If you're planning to keep the factory style independent rear suspension setup look for a rear end out of a C4 with a manual trans because then you'll have a Dana 44 instead of the Dana 36 that the autos come with . Eckler's in Titusville carries them in their catalog along with some of the other Corvette parts suppliers .
@@DriftHQ This. Also, I would make sure to confirm the final drive ratio. Some of the D44 ratios were pretty tall. I believe the shortest from the factory was 3.54, but I'm sure there is plenty of after market kits for them if you want to put in 4.11s or what not. Regardless the D44 diff is a great piece. All the best, Luis
@@TacoRuns Did you not read my comment before spouting off . Their stock rear end would be a Dana 36 because all of the C4s with an automatic came with that rear end . A C4 with the 4+3 trans came with a Dana 44 . Guess how I know . I'll tell you anyway . Because I own one that was a factory , but the trans sucked too so mine now has a TKO 600 and a DTS built Dana 44 for with a Detroit Tru Trac and 3.73:1 Dana gears . Nough said ?
dana 44 diff can be geared pretty much however you want, theyve been produced in various forms since about 1950. massive aftermarket, and theyve been used in other oem performance applications.
I first discovered Bjork's build about a year ago. It's so cool to see that DriftHQ is building JapVette 2.0! This is definitely a dream build, and I can't wait to hear that RB purr underneath the hood of this beautiful C4! Super rad that you guys are working with Bjork on this kit.
Bjork’s car is easily one of the most original builds in 10 years. If they made an 80’s anime of Miami Vice set in the future… it would be the hero car.
@@Steven-rg4bo because thats how badly i needed the money and my dads an asshole he didnt want it in the driveway because we had 2 other vetters in garage
I think it's really dope how much you guys interact with your subs always replying to comments is a real OG move wow I was totally wrong about the engine I really thought Adam was gonna give up his rotary to make this thing really weird but RB is very different
Adam! I know you see this! Porsche 944 Drift car to complement the C4??!! Squad style! Come on LZ! 💪💪 Keep crushing it Drift HQ 👌You guys are keeping us on our toes!
And the 205hp was 84 only with the L83 crossfire that was carried over from the 82 C3 The L98 was from 85-91 and was about 230-245hp depending on year. Then the LT-1 was 92-96 at 300hp and LT-4 in 96 manual only at 330hp. And of course LT-5 ZR-1 motor from 375-405hp was from 90-95. Anyway. Not a purist here at all. I love this project. Just clarification.
@@DriftHQ I saw, made me wish I watched to the end before commenting. Good choice to start with a cleaner car. The small stuff adds up quick. More enthusiasts need to learn this. If we're not talking $100k classics, another few grand on a nicer car, usually can buy you double triple that in parts and time.
The drift HQ green in that car with black details is gonna be something to admire and best part the interior matches the green this build for me is equal to adams R34 and collets Rx7 interns of potential and hype for me in my humble opinion And do you guys have plans on building a GTR any time soon because I would love to see a R33 with the Drift HQ charm and making that car green or orange like the drift BMW of yours would be awesome and original then the LZ compound would have almost the complete generation of JDM legends
As soon as I heard a Swedish body kit that only be the 2nd ever I instantly knew it was going to be “By Bjork” especially seeing him mention Adam LZ on his Instagram.
Just tell me when you've got an angle kit sorted, I'm ready for my own. When it does get beat on, I recommend an underframe cross brace and leaving the targa top on as it is structural.
I jus started a c4 project about a month ago. I could only wish it was this cool lol. I jus got a 40 over small block to go in. Aluminum heads an goin to try to go back fuel injected
I love all the Corvette expert engineers in the comments. From rear differential specialist to engine designers. I guess that's why there are so many Corvette repair shops on every street corner. Keep the "expert" advice coming!!!
love how Chris is just so chill about everything....hes like ya we'll just do this and do that and it'll all be cool ..respect to ye all 🙏 some wicked builds in the process...👌🤙
Made me happy to see the the body of the c4 strapped to the lift was wondering if we woukd see a wobble or possible fall off. Fantastic foresight looking forward to the build. Never thought id be happy to see a c4
Why not repower one of the golfkarts with the original driveline, delete the tailshaft, direct bolt box to diff, exoskeleton for safety, think shartkart. Or find a broken keitruck, mid mount the combo, zoom zoom zoomies!!!
I own a 1993 C4 corvette. I removed the LT1 and auto trans. I removed the rear end and changed it with a Dana44. I then installed an all aluminum 427 big block chevy with a 4L80E transmission. Best thing i ever did to my corvette!
That is a 1989 roughly. It had roughly 245hp. The 1984 Cross fire POS vette (carry over motor from 1982) had 205hp. They weighed only 3200 lbs. At carlsbad with a clean tuned 1985 vette ran a high 13 and with simple air foil, exhaust, gears and traco chip ran 13.2's. Not bad for all under 300hp. These cars had their own race series back in the day , the Escort series because the only competition to ithe vette on the track were other vettes. The last L98 was 1991 putting out 250hp then 1992 was the 300hp LT1. I would , however , get the dana 44 rearend out of a stick vette from those years. The Dana 36 with the auto will not hang with the power increases. Shorter driver shaft as well.
Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with for suspension components. The C4 suspension has been kinda popular in domestic restomods for the last decade. I transplanted suspension from an 88 vette onto my LS swapped Mighty Max.
Reading the other comments, I know you guys have been informed on the Dana 44 now. But for some more info, most of the Dana 36s came with a 3.07 and some others in the mid 2.50s-2.70s range, just depends on options of course. With the Dana 44, the earlier ones came with a 3.07 ratio as well, I believe 1985-1991. 1992-1996, most of them had 3.45s and another option of 3.54s. No matter what year C4, all autos had the Dana 36 (and manual ones too ONLY in 1984), and then in 1985-1996, all stick shifts had the Dana 44 with 3 different rear end ratios. Of course there are aftermarket gear sets you can get to change the ratio if you would like, think I have seen people run all the way up to 4.10s or so in them. Also, pretty sure they are all LSD type diffs, I don't think any C4s had open diffs auto or manual. Hope this info helps.
I know you’re gonna cut it up don’t have a problem with that I’m stoked for this build but just curious if you wanted to save the body instead of cutting up good fenders and what not could t you get replacement panels and cut those instead. So say some where down the line you wanted back to stock you could with out the body being cut Idk I’m dumb when it comes to this stuff…… Most things actually Also I think we need a vs match TJs mustang rb vs c4 rb
Could put a t56 out of a 4th gen fbody in it. They have a torque arm set up in them with a low profile trans mount and from what I saw Kenny slides do in his I'd say they slide pretty alright 👍
Tpi, I think 240hp. Camaro had a 305 220hp and I think both Camaro and vette 350s are 240, maybe more for the vette, don’t remember. I’m so glad someone else noticed it wasn’t an LT
If y'all buy another c4..buy 92 -96..you would be able to use better suspension like bars..arms..coilovers from Van Steel..which is in Clearwater Florida...I bought a lot of parts from them for my C4 a couple of years ago before I went to a FRC C5...Enjoy..they are great cars with a good open wheel set up and good rear suspension adjustments...🏁👍🏽
How are you going to top Bjork’s white 3 spoke wheels?! It’d be cool to see a modern take on the “Sawblade” or “Salad Shooter” wheels that originally came on the C4 *PS. Kenny Loggins for 80’s inspiration at 2:45 ⚠️Zone
Great choice for a platform fellas. Excited to see where this goes. Early 90's C4 on my list to buy this year. Looking forward to that body kit. I saw your last video saying you were possibly going to be selling it stateside? Is that right? Definitely want that kist for my c4.
For the differential you can source a C6 Z06 rear diff and some drive shaft shop axles and use the rear spindles for the wheel bearings or if you want to take on the fab project you can source a 8.8 or 9in newer rear diff from a mustang or if Adam still has the parts gt350 take the diff setup out of that car. And I guessed the engine would be a RB which is gonna be a great choice for this car. Can't wait to watch the progress
I think he deserves a much shitier Nick name than chicken little that lz video was so funny the other day when he put rudniks face in the painters ass crack every time it would have showed
Nah the 205 hp engines were the crossfire 350’s in 83, the engine that car has is a 350 tpi, which makes 245 hp but the intake design makes way more torque (325 I believe) and they fell off hard up top. But loving that people are giving c4’s the love they deserve now!
also it's not a LT1 nor a L88, LT1s were 93up and 300 hp (with the problematic Optispark). L88s were highly coveted big blocks in the late 60s, this is a L98
@@elliottvader2377 was just happy to know a very small bit of info such as the L88 vs L98 bit lol. GM makes it difficult of course reusing designations all the time instead of letting them live in their historical glory
I kept my tpi 350 put a cam in and a Holley terminator x plus a few minor mods like airfoil and ls1 injectors plan is to have fun with the 350 while I get all the ls stuff ready and when it’s time I already have the ecu trans and engine harness
Idk if you're going to be getting into it on this build but I always thought some 240 or fd rx7 taillights would look sick with the body kit you are doing. It would be some work but you got the skills! Just figured I'd throw that out there.
If you guys decide to experiment with a different rear diffuser setup for the newer bumper on the C4, let me know! I love the By_Bjork body kit but I prefer my rear bumper, more aggressive diffusers, and a chassis mounted wing (maybe with the struts resembling the shape of the F14 tomcat tail?) My imagination runs free but I have no way to make it a reality! Not yet at least 😏
