Paratroopers per C130. 120 in a C141.

reminds me of flying RC planes (radio controlled not "RC") we had this saying: "if it is to nose heavy it will fly badly, if it is tail heavy it will fly once.... always check your CG"

I don't get why this isn't being discussed at all on the ED forum's mod section... if it wasn't for the Reapers, I wouldn't even know this exists.

I'm a former C-141B loadmaster, and this is a pretty exciting mod. A couple of points to note, modeling the cargo extraction chute that actually pulls the cargo out of the aircraft would be a good touch. As it is, it just looks like it flies out the back under its own power. Also, the main chutes (there can be as many as three) would deploy well away from the aircraft; consider a second or two delay before they open. Otherwise, it looks pretty good. Modeling the K-loaders and forklifts will be a nice addition, too. I loved my airlifter days. Looking forward to trying out this mod soon. Well done!

FYI Crit Field length is not the length of the field you are at, it is the calculated distance that you can accelerate to V1, reject the takeoff and stop - or continue the takeoff and meet all of the climb gradient requirements once airborne. In order to takeoff safely, your calculated takeoff distance at the bottom must be less than or equal to the Crit Field length. Also, just because you have more runway available than the Crit Field length doesn't mean you are safe to use more than Crit field. That distance and V1 are calculated on the amount of brake energy available ie) if you jam the brakes to reject, your brakes may fade and become in-effective and or catch on fire after you stop. In fact often in heavy aircraft a small brake fire is normal and accounted for. All of this assumes it's modelled, which I doubt.

Cap, you need to.., no, you have to.., no, you must do a tactical drop with the C-130, the next time you guys play "King of the Hill", it'll be so awesome!! Although, they'll probably blow you up before you can make your drop, once they figure out what you're trying to do, probably with a missile or maybe with a T-90 HE round, but that'll look awesome too!!! :)

This is excellent. Being an ex RAF C130-J Propulsion Engineer this looks to be pretty realistic for the cockpit view. Do all the AMU's and CNIMU's work fully? The engine noise sounds more like a T56 rather than the AE2100-D3 though but a big wow for a mod.

Also it is not called a tactical Drop. Dragging equipment out the back of a C130 is called low-altitude parachute-extraction system or "LAPES". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-altitude_parachute-extraction_system

Sweet, now I can see more joint campaigns with TFA with this mod. Now the really cool part is if they can script in a MOAB to be dropped out the back then we have it made. Lol

I live close to a disused military airfield and they used to use it for practicing tactical drops. The equipment doesn't have a parachute but it is loaded on a sledge. It would be good if the MOD included the sledge for tactical drops👍 But hey, I'm not knocking the MOD, it is brilliant - just a future addition to consider maybe.

I'm going to try to edit a Through The Inferno Caucasus mission incorporating the C-130 Hercules somewhere this week. I've got a basic plan set, which would go as follows: There are only a few owned airbases; the majority is neutral. One is for the fighter (CAP and CAS) spawns, the other has spawns for the C-130s, AWACS, Tankers and large support aircraft. The fighters will all spawn on that one airbase, but with limited ammunition, and only A2A weaponry in store. The Hercules pilots will have to fly in everything else, ranging from more A2A missiles and 20mm ammo to A2G armaments and vehicles for Combined Arms users. And there's stage 2 coming into play: Combined Arms. Players with Combined Arms are encouraged to take control of vehicles dropped in by C-130 pilots (which would be players!) to capture more airbases for the coalition, for the jets to use to rearm/refuel. However, the Hercules here will keep playing an integral role and will show how important logistics actually are. This mission however doesn't 100% entirely depend on the Hercules, but then all aircraft will have to land and rearm at the supply base, which is rather far in the back compared to the front lines. EDIT 08/08/2021: I've actually got a testing mission up, which seemingly works pretty well so far, but I'm going to need players willing to test it with me on a larger scale!

Make sure when loading cargo you put heaviest cargo in mid.

So anyone else have a problem where they add the trigger but in Foothold the cargo drops out and dissappears never captures the area.

crazy idea for you cap ake this to a enemy airfield and drop some fiv's on the ranway blocking it from being used.

The first crate was not properly alligned but its fixed since 5.9

Fun fact, he is in a J model which was never capable of using JATO rockets due to discontinued production of the rockets. the last JATO rockets were used on the blue angels "fat albert" C130 during air shows

What are the AI possibilities with this mod ? this will be even more awesome if we can get AI to do these drops as well !! Even if we can't make them do combat drops and just regular drops :)

For some reason, when I drop paratroopers and cargo, it never spawns in the world, even if I'm just unloading cargo while completely still on the ground. Am I doing something wrong, do I need to do something with lua? Edit: nevermind, I didn't watch through the whole video yet, I understand it now.

i only see jettison cargo release i cant find the cargo lock arm what is it called now guys? (Like where do i find cargo lock arm) as it is not there anymore

The drop load needs to be more realistic, but this is an amazing idea to say the least.

Oooh, perhaps a Sunday funday challenge with pallet drops, at 10 ft off the ground

with the weight of just a bradley, i'll start to stall under 140kn and the ramp goes down to the ground automatically if my tires hit the ground. So It seems i'm going too fast for the drop to work, cause it keeps disappearing as soon as it hits the ground. ( i'm getting close to the ground, nice and lvl, just like in the example here)

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm quite new to DCS as a whole. When joining a multiplayer server that supports the Hercules mod, I don't think there's a way to open the mission editor is there? As it's not my server -- so how would I enable this script (or is it already enabled server-side by default?) Thanks!

Could the chaff/flare system be extracted from another aircraft and installed??? I believe they were standard TRACOR parts....

I installed this mod step for step. It will only allow me to play it with instant action and when it loads the fps is super super slow every thing work but it just takes forever is their anything I can do to fix this any help would be greatly appreciated. Also is their a way to play with it in mission editor using the steam edition of dcs not open beta?

When I was in the military I was in 4/25 infantry div. We are a airborne unit and I have seen humvee dropped and the parachute never opened. And it landed upside down. It was the amazing

Flying the C-130 is probably the closest Cap will come to flying a passenger plane in a sim

I know ECM systems, sadly I do not know how to program. EDIT: Grim Reapers If the mod developer would like for me to answer some questions regarding countermeasures systems on the C-130J let me know. I have 10+ years experience working ECM systems on C-130s.
