I just did my passenger door regulator a few weeks ago. I have to agree with you it's a very easy job to complete. I enjoy all of your videos I have learned a lot from them.

Last year, I bought a beautiful ZO6 with 21K on the odometer, adult owned, never been in the rain, yada yada. I love the car, it is Torch Red, black interior, cam, headers, performance clutch, custom wheels etc, car is pristine, not a scratch. Last week, BOTH of my windows stopped working. They will both go down, about an inch, then, HARD STOP. I am a retired helicopter mechanic and have no problem doing the replairs, but, I am a little baffled that BOTH windows did the same thing, the SAME DAY. Have you seen this happen before? I have not opened up the doors yet, was hoping to get some ideas before I open it up. I love your Channel Subbed last year. Thanks for the great, well done videos!

Hey there Mark, hello again from around Atlanta, Ga.. Thanks for the vid. I used your older vid to take the door apart and adjust the glass a few weeks ago. I can tell that my driver's side window regulator had been replaced with an aftermarket unit. The thing is I think that there must be a couple little brackets that were not re-installed on mine. I mean the one that may have gone to the "fine adjustment" bolt shown at around 14:18-14:21 that is long and vertical with a green cover on the end and to the right of the 12mm bolt that holds the glass in the rubber pads. I think it's a 7mm? Because when I adjust the bolt it moves up and down, which basically means it did not do anything to adjust the glass height. It would have to be connected to the window some how to raise and lower it a few mm's. Think of it like the bracket on a lot of older car alternators where that bolt and bracket tightens the belt for fine adjustment, then the main bolt tightens and locks the alternator in place, before serpentine belts and spring loaded belt tensioners became the norm. Like on my old '92 Volvo 940GL and my old '86 Mitsubishi Starion. Because the little "fine adjustment" bolt has to stay stationary so that it moves the window glass up or down a little. It didn't do anything because the bolt went up and down and the glass stayed still, so my only option was to loosen the 12mm bolts that squeeze the rubber pads against the glass and raise the glass manually a few mm's then retighten. I think that the passenger side still has the factory window regulator installed so I want to remove the door panel and just see if there is a little bracket going to the long vertical 7mm bolt. I did spray white lithium grease on the window slides and now the window moves up and down much smoother and the motor doesn't sound like it's working so hard. Plus with it higher against the old rubber window seals it's much quieter with less wind noise. Edit: Or is that bolt a "stop" adjustment for when the window goes all the way down and rests in it's lowest position. I'll have to figure that out.

I did this job, but I only needed the motor. I was glad because window position on a convertible is critical to get right, and I didn't want to mess with it. plus, just the motor is much easier and cheaper. I tried to go OEM at first, but when I pulled the motor it said Mexico on it, so I went to a local parts store and got another one that looked the same and also said Hecho in Mexico on it. Some people will suggest pounding on the door in a particular way to restore function, because the motor is a sealed can type , and over the years, the carbon from the brushes wears and makes a little pile of carbon dust that when it gets high enough , shorts out the motor. knock the dust down and function is restored . But I figured with my miles, , it was time , and it ' s easy to just replace the motor, although without removing the glass or regulator, you do have to reach in and work blind at times,, because your hands block the view.

I replaced the regulator on my 1999 Pontiac TA, and it took me over 2 hours.

So it looks like I might be having to do this on my 03 z06. Before I bust out the wallet and start ordering parts, could you confirm if this sounds like it would be related to the regulator/motor? When I roll the window up or down, it makes a crunchy/grindy noise. Currently, the window still works fine, other than the terrible crunching noise. In the past, I had an issue where the window just stopped working and had to do the silly "hit the center of the door" trick to get it working again. To me, it doesn't seem like there is really anything else it could be aside from the regulator/motor that needs swapped out. Edit: Also in regards to the little clips you needed that you said kept breaking off on the door, did you get those on RA as well, or just randomly from elsewhere on the internet?
