Hey Mike, your video helped me with my wiper issue. I had seen several other videos but were NOT as helpful and detailed as yours, kudos to you. My problem ended up being the ground wire on the tach was disconnected. I tested the wiring, the motor fuses and all were good. But following your methods helped. Many thanks and keep up the great videos. Cheers 🍻 Frank

I was dreading having to figure my wiper problem out, or paying to have it fixed.- The cowl opens, but the wipers don't function. Now that I understand how the system works, I feel confident in trouble-shooting and fixing this myself. Great video and explanations of all the functions.

Something else to check. If the pump is not shutting off after one rotation, check or replace the nylon wheel. The ridges wear down and wont direct the small arm riding the wheel and after the rotation wont go back into the lock position. I learned that and it took hours to figure out after dissecting about everything in there but that. If you have gone that far to take the motor out and apart, don't forget to also check that the nylon wheels ridges are not to worn down. Actually you can do this without removing the entire motor by taking the covers off. Luckily, I found another GM wiper motor a friend removed and replaced on a car and kept the old one sitting in his shop for years. Did not fit or mount on my 69 vette, made for a different car and year, but what it did have was the same nylon wheel and it fit perfect on mine. That at least solved the pump issue. I eventually just gave up on the whole motor a few years later and all the little problems it had and got a new one, a bit pricey for sure. Solved all the issues. Sometimes it just pays to realize and admit something is just worn out and get rid of the headache.

My pump is always sticking for a few cycles. Sounds like the nylon wheel is probably the over cycling issue. I love reading comments. you guys always have great input. Thanks for watching and sharing some great information!

Great video on how this whole system works. On mine the metal grabber is not moving back and forward at all, even with the wiper working fine, so I am guessing something has broken off inside it and I will need to remove the whole thing to check it. Thanks for putting this out there.

Also , i got lucky that the solenoid switch is in good working order ,as they discontinued manufacturing it, according to Corvette Central in Michigan.

I have noticed more and more the manufacturers not making and restocking some C3 parts now. Hopefully we start to see some of the out of stock parts make it back into the market this year.

I have watched your video and love the detail. I have no power under the hood nor at the wiper switch on my 1971. The fust has power on both sides. I am not sure what year vehicle your video is on and wonder if it is the same for a 71. Using my inspection camera I do not see a solenoid on the back of my tach. Do you know if it is in a different location on a 71 or am just missing it. The issue started when I removed the factory radio and had it upgraded and reinstalled. Thanks
@33milegarage34
@33milegarage34 Месяц назад
Our corvette is a 1970 so it should be the same. The electrical side of the wipers are a grounded switch system so if the system worked before the radio install you would want to go back and inspect all the ground wires and connections, it’s easy to break the ground wires and pull out the connections while installing a new radio. It’s also possible at some point the actuator got bypassed and removed. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps out.

Hi Mike - great video. Question: my door safety switch appears to be functioning, but I’m not getting 12v from the horizontal pin inside of the plug. Fuse is good - any ideas?
@33milegarage34
@33milegarage34 7 месяцев назад
Sorry for the delayed response. I had to do a little digging on my car to answer your question. It’s possible that the wire is corroded or broken in the rubber boot. Try testing before the boot connection. If you’re still not getting power before the connection you will need to test the hot wire back to the power source. Thanks for watching!

Mike, I have checked the fuse and it good. If I am not getting to 1968 corvette wiper door solenoid switch (2min 53 seconds on the video) what would be my issue? Thanks
@33milegarage34
@33milegarage34 3 месяца назад
So no power to switch means your going to inspect the wire for corrosion or a break in the connection. II use a test light or my multi meter to trace the fault back. You can also test to see if you have power going the horn relay that may indicate a bigger electrical problem. That’s for the comment

Hey Mike, my wiper problem is that i do not get 12 volts to the plug right after the switch that is activated by the wiper door, i am talking about the red wires with the white stripe. I open the wiper door manually to activate the switch but no voltage. Wiper switch is good, fuses are good, everything is ok but still no 12 volts. Any suggestions? Frank
@33milegarage34
@33milegarage34 2 месяца назад
So no power to the plug . You will need to start un wrapping and testing the wire until you find the break or short. It’s a bit time consuming but not that bad. Most of the time the wire coating is damaged and the wire gets corroded and fails.You can jumper past the switch to test the rest of the system. But please go and find the break or short. Electrical shorts have burned up so many nice cars. Thanks for watching and good luck!

Great job! Very informative. My problem on my 71 is that when switching on wipers, wiper door will not open. Nothing happens, but if I use the override switch to open wiper door, it opens and wipers work. I am at a loss. Any suggestions? Thanks Frank C.

Thanks. I try to share as much information as possible. Not sure if you started testing but with the over ride working I would start with the easy stuff first testing power to the wiper switch in each position if that checks out next would be to check the vacuum solenoid under the dash. Let me know what test fail in video and I can try to help find the failure point and the fix.

Great video. I am not getting 12 volts on both pins at the solenoid. Just the one side that goes to the fuse. I believe the blue wire is the one not getting 12V though on my car this wire is black. So when everything is hooked up, the door opens and stays open. Any suggestion?
@33milegarage34
@33milegarage34 3 месяца назад
Sorry for the delayed response. I have few ideas here. First try grounding the solenoid, the dash ground commonly fail. Next check the wiper switch, that can ground power to the blue wire. Wiper Switch off blue wire will have 12v, wiper switch on blue wire should have zero volts. Bad wiper switch or poor ground can be the issue. Thanks for the great question and watching.

@@33milegarage34 Thanks for the reply. My car is a 68 so I expect some of my connections to be different. A prior owner had worked on the wipers and everything was hooked up wrong or disconnected. The connector on the switch was put on backwards and the solenoid was dangling. I got it all working. I didn’t screw the solenoid back on to the tach. I left it hanging and ran a separate ground wire for it. Everything works now thanks to you , other RU-vidrs and a good elec diagram.

Hey Mike, great video. Im trying to fix my wipers at the moment. My problem is that I don’t have any ground to the blue cable into the motor. Do you think that could be the control switch inside the car? I was hoping I would not have to take it apart. Also, my pump was stuck and I’ve cleaned it up and lubricated, but the sliding lever that moves the pump piston seems to be very tight and takes a fair bit of force to move back and forth with your fingers. Is that normal?
@33milegarage34
@33milegarage34 3 месяца назад
Yea. I would check the switch first. Make sure the switch and body have good grounds when testing. If the switch checks good. Check the motor ground next. That is assuming your wiper door is open with switch made also. Good luck and thanks for the question.

On my 71, when I switch the wipers on, nothing happens. But when I use the override switch to open the wiper door, then the wipers work. The wiper switch has no affect on the wiper door. I am confused. Any suggestions? Thanks Frank

Sounds like the vacuum actuator under the dash might be the issue. It might be getting a signal from the switch but the actuator is not opening or the switch is not sending the signal to the actuator. Hope that helps you out! Let me know how it goes.

@33milegarage34
@33milegarage34 Год назад
A vacuum actuator opens and closes the wiper door. You could have a vacuum leak , electrical issue, bad actuator or the door could be seized. You can try carefully moving it manually to rule out a mechanical issue then move to the possible vacuum and electrical issues . Hit me up with any questions when you tear into it.
@michaelragan5799

@@33milegarage34 has to be vacuum leak. When car is shut down., door closes as air leaks out or if I apply light pressure to the door. Soon as car starts door opens and is firm to pressure

Hopefully it’s just a vacuum hose, easy fix and not the diaphragm in the actuator. They can get expensive. Thanks for watching!
