I did the razor blade to our C3(1978) and it took me 6 hours so far. I only have the hood, doors, t-top/door jams and under the lower body line on the front clip to finish. Paint came off like butter.
Also found out you are not supposed to use bondo on fiberglass because bondo and fiberglass swell and shrink at different rates. However. The car look great! Good job.
We used the razors only on the front clam, the paint there was flaking, but from there back, there weren't any cracks in the paint, so we didn't think it was necessary to remove it fully. Once you use the razors, you want to sand since it doesn't leave you with a perfect surface sometimes.
I have stripped the paint off of many 2nd gen Camaros with a razor blade and found the same brownish primer under it. Lacquer based I would assume. I guess if its old enough and cured its ok to paint over it.
Nice Video. Thank You, I have a 1979 Corvette original paint, not sure if it has gelcoat. Do you recommend using a paint stripper for a fiberglass body to strip the paint?
Hey man love the video. I’m restoring my c3 also. Paints chipping and shit. Have you tried paint thinner before? Seen an older guy do it. Not sure what method to do on mine
Chemical strippers will destroy your fiberglass. Good ole elbow grease is the best and safest method. Unless you like taking risks. If you want quality, use patience. If you want shit, then hurry through it.
You should have removed all the paint to the base not only the top of the fenders! Always remove side markers and lamps before sanding. Your music is far too loud and overdubs your talking. .
@@zerolash406 the way I look at it is that Corvette restoration is a expensive task and joking around may lead to costly errors. After the restoration is complete, go ahead and party-on.
