Circa 40 years ago, around 1972. This is for all you "older" kamaaina who toiled in the cannery during summer vacation and came home smelling like pineapple. Remember the pineapple burns and your bango number? Those were the days.
The pineapple industry was one of the most important industries in Hawaii.
It provided summer jobs for thousands of high school kids through the years, myself included. This is Part 2 of "Checkers and Pogo ON THE GO" featuring the pineapple industry in Hawaii. We tour the cannery operation in this video. Personally, I used to work the Ginanca machine and carried trays of canned fruit from the packing tables.
