Malayalam is in another league at the moment.

I started watching Malayalam movies in the lockdown and trust me watching those movies was like opening a door to a whole new world all together

Haven't seen the movie but the creativity, the passion and the will to make cinema in Malayalam industry is no where to be seen in bollywood. All those who say we live for cinema, my life is only infront of camera etc etc. I have an advice for them, you have a mobile with a camera, what have you done. Only acting for big films with big budget and good money is not passion for acting. 🙏

Mollyood is like that intelligent student with humble backgrounds whom everybody loves. And Bollywood is like that big bully with a lot of money but is useless from within ( the webseries and art movies excluded )

Genre - women as central characters 1)Uyare -Parvathy (Powerful story of a woman who faces an unfortunate event in her life while she is about to become a pilot and how she fights back) 2)Thira - Shobhana (Again a perfect movie for women. Shows the right form of women empowerment ie a lady doctor’s fight against human trafficking) 3)Helen - Anna Ben (Survival thriller, filled with hours of tension and uncertainty) 3)Kappela - Anna Ben (Girl gets acquainted with a guy through a wrong number and the events that follow) 4)Om shanti oshana - Nazriya (Teenage love story of Pooja who has a crush on an elderly guy in her town.It’s a simple but very cute love story) 5)Take off - Parvathy (Story of a nurse stuck in Iraq, later kidnapped by terrorists. Offbeat movie but great for people who love watching all genres) 6)22 female kottayam - Rima (Nurse falls in love with a corporate guy but ends up in jail, realises a few mistakes and takes revenge on the person responsible for her misery) 7)Rani Padmini - Manju, Rima (Two women from completely different backgrounds meet during a journey to the mountains. Travel movie - the beauty of Jammu,Himachal regions are shown very nicely) 8)Godha - Wamiqa, Tovino (Captain, a former wrestler, sends his son Das to Punjab for higher studies where he meets Aditi who is also a wrestler.She eventually comes to Kerala and undergoes training with Captain to become a great wrestler) 9)How old are you - Manju (Ordinary story of a working woman,mother and wife; feminist narrative of a woman in her late 30s) 10)edit * : June - Rejisha Vijayan (June, a teenager, believes that there is nothing remarkable about her. I myself went to the theatre twice to watch it 😬) 2)Mumbai Police - Prithviraj (Police officer’s friend gets killed, he finds the culprit but meets with an accident before revealing the murderer, only to have a memory loss from the accident. He gets reassigned with the case after he’s out of hospital, so he starts the investigation from the beginning) 3)Virus - Multi starrer (The real life account of how the deadly,fatal Nipah epidemic caught grip of the state of Kerala and how the govt, civil service officers along with doctors and commoners fought it and prevented it from spreading across the world.Ideal to watch in the time of corona virus outbreak) 4)*edit - not really a thriller but a mass entertainer, didn’t know where else to place this 😬 Lucifer - Mohanlal, directed by Prithviraj (Political entertainer, events surrounding the death of the CM of the state, brilliantly directed movie. Ps : U can see many illuminati references 😋) 5)Traffic - Multi starrer (Can be called a landmark movie; multi narrative movie, where all the mini stories are linked with eachother ; real life incident of how an organ was carried across two distant districts in Kerala) 6)Drishyam - Mohanlal (Crime thriller, you probably would’ve watched the remakes in other languages but I personally feel you should watch the original one) 7)Joseph - Joju (An ex-police officer who’s good at his job gets called unexpectedly to investigate a crime) 8)edit* : Ayyapanum Koshiyum - Prithviraj, Biju Menon (Police officer Ayyappan is an upright man who always strives to do the right thing. Things change when a retired army havildar, Koshy, settles in his village and the two egos clash.) Genre - Feel good 1)Kumbalangi nights - Fahad,Soubin,Anna Ben (Can’t describe in a single line, just give it a go, u won’t regret) 2)Usthad hotel - Dulquer (Story of a rich, 'born and raised abroad’ guy who gets stuck with his grandpa and his beachside hotel) 3)Jacobinte swargarajyam - Nivin Pauly (This is a film you would totally love if u are someone very much attached to your parents n siblings) 4)Charlie - Dulquer (Personal favourite, story of a hippie girl who happens to stay in a house previously occupied by a hippie guy. Her quest to meet the guy in person is the story line) 5)Maheshinte prathikaram - Fahad (Brilliantly directed movie so much so that later a term itself came into existence, “Pothettan brilliance” cuz the director’s name is Dileesh Pothan. Later remade into Telugu as Uma maheswara) 6)Sudani from Nigeria - Soubin (Heartbreakingly humane story of friendship between a football club manager and a player from Nigeria, the relationship bw the manager’s mother and the player after he gets his leg broken etc; shows the passion for football) 7)Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi aka NPCB - Dulquer (Road movie, extra benefit - you get to see a lot of places in northern India) 8)North 24 katham - Fahad (Story of a guy with extreme Ocd regarding neatness that annoys people around him) 9)Bangalore days - Fahad, Dulquer, Nivin, Nazriya (Story of 3 cousins having fun in Bangalore) 10)Varathan - Fahad, Aishu (Couple shifts from Dubai to a village in Kerala where the girl owns an ancestral house, surrounded by creepy perverts and the events that follow, the last 20-30 mins of the movie takes it to a whole new level) 11)Njandukalude nattil oridavela - Nivin, Aishu (Funny story of a cancer survivor and her family, you won’t even feel like you are watching a cancer story) 12)Action hero biju - Nivin (Extremely funny real life scenarios in a police station showing the busy life of police officers) 13)Anandam - New faces (Story of a college tour to Hampi n Goa. Travel,love,friendship!) 14)Android Kunjappan - Suraj (An old man’s son moves to China for job but sends a robot to do all the work at home.The old man who is a prick in the beginning develops a crazy emotional attachment with the robot and starts treating it like his own boy; offbeat movie, watch if you have a lot of patience) 15)Parava - Dulquer, Shane (Irshad and Haseeb, two teenage boys from Mattanchery, share a passion for pigeon flying, a local game. Genre - Love story 1)Premam - Nivin (Shows phases of a man’s life : Teenage love, college love, and marriage) 2)Anuraga Karikkin Vellam - Asif, Rejisha (Couples can easily relate to this story, the usual everyday fights n stuff like that) 3)Mayanadhi - Tovino, Aishu (Mathan, who works for a gang accidentally kills a police officer and is on the run, but he decides to meet his long lost love Aparna before leaving, which eventually puts his life in danger) 4)Luca - Tovino, Ahana (Beautiful love story of 2 free souls. The guy and the girl dies and that’s how the movie starts. The reason for death is eventually found out from the girl’s diary) 5)Ennu ninte moideen - Prithviraj, Parvathy (Real life story of Kanchana, who unfortunately couldn’t marry Moideen, cuz of Moideen’s death and how she lived the rest of her life single. Ps : Kanchana is still alive) 6)Ishq - Shane Nigam (How a young couple are physically and mentally harassed while seen together at night in a car and how the situation puts their love to the test) 7)Thattathin marayathu - Nivin Pauly (Beautiful inter-religion love story happening in northern Kerala. Well, we can’t help but fall in love with the innocence of Vinod and the elegance of Aisha. I love this movie ❤️ It also gives an insight into the strong secular culture of Kerala) *edit : adding cuz the comments reminded me of some epic movies - Jallikattu - Visual masterpiece, Angamaly diaries and Swathanthryam ardharathriyil. All three are epic movies of Lijo Jose Pellisery I’ll keep adding nice movies that I see in the replies - 1)Moothon - Nivin, Roshan (Strong subject and story which triggers your so called moral compass ticking. The movie has received many awards.) 2)Thanneer mathan dinangal - Anaswara, Mathew (Jaison, a teenager, has a crush on Keerthy, but she does not reciprocate his feelings. To make things worse, he gets in trouble with Ravi, the new teacher who is liked by everyone, especially Keerthy. Funny school love story; Humorous) 3)Thondimuthalum driksakshiyum - Fahad, Nimisha, Suraj (Bagged a lot of awards including national film award. Newly-weds Sreeja and Prasad struggle to cope with their lives and decide to sell Sreeja's gold chain for money. However, a thief steals the chain during a bus journey, adding to their woes.)

I have stopped watching hindi movie. Malayalam movies are the best to call as movie

I've seen almost all movies of Fahad and Roshan so I knew what to expect but Darshana was just wow ! Eclipsing all others by her acting and expressions. I've rarely seen a crying/emotional scene look so realistic.

Whether you hate or love but Malayalam cinema is excellent. Many of Malayalam movies are par excellence and par hollywood. Whether you watch Trance, Uyare or CUSoon and many more. The actors are so natural that they don't look like they are acting. I don't understand Malayalam but love watching the movies

I have been watching a lot of Malyali movies lately and the most i love about the movies are their simplicity and authenticity. The characters have this quintessential girl/guy-next-door looks. I wonder how unlike hindi movie stars, without even a single stroke of makeup, Hair done perfectly, they are so attractive and pleasing..Hindi movie stars must look in the mirror and tell to themselves..It's not about glamour, it's about craft. So, stop giving importance to skin color, perfectly done hair, perfect body and put more effort on craft..

Another good aspect of the movie is, not every single detail is explained in the end. It adds to the realism of the story because in real life, no one can get every answer from the internet.

Keralites don't agree that "now a days malayalam cinema is to next level"... Because they experienced with old vintage movies... of lalettan, mammookka... etc

People comments like : "malayalam film industry is next level now" One question : "have u seen any old malayalam movies"?? As a mallu, this is not the best era of malayalam film industry at all.. People from other states only knows about the films released after premam.. Its difficult also to watch the old malayalam movies.. since the subtitles are not available

The biggest education I see with our country mates is the understanding of Malayalam as a movie industry and not a generic “south movie”

I know Fahadh has mentioned in interviews that his Hindi isn’t so good . But I would love to see Fahadh in a movie directed by sensible directors like Nitesh Tiwari or Vishal Bhardwaj.

I was so mesmerized by the acting of Fahad, particularly in one scene, When Jimmy was telling Kevin about the police knocking on his door suddenly Kevin's eye movement tells the tension and fear. Fahad nailed it.

Malayalam movie Industry dint just bloom in an over night..there have been great movies in its 80s & 90s..nationally acclaimed actors like Mohanlal,Mamooty etc..had given their masterpiece performance during the era which still finds a place in the heart of this generation of cinema lovers..,the content and narration has changed with time..the malayali audience is never gonna accept a big budget movie made with a super star if it doesn't have any content. Movies with an Item song..picturesque abroad destinations without any content is a closed chapter for Malayalam movie industry.It is never a one man show over here ,it is a collective effort of young blood of scriptwriters.directors..Excellent actors.cinematographers..etc that has taken the Malayalam film industry to new heights..a place of its own globally..thought underrated,with the advent of new platforms ..the audience has been growing with each day..It is really sad to hear when people within the country are seeing a Malayalam movie for the first time..but really feel happy and proud the way it has been accepted..this could really be the golden era of Malayalam movies as the Industry have great talented actors like Fahad ,Dulquer,Prithviraj..all the three came with the Industry background earned their place ..not for where they came from.. but for what they had delivered... Bt on the debate of movies made in bollywood vs regional cinema, i'll say the audience is to blame... There were many gem of movies made in bollywood bt the audience completely ignored them in favour of shit offered by big names of bollywood... Ankhon dekhi & Tumbaad struggled to earn money bt on the other hand garbage like Race 3 & Judwaa 2 earned crores... Lets talk abt Sadak 2 only, i appreciate audience completely berating it online... Bt most of them just jumped on the bandwagon of making it the most hated trailer on RU-vid & lowest rated movie on IMDB bt still ignored good cinema like Lootcase & Ram Singh Charlie... So we the audience have to change to bring forth a change

People don't give as much as appreciation to malayalam industry, ppl always talk about hindi, tamil and telengu

This has certainly become the golden era of Malayalam Cinema since the 80s and 90s.What a Captivating thriller..Fahadh is on a different level altogether as usual. Roshan proving to be a topnotch critically acclaimed lead with each movies.But what surprised me the most was Darshana!..Wow,what an actress..She deserves to be among the likes of Paravthy,Nimisha etc. With the emergence of Ott platforms,so many people outside kerala is witnessing the underappreciated yet one of the best film industries in India with its simplicity,realism,content and cinematography..So happy to see others realising the huge potential of Malayalam Cinema.. ❤🔥

Malayali audiences have the emotional maturity to appreciate good content. We have our share of good and bad films. Sometimes, bad masala movies become superhits too(just like bollywood ) But a good movie is almost always appreciated. Here story rules. Rest ( star and budget ) are all secondary.

Malayalam film industry has been giving out excellent content since decades...thanks to online streaming , the rest of the world is discovering this...the excellent comedies such as Hera pheri that priyadarshan remade was released in Malayalam much before..they didn't have the budget of Bollywood ever but the content and story telling is so good

I am just gobsmacked at how the Director put together the screenplay, edited the movie. The visual effects The performances were top notch.. Darshana performance was heartbreaking The only negative I felt about the movie was it didn’t spend much time showing us the blossoming romance between the two main characters.

Just finished this movie, best story, best viewing experience, best actors..

I actually thought the whole time that she trapped Jimmy!! But actually I realised that we need to see the other side of the coin also!!! How gracefully this movie has been shot! I mean a whole movie in an iPhone isn't a joke!

Bollywood cinemas always willing to remake telugu cinemas. Because they believe that all the elements in tollywood will match to bolly audiences. They never want to remake other south indian classics like maheshinde prathikaram, ee maa yu or pariuerum perumal etc., that will showcase the real society. They are only focusing on flims like ala vaikantapuramlo, saaho, pokkiri etc., That will have the essential masala elements.

Marathi movies are also better than almost every commercial movies made in bollywood.

Being a mallu when I watched the relatively realistic films in other languages getting excessively praised, I was quite puzzled as I always felt that there were better films in Malayalam industry that was not getting it's due....glad to know that that's no longer the case.... Long may this phase continue....

What an amazing attempt .. I absolutely have fallen in love with Mallu movies .. simple and yet so convincing and connecting.. Jammy do watch another new Malyali movie which released recently named ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’ - yet another beautifully done movie .. and FYI Bollywood can never pull it off like South industry with good scripts and talented artists..

There is nothing wrong with any film industry, it's all about the audience. If they like good creative movies then the creators will look forward to that. Being a mallu I can still say there are some big budget movies in Malayalam which were mass masala films. But if the making and creativeness is dump then audience will not be looking for those movies even if it is casted with Superstar or Megastar. So the change is needed for the audience mindset.
