C5 Corvette Oil Change Maintenance

Before making the trip to Corvettes at Carlisle, I needed to change the oil in the C5 Corvette. All the other fluids are fine in the car, so after changing the oil, there shouldn't be any mechanical issues. This is my 4th year going to Corvettes at Carlisle, but it is my first time getting the fun field pass. Corvettes at Carlisle is the largest Corvette show in the World and it's a great time. If you haven't been to Corvettes at Carlisle, I highly recommend it.

WARNING: It's necessary to elevate the REAR of the car to ensure the oil flows FORWARD to the oil drain plug. The C5 sump is flat and wide; it can hold up to a quart or more of OLD oil when flat or elevated higher in the front. If you fail to remove all oil, then fill with 6-1/2 qts. with your new filter, you will overfill...and the LS1 will not be happy. Neat trick on the cranking before start...did not know that...thanks.

Love all Corvettes..'69 being mu favourite. The C5 though are alsi classics. The styling has lasted well as they still look like a modern sports car today. Great condition and low mileage with a lovely engine bay..so cool. Regards from England. Ps. What would a C5 like this cost to buy?.

I appreciate it. These cars have definitely aged well for sure. Depends on a few factors, but in decent condition with reasonable miles could be $12k-$18k depending on year and location. Add more for a Z06.

It's a bowl of soup out here today. Disgusting. Cool trick with holding the accelerator down to prevent it from turning over. I wonder if that works on C6's and beyond.

Humidity better go away for the weekend. Rob from C5 Diag taught me that trick. Pretty sure the car realizes that your at full throttle and to protect itself, it won't allow it to start. I would Google it for C6s before you do it lol.

I used to drive OTR,and I would pass thru Carlisle frequently. One year I came thru during Corvette season,and Damn! It was vettes everywhere!

Thanks for the video! I’ll be changing the oil on my 03 this weekend. It’s 101 degrees here in south TX. Didn’t know about depressing the gas to circulate the oil👍👍👍

It’s the same filter for the c6 ls2 I usually just put 7 quarts the dam POV system sucks a lot of oil if you beat on the car

There's 2 ways... for both turn the ignition to on without starting the car and press the gas pedal down 3 times or go to the oil life screen and hold reset on the DIC.

Since you do drive the car and it's not some weekend toy, if you do cam it I wouldn't go overboard. I'll get like a Z06 cam or something very close to that of the stock Z06 cam. Will give it better performance and sound and you won't have to take it in to tune it because the factory settings would handle the cam. I just plan on throwing a OEM Z06 cam in mine.

I agree, I definitely want a streetable cam. I'll probably step up a bit bigger than stock LS6 cam but it won't be much bigger. I'm gonna call BTR one of these days and get their input before pulling the trigger.

Have you ever looked into doing painted (yellow) calipers? I’ve been doing some research into TPS who does powder coating. Seems like there is some good reviews.

I did buy a yellow caliper paint kit, but I am considering powdercoar instead. Yellow calipers will look nice so it's definitely something I want to do.

It's no biggy, then again it might be. I would suggest you install a magnetic drain plug. Save the Wave.

@@YellowVette04 Yep. This will be my 8th consecutive year. My toothbrush is already packed. LOL I'll be there with my club, Natural Glass Corvette Association from Thursday until Sunday. Stop by the club tent which will be located between gasoline alley and the Pavilion on the far side of the Fun Field. Save the Wave.
