I never got to play the Command and Conquer series when I was growing up ( I had Civ, AoE/M, and Warcraft instead) so I'm looking forward to trying it out, since I've heard a lot of good things about it.
This is the 3rd time I’ve purchased this. I bought the actual game box with CD’s, I bought it on Origin (and sometimes I have trouble playing it through Origin), and now I bought it through Steam to play on my Steam Deck. But I did purchase more copies of Skyrim, from Xbox 360 and PS3 to Switch, Xbox Series X, PS4, VR and even Steam Deck versions.
Just an FYI for anyone who may require it...if you type 'hires' on the main menu and then got to options, you should see more resolutions available to play (1920x1080 for example). MJ noob should have known and included this in the video
@@shaggyalonso Exactly that. I seem to remember that you have to do it twice sometimes for it to work, so if it doesn't work first time, try typing it twice and it definitely should. You'll know it's worked because it will make a noise 👌
The Steam version with CnCNet works the same with the EA App. Just install CnCNet into your RA2 installation from steam and it'll work the same way. - MJ
Yes, but you can't open it from EA App. Look for the "FinalAlert2" folder in your \Command and Conquer Red Alert II folder. In there is the .exe You can find a helpful playlist on how to use it, make triggers, and edit .ini files for unit modding here: ru-vid.com/group/PLwlPpv3OXxX-6F7WZW9a-wG2WpyHENE0g&si=oNQFH_JRbzfIj2aY - Matt
5:52 in my game I hit "customize battle" and the next menu only has "random map" but "use map" is missing, as well as all those choices you showcased, if I hit "random map" it just takes me back to the previous menu. Have not tried this cncnet client...Im not a tech guy, I read that I have to try the beta version sonit works with my steam version of the game? Couldn't find this beta version at the site.
You'll need to generate the custom map before you're able to use the map. As per the video, the beta version of the client isn't available on the site. You have to select the Beta version in the options and update your client. The client will then update to the Beta version, where Campaign is supported. -MJ
can you do something similar for C&CTS/FS? some one suggested to uninstall my steam version and just go for the version offered by cncnet ...but I wouldn't like to do that since I already have the steam version installed...
TS, TD & RA has been freeware for a while now. To simplify things, CnCNet included a copy with the installer. CnCNet should still work with the Steam versions of those games. If you're having issue, feel free to pop a support ticket in the CnCNet discord. - MJ
ALT+TAB never worked with this game, it wasn't designed to handle that. You play, you exit, then you do whatever else you want to do. Can there be a fix at some point, well not unless EA decides to patch it properly to suit modern systems and modern style gaming. Something I want to know, can I mod this steam version as the Epic store version you can't (at least not working so well) Yes, C&Cnet is pretty much a mod, but I wish to mod myself as I used to back in the day.
Borderless Windowed mode with TS DDraw allows me to alt tab, and a couple other players as well. I'm not too sure about modding, I recall hearing that installing mods on this Steam version doesn't work too well. But if you have the version from the EA App, you can mod to your heart's content. There's been a ton of mods out there. -MJ
yup. Check the minimum requirements on steam to ensure your system is capable to run RA2. You'll also need a good internet connection to play online. - MJ
My graphics seem to be a little “off” as in the text on the menus is bunched together and game looks clunky (I have the old game on a windows 7 pc so I know what it should look like) the video of the game here looks great, why is it running so cluncky on my modern pc? (Windows 11, 4060ti graphics card etc etc???
Are you using CnCNet? It's highly recommended that you do so, as it fixes a lot of these issues. Since the game is 20 years old without any "official" updates, it's normal that some options work for some, and some don't. - MJ
If you're using CnCNet, it'll be in the Maps/Custom folder. I'm not too sure where it'll be saved if you're not using CnCNet though - which is why I highly recommended using CnCNet, it's the easiest way to play RA2YR. - MJ
thankyou sopoooooooo much it was the fact had to change the version to BETA in updater that now allows me to play the campaign in fast mode which am used to.... thanklyou as was unplayable for me :) and my favourite game
If only command and conquer had a modern fps shooter it would have been amazing renegade was a right direction but it looks mostly outdated now. Westwood studios should never have merged with EA maybe they would still exist today. 😢
There is always Renegade X. It's a free remake of Renegade by the guys over at Totem Arts. They're working on a new version called "Firestorm". You can find some trailers on RU-vid - Matt
You should be able to after the first time opening the game. When you first boot up the game, there's an unskippable cutscene. After that, the cutscene won't play when you launch the game. - Matt
CnCNet does allow you to go up to 4k. But players have said that it's too big to play on. units are too small to control, UI is too small to click etc - MJ
The current "native multiplayer" on the Steam version leads to XWIS, which is a super old RA2 multiplayer network. Very few players on there nowdays. I believe the Steam version is made true to the original, where the max resolution was 1024x768. - MJ
