I used to sing this for a cover band and I had to quit singing it because I could almost never get through it without actually tearing up. Just a perfect song. RIP Greg.
Absolutely! I do this and Still... together with Lucky Man (the way he did them on the Don Kirschner's Rock Concert at California Speedway) during one of our set breaks and afterwards I feel near completely emotionally spent. Greg was really a tailor with words and the same with Keith with the piano. And they both left us far too early...
Although it´s sad that Greg and Keith already left us, in the end they could look back at a great career, wonderful and groundbreaking songs and really exciting moments like this one where they played the Montreal Olympic Stadium together with a big orchestra. I guess those moments were the ones that lived in their memories until they passed. And they deserved all of them.
My former wife of 25 years and I found this song together in my CD Jukebox and both enjoyed it and played it often. The Jukebox is gone and our living together is gone however The Memories remain of the many songs we played together on the machine this one being among the best.
At 58 I went back to school to get an Associates in Music Composition. Took a couple of semesters of individual voice training where we'd have to perform in front of the students in the Music department a couple of times a semester. I told one of my fellow students he sounded like a young Greg Lake. He had no idea who I was talking about. I felt very sorry for him.
Saw him playing this live at Boston Garden in 1976 or thereabouts. Amazing. The acoustics in that place sucked, but his voice cut through life a knife. To this day, over 45 years later, this songs gives me chills!
Beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautifully written. Along with Closer to believing and Watching over you, among many more, you have created very inspirational songs that will be listened to for many years to come.
I love this song....well actually I love a lot of his songs when he sings solo. He has a marvelous voice and I love how he picks at the strings of his guitar.

Saw this live in Long Beach. Journey opened, Wonderful, didnt know this album out, gonna have to chase it down. As this tour had a great mix of songs, Fanfare was an aural experience Live too. The squeeze box a nice French 🇫🇷 touch, Ceste le Vie'!
Greg didn't get a lot of credit for his guitar playing, because his voice outshone everything. He was an exceptional player when you listen to his solos ❤
Agree. What makes that even more impressive is that he’s elite in bass, electric guitar, acoustic / 12 string. Hand the guy any stringed instrument, he’s elite. Incredible.
Demonstrates Graig legs, incredible songwriting, and a beautiful voice. What a beautiful song. And how wonderful it is to see keith play the accordion. This was an incredible Concert they’re incredible talent Carl Palmer with a drum solo never to forget. Drummer should see that drum solo.
