Great information. In Germany the C5 Z06 is so rarely seen on the streets that it is a great head turner. Stock sound is way louder and exotic than the one coming from Porsches that are widely spread here.
great video Lyle. my 99 Billy Bob is amazing. bought last April w 18k miles and last October it turned 20k miles. 100% bone stock except for the LED headlights i swapped out last spring. puts a tremendous smile on my face every time i turn that key !
Lyle, ever since your first C5 Z06 video, I have had a renewed appreciation for the car. However, this video blew me away. It's hard to believe that any C5 Z06 could hold its value that long. Live and learn.
Rob, I’m about to make a purchase on a 2001 black Z06 with about 9,500 miles on it. It’s in the top end of excellent condition. I have two questions. Is $34,000 after fees a fair price? Do you think my 2022 Camaro ZL1 will increase in value now that they are no longer in production? Thank you!
The C5 Z06 will basically retain it's value from here on out. Cleaner ones will creep up slowly over time given this type of car will never be produced again.

I’m going to guess 10 times for the Indianapolis 500 pace car. Corvette’s been around a while and being the only true American sports car….other than maybe the Viper. Point is: Vette’s bound to have had plenty of opportunities.
I bought a 2003 Z06 in Sept 2023 with 4,700 miles, perfect with all the marketing and paperwork and I’m driving it. I would hate to have something happen to it, but I just can’t leave it parked. I hope I don’t hate myself for putting miles on it.
Fantastic info... Thank you! I have a 2002 Z06 up here in Canada and absolutely love it. One question I have always wondered is : how many C5 Z06's are still out there. Each year it seems many get wrecked in accidents, weather events such as flooding and tornadoes as examples. Curious because as less and less become available, their values should climb due to reduced availability. would be an interesting video if rough numbers were available for all the years... or at least by class. Cheers Rob
Rob, I know that roughly 28, 300 of them were made from 2001-2004. If we figure that 25% have fallen to attrition through misadventure or conversion to track use only, that would still leave over 20k of them out in the wild. I think that their values will remain steady for the foreseeable future, with a continued gentle rise in value as time progresses. I don't think that they will ever be worth big money like a '63 split window, but they are a solid investment and great driving machines, overall. Lyle
I paid $22K for my '03 Z06 with 81K miles on it last summer. $2K of that total price included an extended service contract that the dealership offered. I consider it a Good-conditioned car.
I want so badly to love the C5 Z06 but I just can't get past the FRC thing. I won't drive my C5 convertible unless it's nice enough to put the top down because I hate the look of the car when the top is up. Plus I love driving with the wind in my hair so a coupe with the top off or a vert with the top down just appeals to me. I'd rather spend the same or close to the same money on a LS3 C6, but that's just me. Not hating on the C5 Z06 owners here, to each their own.
I'm looking into buying a 2004 z06 44.000 miles are these are good motor wise realy like the look of these cars and can u upgrade motor with cam ands heads
These cars are really solid from an engineering standpoint. They are far more analog and mechanical in nature than the later cars, and I love the way they drive. You can certainly upgrade the LS6 engine as you mention, just make sure you strengthen the bottom end before adding power to the top end. Lyle :)
like any collector car they will go up in value as people put miles on them and more crash them. clean ones will continue to increase. and the 01 is sought because it is the first zora since 1963
Whatever became of the '95 C4 with the gremlin in the engine that has puzzled everyone? OBD2 not give a clue? (I ask that because after dropping a new crate engine in my Jeep TJ, the shop couldn't find the problem with the new motor, even though it was spelled out on the OBD2 meter). I've wondered if he has the coin if better to just put in a later model engine than the time/labor costs mounting up for this one?
I am going to guess 10 as I believe every gen except C1 and C2 had at least one Pace Car and I believe there may have been more than one in a couple of the generations.
The regular C5 are back down again and nows the time to get one I personally dont like the C5 because of the interior feels the cheapest out of all the generation but exterior is one of the best looking
I’ve got a 2003 50th Anniversary convertible. I agree that the exterior is gorgeous, but the interior is cheap. However, the 5th Gen Vette has the roomiest interior which is a plus for a tall guy like me. I’ve added a few modest mods to the interior to make it a little nicer.
nice to hear some C5's are holding good values. The street convertible is all I need , I particularly enjoy that the top folds down flat, unlike some designs , and consider the C5 a sweet spot in the corvette line.
You have to understand that the insurance companies will only pay out 50% of value on a salvage vehicle if it is destroyed. they will charge you the same for the insurance as they would for a clean titled car, of course. Also, WHY is the car branded? Collision? Flood? Fire? Those are very important differences. Let me know what you find out. Lyle :)
@@csvette thanks for the reply. Car was fine until 2018 where it had damage to the front left side apparently minor degree of damage according to the Carfax. It was then exported to Europe in 2019 so it's a bit of a mystery
@@colinleder5683 desirable cars with salvage titles often get shipped overseas, as they can usually get a clean title on the vehicle once it is on foreign soil. The odd part is that it got shipped back to where it has a salvage title forever. I'm sure there is an interesting story around that little jaunt! Lyle
@@csvette Yeah, being from Europe I'm not familiar with how registration and car stuff works in the USA. it spent it's first 15 years in Ohio, then accident in California, then back to Ohio and again California before being shipped to Germany. I would love to discover more about what happened haha
@@colinleder5683 I can tell you that light front damage is very common on these cars, and usually it does not affect reliability or performance when the repairs are made responsibly. Lyle
I owned a 2003 Electron Blue / Black for about 10 years. I bought it in 2005 with 3k miles on it for 35k and sold it in 2015 with 13k miles for 28.5k. It was a great car. The interior left a little to be desired, but I was solid otherwise. I sold it to buy a new 2015 Scat Pack Shaker Challenger 6 speed which I still own.
