MY APOLOGIES - ONE SMALL MISTAKE IN THIS VIDEO, WILL ADDRESS IT ON FEB 28,2023 Always looking out for you guys and making the extra effort needed to continue to bring you content, thanks for watching
A great eye-opener video, the C8 Corvette is definitely not your dad's Oldsmobile anymore, watching this video makes me feel like I've gone back to tech school, guys thank you very much for giving us a preview of what it takes to get done certain maintenance procedures!👍
Wow! Rick & Chuck. All your Tech Tuesday a great. Thia one had the most meaning to me. I too am a tracker and want to keep my C8 fully maintanenced. Thx
It's not only amazing how clean the fluid was, but also you can't see a scratch on the bottom of the car, even though you jumped it. 😂 Very informative as always, thank you both for sharing your knowledge.
Rick, this video was worth the wait. These were very important and interesting things you need to know all in one video. Great work for you and the team helping us owners and soon to be owners.
What is the part # for the molding lubricant? I'm just as curious what the price is for the service normally, and also- what is the cost for adding the 2 Liters to the DCT?
Great video on maintenance! We drive our car so this is great information for us. I hadn’t thought about the relearn on a tire rotation and that makes a ton of sense. Thanks Chuck for this reminder!
This is a lot of great information. Thank you. My local Corvette technician and I talked about rotating tires on my C8 Corvette. He didn't think that it would be important unless the car is used for NASCAR.
Fabulous job, guys! The more I learn about the maintenance of my C8, the more I worry about my dealer's service department being up to all of the specialized tasks required. Fingers crossed!
This probably is the best video you have done. It's great to see what a mechanic has to do in order to change both filters. The best part is that Chuck was the real star of this Tech Tuesday. Does Chuck make house calls? :)
Because of the different tires sizes from front to rear, how do you actually do the tire rotation with the different sizes? I was told you can swap side to side but not a full rotation from front to rear? Please advise Chuck and Rick
Thank you for the video for us DIY Guys...I plan to do a Transmission Oil & both Filter changes every 10,000. It's never too early for a Fluid Change. All it will cost me is materials.
Rick, it would be nice and helpful for your viewers if you could share with us what your shop there charges for the maintenence you perform. It would help us to have a guide as to what to expect when we have to service our own c8.as usual thanks to you and chuck.
Rick & Chuck - Thanks for the informative video. I hope my dealers tech. is as thorough as Chuck. I have been using the grease since you first introduced it about 2 years ago.
Rick... did Chuck do the electronic Flush (recycle) through the old dct filter prior to beginning the 3 yr/45,000 mile empty old/refill with new transmission fluid? I hope every service department completes "all that work" like Chuck did when mine is due! GREAT video, much appreciated!
That's a new instruction GM recently put out. Last year, when I changed out my DCT filter along with the added two quarts, there was no mention of a hydraulic valve flush procedure anywhere online.
Wow, the design/engineering tradeoffs necessary to build a mid engine car are significant. I remember mechanics complaining that engineers don't consider maintenance requirements. Having to jack up the transmission just to remove the pan is an eye opener the days of the backyard mechanic are long gone. Service experience at your chosen dealership is a significant part of the ownership experience hopefully mine will have technicians with the same knowledge & experience. I am anxiously awaiting a 2023 HTC factory order which will be my first Corvette after a 15 year hiatus. I am new to your channel and find your videos very informative & entertaining. Keep up the good work it is appreciated by many out here.
My Chevy dealers Corvette tech didn't even know there is a special oil for the C8. They put in the European formula. When I asked about changing out the transmission fluid they said they don't need to change the internal filter, just the standard DCT canister filter. How can they not know the basics? I am afraid to take it to any of the dealers around me in Northern Illinois.
Awesome video Rick and Chuck! Mid-Engine and Easy Maintenance do not go together! But it has to be done and the proof was in your tranny fluid. Still looked new! Very nice of you to do that for the new owner! Class act all the way.
Hey Rick, my 2020 Corvette has 19s on the front and 20s on the back so I guess you switching left rear to right rear that the only way I see it. Great show today now I know I will take it to the Chevy dealer for my complete trans service .I would hate to make a mistake only a $20,000 Transmission
Super cars require super service and information. You guys provide so much great technical info. Thanks to both of you. DO you get the employee discount on the flush !! LOL
How about telling us the cost of this service. Also, noticing how Chuck was having to put some effort into adding the transmission fluid and you mentioning you still have to add the extra (optional) two quarts from the top, why not add all the fluid from the top?
You full till fluid starts to weep. That's a normal full. Than you start the car and cycle though the gears with you foot on the brake. Forward and reverse. Than top of the fluid in the side hole . Than if you want the extra two quarts you have to add through the top fill hole.. lots of other techniques but that's what is needed
I read some comments it's like a half ass video of what you did I'm keeping my Z51 manual he'll of lot easier and I'm sure a lot cheaper cause I've had it flushed and the clutch reservoir fluid changed oil filter and oil labor was 59$
Love watching this segment. Super valuable!! I may have missed a couple episodes but if you get biger rims (and tires) are they able to recalibrate the speedo?
This was great info for C8 owners. It just goes to show you that proper maintenance is key to the longevity of your vehicle. Just curious about the amount of time needed to do all the work performed in the Vlog? Tech Tuesday is something that I look forward too. Keep up the great content and information.
Can you please point us to where it states to change that flat Trans filter? I asked three dealers about mine a week before this video came out, and they all said it was a "lifetime" filter, and didnt need to be changed.
I am totally confused now...What the heck is the flat filter when you took off the pan??? Is this included in the free dct filter change?? I see no where that filter is mentioned in manual...??? Love the info. and site but this is ???
Thanks guys awesome video. So did I understand you correctly you changed your DCT filter with every oil service? I have a 2020 HTC Z51. I'm coming up on the 3 years and wondering what the full transmission service you performed costs? Also when you just do the DCT filter do you add any fluid or is it a pretty minor amount you lose and nothing to worry about? I don't have the two extra quarts, but plan to add them when I do the full service. No track days just yet just fun spirited driving. I just hit 20,000 and just replaced the tires yesterday. Will definitely be doing the dielectric on all my seals, doors included. Thanks again for all the great videos.
Go in the maintenance tab from steering wheel and scroll down to transmission filter. Hit it and hit ok to reset to 100%. You can reset oil life from here as well.
Congratulations on your knowledge! Maybe you can help me ? We changed the transmission of a 2023 C8, after that it doesn't start the engine, doesn't turn off the panel, we received the fault code DTC U1346, we are in Brazil and this car doesn't sell here, it was imported directly, they said this is an electrical problem, Bad wiring or connector, if you can help me with any newsletter, photos, videos, I would really appreciate it!
Great Video! IMO: MANDATORY VIEWING for Owners! The Transmission Job is probably not a DIY Project for most of us! You’ll need more than Jack Stands, Speed Ramps or a 💩Load of Concrete Blocks! And, get the hammer for the Piggy Bank.
I missed the C8 model year of the blue car you guys were servicing, but I believe all C8s have different size directional tires front and rear. How are you going to rotate different size tires, or was that a joke I missed? There is no way to rotate tires on my C6 Z51 or my 2024 C8 Z51. I must have missed something.
Rick and Chuck - seems like Chevy could have easily built in a feature that you could disable any brake "self-test" via the infotainment screen, or the OBD system. It could then re-enable any background self-test mode the next time the vehicle is started. Seems rather ridiculous that Chevy would make you disconnect the battery, when there's a much quicker, easier, and just as safe way to disable it. Just my 2 cents worth.
Rick, I’m looking at some c7 Z06 with Z07 package with really low miles (less than 10k) and they are selling for almost what they did in 2017 and 2019. Close to 100k. Are these worth that or are they about to drop in value significantly in the near future when more c8 z06’s come out. Or do you see the low mile c7 z06’s with manual always holding their 80-100k range? I found one I love just had to pay close to sticker price on something 5-7 years old. Thanks
Everything is all over the place I am about to take in a 2016 Z06 - auto chrome wheels , kalahari interior with competition seats - sold new by me …sale price should be about $74,900 - if interested text me at 740-749-8377
@@RickCorvetteConti Looking for 7 speed I appreciate it though. Hope it sells quick for you. U think these are about to have a big dip in price or may hold strong being last 7 speed corvette’s?
Great video, but I was told the first step of changing the transmission fluid is to initiate a DCT "flush" that flushes the fluid from the valve and solenoids? Is that true, and if so, how do you initiate it? Thanks,
Horsepower obsessed channel did his and I think it’s just running at a higher idle for a few minutes before changing. It didn’t look hard to change at all and Amazon sells the filter for $113
The more I watched this about the dct and transmission fluid change, the more I’m positive my dealership doesn’t actually do that. Am I supposed to be charged for the hard to reach transmission filter? Cause I wasn’t. Lol
When I worked as tech at a shop, worst thing I ever saw was a guy came in for a flat repair. He didn't want to pay the 20 bucks to patch the tire which was just a slow leak. 😒. So he ask to just have his spare put on. I open the trunk and he had 10 bags of concrete mix in there. I was so mad. I had to take them all out to get the spare out. I told my boss don't accept any job from customers that don't remove their mess before bringing in their problem. This was back in 2002. I imagine that most shops now will also do this with customers.
Hi the tires from front to rear are different sizes, just wondering about the rotation ,usually you change from front to rear, depending on the recommendation , sometimes diagonally ,so just from left to right front, left to right back ?
What a ripoff. Horsepower obsessed channel did it himself on his Z06. I plan to do my Z as well and the filter is only $113 on Amazon. It comes with the 4 new screws and gasket as well.
For a 7500 mile service check which included oil and filter, DCT filter, added one quart of transmission fluid, one quart of oil additive, and a bottle of gas treatment at Malloy Chevrolet, Charlottesville, VA......$1100. All prices for fluids and filters were double what you would pay yourself. Typical for most repair shops. Took the car in at 7:30 AM and it was finished at 11:15 AM
@@eddiekiplinger2270 shouldn’t the first service for a new Z be free? Palm Chevy in ocala, Florida gave me a certificate for the first service with a new purchase.
@@Rob_S_Z06 That's what I though as well. I purchased my 2020 Stingray used and only had less than 700 miles. Apparently the service has to be performed in the first 2 years
There is no required relearn procedure for the TPMS after you rotate tires. If you notice when you put the tires on in the first place the car knows which one is the front left front right rear left and rear right because of the position of the sensors in proximity to receiver. This doesn't stop happening when you rotate the tires. The car knows which tire is where.
@@Maximum1A You can do an extra step if you want but degree or not I'm telling you that the system works and you can go out right now and in 10 minutes verify it. The same certified technician put a title up on the screen and stated that there is a 3-year and 45,000 mi transmission fluid flush and that is absolutely not the case in fact tech authority states you are absolutely never to do a transmission fluid flush on this vehicle. It is a fluid drain and fill only.
