Good job. My '69 L-71, which I've owned since 1970, has an aftermarket radio also. Over the years I have had several. Currently the unit in my car is a multi-function radio featuring Nav, Bluetooth, AM, FM, DVD, Sirius XM and a few other different services. The GPS is a 7" screen which is hidden away until a button is pressed. The touch screen works great. Understandably, there are people who love the idea of original but my opinion is "why not enjoy the car"? In the over 50 years I've owned it, many small mods have been made to the point now where the car is so much more fun to drive (for me) than it was when it was new. The numbers still match but the actually driving and time spent behind the wheel are better IMHO. If you treat the car as an "investment", keep it original. If you simply want to enjoy your Corvette, make changes that will improve the driving experience.

I agree with you! In all honesty, I drive the car more than I thought I would and although hearing the engine roaring is a must, I do enjoy some music from time to time. The stock radio (which I still have) was simply not doing the job. I know there are retrofit options but I didn’t want to spend 400+ just for the look and I wanted to re do the wiring myself! I would love to see what you have done to your car! What are some of the worst/best things after owning one for 50 years?

@@c3sgarage ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EQZPzYsSec4.html Lots of stuff! Did all the work myself over the years. Best mod is power steering a la Borgeson and a 13" Formuling Steering Wheel. My "radio" is from ebay and cost about $200. It's fantastic compared to the Delco AM/FM. The GPS comes in handy. Also, my seats are from a '79 with the 4" side bolsters. I do all my own paint and upholstery...or should I say did. Now I'm just too old to do all that stuff. Ignition is HEI GM which is much better than factory mag-pulse. Hooker Side Exhaust. Western Mini-Lite Wheels. Getting rid of the PLASTIC WEAVE flat seats is a big plus. They sucked. Have fun with your car and enjoy the hell out of it.

Loved your video!!! thank you. I have a 79 also and still have the stock radio in it. Love the size of this BOSS unit. Right now with the stock radio I get a lot of static and noise on most of the stations. They make a Radio Noise Suppression Kit you can install, I haven't tried that yet, did you have to install that kit with this new BOSS unit or does it have the noise suppression built into it?

I prefer the look of the original am fm cassette radio. The look of the original looks much better in your vintage corvette. You can add bluetooth to a vintage radio, and could upgrade your speakers. With a good cleaning and servicing it could still sound pretty good, and looks better. Just my opinion.

So, one of my friends suggested the same thing lol I was like wtf. I want to say that the previous owner may have left it there to hold then old radio in place but I guess we will never find out. I kept it just in case I ever find out what it is.

How did you avoid getting a Parastic Battery drain?
@c3sgarage
@c3sgarage Год назад
As of right now, I am not aware of battery drain, it is also worth noting that after turning the car off, the radio resets itself which means there is not energy running to it. Something worth noting is that I use a battery tender for long periods were the car is not in driving, and I do plan on adding a battery kill switch in the near future.

Someone, kenwood, pioneer, ect should still make a quality shaft style car head unit for vintage cars... as some of us are not going to cut up the car to put in a new style head unit...

I have a 1981 and in 1990 the previous owner cut/removed the original three connectors to install a JVC cassette radio wiring harness. I order the original connectors and will be installing them today. I purchased a new radio that is retro in style that has Bluetooth ($350.00). When I ordered it I had to indicate the year, make and model. They sent the adapter that goes from the three original connectors directly into the back of the new radio. Everyone is different and so are the cars - my preference is to keep it simple and original.
