But the C8 is going to be quite beatable on the street by cars like the GT 500, Z06, Hellcat in it’s variously iterations simply because if it wants to race those above its’ class in the higher power to weight category, roll racing is what will come its’ way as far as anyone with a brain (and/or access to RU-vid) is concerned. What it will get from a dig will likely be rare, coming from the likes of Porsche Turbo S’s, McLarens, 488’s and so on. We know that won’t be pretty! Have fun with the base C8 beating unmodified Mustangs, C7 stingrays, supras, etc if that turns you on.

William Godfrey Ah, but I was speaking of the base C8 Z51, not the Z06 headed our way a few years from now (latest word). With the current C8, you think it’s just about to transition from impressively efficient in its quickness to pure animalistic fury, like its competitors mentioned above, but then...oops... Instead, it just shifts into the next highest gear. It’s basically caught in between at the moment-so impressively quick that no one in its $$ class with a brain will take it on from a dig, but unable to match better power to weight competitors that can be had for around the same bucks on their terms from a roll. Until the new Z06, have fun beating up on base V8 ‘Stangs, Supra’s and the like-just make sure they’re not modified! Oh, and be cautious about the secondary vibrations inherent in a flat plane crank engine with as much as 5.5 liters displacement-they can be nasty! Personally, I’ll wait a few years to see how the durability factor plays out before I trade in my C7 M7 Z06. In the meantime, if a C8 wants me, we’ll be doing 40-50 mph rolls (I already know how that works out). Best wishes, William!

@@danielpv7570 Wrong, the GT500 has a DCT as well. The difference is the vettes engine sits over the rear wheel thus giving it a 40/60 front/rear weight distribution and optimal traction front engine/rear drive vehicle can obtain.

@@GODWITHUS0712 Mustang will never go mid engined, camaro will also never go mid engined. If they did, it would defeat the entire purpose of cheap v8 muscle car, and hurt sales significantly. Cheverolet is lucky that they have the corvette, which is in its own class with no competition from Ford.

This is the difference traction and weight distribution makes. It is light-years ahead of front engine platforms.

Basic bolt-ons (pulley / intake) and E85 tune is netting 1000 whp on the GT500. Won’t be easy at all for the C8 to get ahead even with forced induction.

rear wheel drive!! its insane

Having the engine closer to the rear tires puts more weight on them for better traction. So much so that the vett has a hard time doing a burnout if at all.

If you think that's impressive you should watch some McLaren's or Porsche's ;) nah jk, it is a beautiful site to finally see a Corvette be able to launch from a stand still with almost no wheel spin :)

Wigletron: sadly the C8 has troubles on the track unless you increase the negative camber. Then you start eating tires. Hopefully they fix that with future versions. More HP with the ZO6 etc., will just increase the eating of rubber.

You mean how "quick" the C8 is. The speed/mph it runs in the 1/4 is "fast", acceleration times are how quick a vehicle is. The C8 is by no means much quicker than its predecessor. 118 trap speed is 2 mph faster and only 1/2 of a sec quicker, 11.8 vs 12.3. C8 is 3700+ lbs. The best 0-60 I've seen in here is 3.4 for the C8. A driver (StangMode) that took a new GT500 on the streets in LV before release ran a 3.4 sec 0-60 run too. It all boils down to driver skill, how well they know their vehicle etc. But I must say the GT500 boggs down and launches, no make that crawls, like granny getting out of bed in the morning.

Nothing besides one car is lighter and is mid engine. What it did show me was when a big boy start to stretch its muscle its bye bye time. The vette layout is the only thing making it look impressive. Dont act like its 495hp is just so badass its doing wonders. That 776hp just showed you whats gonna happen if the real estate has some distance

Dequarius Wells keep wishing the GT is down over 100 ponies and wouldn’t pull much if any on the big end with the ZR1 coming stock with 755 to the GT’s 650 ish even with it’s DCT it can’t make up that tq gap with less than 600 twist and the ZR1 over 700tq stock
