From a 1988 TV special with the Makaha Sons featuring Israel Kamakawiwo`ole. A wonderful rendition of Kui Lee's classic "I'll Remember You" I rediscovered this clip while doing research for a major music awards show.
IZ, you will never ever be forgotten. YOU I'll Remember You, my dear Friend. Beautiful song. Your beautiful Voice is amazing. RIP IZ. From Ontario, Canada
I deeply love Iz. I first got turned on to his music, near election time in 2012, when Tim Russert died suddenly at work. (NBC). As it was announced, the SOUND at the station went out .... and one of the anchors started to talk. She mentioned that Tim Russert had "Somewhere over the Rainbow" (by IZ) in his IPad. I'd heard the song before a lot of times, but never knew it was "Iz". I began to follow his music, and bought some CDs. A gentle giant, taken early in life, due to complications from Type II diabetes, and obesity. (He tried all the time to lose weight, but somehow believed that his beautiful voice would change if he did.) When he passed, he was the only non-political person to have the Honor of Lying in State at the State House, in Hi. Known as god-like in Hawaii, he was a very special (and highly spiritual human being.) I deeply love Iz. :) (His daughter just had a new baby girl! Iz is a /Grand-dude' in Heaven now!) :)
This song brings back memories of my childhood back on Oahu. My life, my upbringing, relationships, my grandparents, school and more. Mahalo for the memories 🙏🏽
IZ you're always remembered and treasured in our heart though time did not permit us to meet you in this slidy world of ours. May you rest in peace. We love you. From Carlota and family, Cebu Philippines
IZ will forever live in the hearts of Hawaiians and many of us on the mainland! God blessed him with a short and beautiful life! God keep him always in your loving arms❤️✝️💖

Something very special about Makaha Sons, with Iz even more special. We are delighted that the Sons have reinvented themselves. Moon is retired, John Koko passed a number of years ago, but Jerome has reformed the group with two other musicians and they use the same arrangements and sound wonderful. There's a concert from the Hawaii theatre in Dec. on RU-vid somewhere. Enjoy.
Iz, I miss you so much, your smile and infectious laugh that will be with me always! When you and your girlfriend and friends would come to visit me in my bar it was all hands on deck to get you all fed. I am touched by this arrangement. I first heard this song when Elvis sang it in 1973 from Hawaii. 10 years later I met the grandson of Kui Lee when he entered my music class. Rather spiritual experience.
please Iz sing this song to my dad in heaven and let him know that i remember him and will never forget my best friend my best mate my mentor my strength my hope i miss him so much thank you for your music Makaha Sons
The makaha sons will always remain in my heart, with all honesty, I play them from the time I awake in the morning all thru the day. Never in my life time have I ever heard such harmony. I really feel there are no other singers that can come anywhere near the singing ability they have. Not saying there are no good singers out there because there are.thry sing so beautiful without a lot of effort.like it comes so natural for them.i cryed the very first time I heard iz sing. Truly and angelic voice, there will be no others like the makaha sons.when he sang somewhere over the rainbow 🌈,, if judy garland was still here she would have to agree iz put his own spin on it and made it his own. Wish so much I could have met them. Here comes the tears again 😭😭😭😭 they will always be in my heart and in my home blaring all the time, love you my sweet brothers.
