If I lived in New Zealand then yes. I live in Texas so I guess we are use to more open space. I do the Texas Mile event every year. C6 Z07 Texas Speed 427 longblock. Callies Crank and rods,Diamond pistons, RPM level 6 tr6060. Vortech YSI, 911whp at 10 lbs of boost. 1988 Callaway Twin Turbo C4.
My father whom just passed away bought a 95 ZR1 brand new. It was the car I learned to drive manual in. Unfortunately it was destroyed along with everything else when our home was leveled by an EF4 tornado. I’m thinking of selling my Callaway to buy a C4 Zr1. We live not very far from Hennesey Performance and my father always wanted to twin turbo it. So I’m thinking of picking up where he left off. Or possibly creating a 415 stroker out of the lt5. It’s just an insane amount of money. Almost double what I gave for my 427dart ls next2 long block.
One of the fondest memories I have with my father is our weekly trip up to 180mph. We have almost endless roads that are almost perfect for top end runs. I still have his old ZR1 registry sticker. Life begins at 180
As a car enthusiast let me start off by saying “HOLY CRAP” !!! “THAT WAS AWESOME”!!! That actually got my heart beating pretty good, I could only imagine the rush I would have riding IN the car on a run like that. Driving next to the tree line really looked bad ass! Hats off to the driver, that was impressive! I don’t believe I would ever have a chance to have an experience like that, because of videos like this one I’m able to do it vicariously. Thanks for the video.
I have watched both of these videos, this one and the other one that shows it from a bystanders view. Without a doubt these two videos are the very best example of a high speed run and the sound of a hot V-8 engine. Absolutely superb!
@@glencollins4962 That exhaust sounds at least 50% than mine! Nice work! I've been wondering if a C6 zr1 exhaust could be re-worked to fit on my '91. Whats your opinion?
@@lukehelpmetakethisdangmaskoff I have dump valves at the rear that's why it sounds so good push a button and it's quite I have factory mufflers so no drone when driving
Yeah it was the first step out of the automotive dark ages and into the modern era. It’s not my favorite generation but it was the biggest improvement generation to generation-wise, the C3 was a bit of a mess.
Sounds like effing NASCAR, love that high revving V8 sound. Honestly a stockish spec C4 ZR-1 racing series with that DOHC V8 would have been effing epic. Its been proven that motor loves to rev and holds several at the time endurance records for a production car maintaining its top speed for hours on end.
First time I've ever heard a C4 ZR-1 engine wide open, all the way to top speed. Beautiful noise. The car was very stable, too. I read the C4 was actually developed to be aero-stable up to 200 mph. You got up to about 185 mph, right? Looks like the Corvette engineers did a good job. The original ZR-1 engine always gets lots of praise, but the rest of the C4 is way under-appreciated, today. Thanks for posting!
@@glencollins4962 BAD ASS CAR. THAT’s what I am talking about!!! I’m 41 and joined the USAF 🇺🇸 back in ‘02 and have been overseas ever since. These were the types of cars the drivers needed skills AND courage to pilot at those speeds...Sure modern BMWs, Mercs and Audis are just as fast...but without any real passion, not really ‘soulless’ but ‘ sterilized. 155mph+ in an M5 is ‘subdued’ where as in a vette or WS6 or even...dare I say it...an early 90s Porsche just have a RAWNESS to them. That sound MAN!!! Bad 2 the BONE 🦴!!!
The C4 is my dream car. Last year I bought a new 10 speed 5.0 at a great price, but I will own a 92-96 C4 one day. They are beautiful, timeless, and the car I wanted for so long. Thanks for sharing.
cv 67 well thank you. Its a nice color, its going to need some love right now the car didnt run well in ”full power”. Some injectors were bad and also some coil. So decided to start a little project now. So it will get some love.
Wow, that engine sounds amazing! Great job on the homemade exhaust! Where was this filmed? It is so cool to see because I've always wondered what it would look like to go flat-out on a backroad like that, at 180+, and see everything rushing by. It gives you a sense of just how fast it is. Glad I found this video, it is a gem!
Somebody is gonna say it. Might as well be me. That ain't how you down shift bro. It's called Rev matching for a reason. Also... the balls on this guy. That kind of speed... no cage... damn squirrel cross the road and instant death. Fml
@@glencollins4962 I know that's sarcasm but I'll play along as I'm just sitting here riding to work.. for those that don't know... you Rev match when you down shift for two reasons. One so that you don't shock the rear tires. And two so that you don't shock the power train. Rev matching when downshifting is simply matching the rpm of the engine to the wheel speed. Simply, if you're running 60 mph in 5th gear and you want todown shift to 4th, you want to blip the throttle to match the rpm you would be at if you were running 60 in 4th. Quite simple. Better for clutch. Eliminates accidental lock up. Less stress on powertrain and drivetrain. Now, I wasn't berating the guy. I actually was complimenting him for being brave enough to make the run under those circumstances. But as far as down shifting, revving the engine, letting the rpms fall back down, then dumping the clutch and having the rpms shoot back up..... well that ain't the way its done. You do it right, you only hear one Rev. This concludes today's lesson
That road just goes straight forever, wish we had something similar around here. I appreciate how he never touched his brakes he just down shifted using the engine to slow the car down to a crawl.
Yeah I think GM definitely knew what they were doing with the body shape and the aerodynamics. I think it's still interesting that it is the only double overhead cam engine put in a Corvette. Figures GM didn't make it either, they had Lotus design it and Mercury Marine I believe make it.
That's movin! I had a opportunity to run my 04 Z06 and was able to go 148. Had I known the course or had a 2nd chance I'd have gone 160+. My C5 was rock steady and I'll never forget it.
Hi I did 6 runs on this occasion every run faster and further though about a C5 Z06 didn't feel like my ZR-1 at all you need to find an event and have another go at taping your Z06 out
I LOVE those stearing wheels, came in firebird and Camaro's too. I like them because it's relaxing pushing them in they are nice and squishy it's like popping the bubble plastic " in a sense "
This was my "If I win the lotto" car when in production. Of course I never actually played. lol. Regardless, you are driving my lotto car! Nicely! Congrats. My current lotto dream is sadly not a NEW car at all. As great as they are, something is missing. I would build my own. It would look like an early C3 but totally re-engineered.
LT with headers still the best sounding sb ever made. Thank god nothing ran out in front of him you have 0 control at at that speed Went 158 in the Ca desert...strong side gust and a rabbit that just appeared drove it home I had no biz going that fast. 0-120 is enough for me. Awesome vid man
You can tell this dude knows what’s up. Good shifting. Hand placement. Gloves. Downshifting so as to know rely on the brakes fully to slow down. Nice work
