Yep, I understand you guys across the Pond have a few more rules regarding making your old cars roadworthy. Makes me wonder how in the world Ferraris and Lamborghinis ever get registered😁. What your attempting is definitely workable. Just go slow and take your time and you'll be able to get quite a bit of space between the frame and body.

@@VetteSource historical Autos in Germany get away almost free. Very low road tax and exempt from most inner city emissions limits. Any alterations beyond those allowed mean it is subject to „normal“ auto regulations. When the road tax is a function or displacement 6 or 7 liters is eye watering for a road tax. But if nothing else Germans lover their rules and regulations. To keep the „H“ historic designation it must a factory paint scheme but after that any alterations made that were from the same series and „commonly made in the first ten years“ can be accepted.

Wow, that is interesting. At least they allow for some variances to your car to suit your own personal tastes.

Hey Rob, thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed it👍. The later 79-82 seats will physically fit in the space of the earlier cars, but the later tracks have studs that go through the floor as opposed to nut plates that they screw into from inside the car.

Yea, that one is a bugger to get to with the front clip on. You mentioned the bolt broke. If that's the case you're in luck because it's a through bolt with a nut on the bottom side. I would put a jack under the very front corner of the birdcage under the door on that passenger side right behind the fender and lift just a small amount to see if the body will move with the jack. If so, problem solved. Let me know how.it turns out👍.

@@VetteSource Thanks, I'll try that. But, with that much rust to the body bolt I'm going to have to look closer at the bird cage. There may be severe rust damage there.

@@VetteSource Well, I was able to get a saber saw with a metal cutting blade on the bushing. I FINALLY cut through the bushing and bolt and was able to free the body. Whoa, I don't want to do that again.

That's a tough one for sure. What I do first is place the jack under the rear edge of the rocker/birdcage and see if you can get the nut plate and bolt to break free. Sometimes it's rotted enough a little pressure will break it free. If that doesnt work unfortunately you'll have to get creative with the sawzall and other assorted cutoff tools.

Hey Rusty, I actually go low tech and use jack stands under the rocker channels front and rear when the body will be stationary for awhile. Remember to also support the front clip under the impact bar/frame extensions to keep from adding any additional stress to the cowl to front end bonding strips.

Thanks for the valuable feedback. I've owned this car since '88 and it was my daily driver for 10 years. I never knew until I started taking it apart that it had been wrecked by the original owner. Now I see paint overspray, missing nuts and screws and several things that shouldn't be there had this been the pristine car I was promised. Needless to say I'll fix everything when I put it back together but I am concerned about the front clip since it appears it was damaged on the front driver's side and is probably weaker than it should be. I'll try to strap onto the front impact bar when I make my lift. Another question... is the L48 engine worth anything? I've ordered a 383 stroker and was planning to just scrap the old engine.

I would definitely hold onto or sell the old L48 engine. There will be some Corvette specific pieces that someone may be looking for if they are restoring their car back to original. What part of the country are you in again? I may have some contacts close by I can put in touch with you.
