THE REDISCOVERY OF TIME by ILYA PRIGOGINE
Ilya Prigogine was born in Moscow on January 25, 1917. In 1967 he founded the Ilya Prigogine Center for Studies in Statistical Mechanics and Complex Systems at the University of Texas. Director of the International Solvay Institute in Brussels, he held this position until his death in 2003. He contributed fundamentally in the study of systems far from equilibrium, with the elaboration of the concept "dissipative structures" that allowed the description of systems open. These theories served as a paradigm to explain the creation of order out of chaos.

With the 1977 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and founder of a whole school within the thermodynamics of irreversible processes, the maximum temperature of the meeting is reached, which will culminate in an already historic final debate. After a critique of determinism and the exceptionality of classical science (from which neither quantum nor relativistic physics are spared), Prigogine vindicates the order by fluctuations proposed by modern thermodynamics as the first genuine indication of the reconciliation between the two cultures.
Chance acquires its true role for the first time in the description and evolution of natural structures:
