I'm about to purchase the 2021 merida scultura 400 disc for around 1940 AUD. Should I do it? Do you think it can handle light gravel? I'm so tempted, not sure if it's the right decision

My caad13 rim brake weighs in at just under 18 lbs, that's with my Hed jet6 rims, sram red chainring and cranks... Groupie is 105 r7000 with a ultegra r8000 cassette. 👍🏼

Brian Ongay Arenas what bike would you say would be good for a guy that sucks on the flats . I’m a small guy and just wondering should I go with the alr or allez. I need a good climbing bike. But if the allez is a faster bike and could hand with the alr5 in the climbs then that may be a good choice. Just don’t know which one will be a better buy. Like I said I’m probably better off to beat people in climbs lol

@@jessedavis1489 I think you would be better off really developing your climbing ability. So a climber like the emonda will help. You may want to look at riders like Emma Pooley and see how she trains

Interesting bottom bracket info there, I didn't know that about the Scultura 100

I just checked out the Scultura 100 on 99 bikes and it says it has a square taper cartridge style bottom bracket.

What’s a one all best buy for a guy that sucks in flats and are better on climbs. The allez or alr5. I know that it want always be hills so I’m just wondering would the allez hag with the alr plus be faster on the sprints.

@@jessedavis1489 for climbing it comes down to weight and I think the emonda might be a lighter. The allez will climb, and sprint well but the position might be too aggressive if you plan on doing long rides. Maybe try the allez and see if you find it comfortable. Otherwise they will both be great bikes

@@jessedavis1489 Indeed, whatever is lighter (I concur with @MelbourneCyclingSegments. I believe, for climbing a lower stack is slightly better overall. For endurance - a slightly higher stack is better (but at the cost of speed). For speed on flats and for descents - the lower stack is better. For looks, the Émonda ALR 5 (especially in purple flip) absolutely smokes the Allez, in My opinion.

CAAD10 is an awesome bike. I have one as well as a nice carbon bike

I am also 5'4" and rode a size 49cm 2013 Allez Comp. Fast on flats and great on climb. The Allez Sprint should had no problems climbing. Whatever bike you decided to buy, make sure not to go over size 50cm as it might be too big for you. Good luck.

@@BrianAndTheBike 99bikes and bike zone stocks bmc in melbourne but I agree with it being expensive. I think if you're able to go to Canyon open show (if they have one) might be worth while to check it out and test ride before buying it online. Might be able to save a bit and get quality parts otherwise I would stick with merida/trek

I really would like fore bmc to put out some framesets off there alu bikes. I was really excited when I seen that BMC alr01 but the sram I didnt like that much. Would be really great if I you just can buy a frameset alone and put a Ultegra of dura ace on that . I'mm considering buying a trek emonda Al or a Sprint again I have had 2 of them in the past and I really like the allez sprints, they can fit 28mm tires to. But I have u caad12 now and it really nice but I liked the allez and allez sprints more

The canyon is not as light as the caad and in case of warranty or replacenents is gonna be easy in the caad. But the geometry of the endurance is comfy.

I’m in Melb. I got a Canyon Ultimate Al frameset before they stopped making them. The welds are a bit poor but the ride is phenomenal. It’s under 7kg with alloy bar/stem, chorus gruppo and Zonda clinchers.

They are both great bikes, the emonda might be the better all-rounder though. The Sprint is more suited to racing

@@melbournecyclingsegments7510 does Emonda good at sprinting on flat surface as well? Because Allez sprint geometry seems more aero than Emonda. How about CAAD13 and Emonda? Actuallly I prefer Emonda finishing, CAA13 welding looks like crap.

@@DavidLiiuu I've got a carbon emonda and the geometry would be less aggressive than the Allez. But really it all comes down to the rider so just get the bike you like more and enjoy it

Unfortunately Giant stopped selling the TCR SLR in Australia a few years ago and we only have carbon TCR. I think the aluminium TCR SLR would be an awesome bike and probably as good as any of the bike listed here. I rode the earlier 2014 SLR and it was great. Entry level carbon is not much lighter but will be more comfortable on longer rides. But if that is out of tour budget get the SLR it will be a great bike especially if you say it's for racing where comfort is less important

@@melbournecyclingsegments7510 carbon is roughly 370 AUD more which I don't mind. I'm more concerned about crash protection. I'm sure SLR will be way more comfortable than the bike I ride now, I'm okay with it. If there is no difference in performance I would likely to pick SLR.

@@LiamHaHaX as long as it has the 11speed Shimano 105, yes I would still get it. Infact i still have it 12,000km later. Im only now upgrading to a new bike. You cant go wrong for the price with the Meridas :)

Melbourne Cycling Segments I have an Allez Sprint that I love. I can also say that the the caad12 and the Emonda Alr are awesome also. Two more awesome alloy models are the BMC team machine Alr and the Bianchi Impulso. I find that they all have a light responsive ride that equals carbon in performance. I was also told that the A6 alloy used in the Fuji Roubaix is the same as Specialized E5 alloy. I don’t know if it is true but it’s what I was told by two different bike shop owners. Both owners also told me that Giant(largest bike manufacturer in the world) makes most of the bikes we ride because they make them for other manufacturers. Manufactures like Specialized, Cannondale and Trek.

Melbourne Cycling Segments from my experience with them the Allez Sprint is the stiffest, fastest, most responsive bike I’ve ever ridden regardless of material. The rest have what I consider a comfort ride. Although all of these feel like racers to me. All climb well also. I would definitely recommend riding all of them. The two that surprised me the most were the Emonda Alr and the Impulso. I was actually going to purchase an Emonda Alr until I rode the Allez Sprint.

Melbourne Cycling Segments I would say that reasonably is a good description I don’t find anything uncomfortable about the Allez Sprint. I do long rides all the time on it. Also with the Allez Sprint it seems the stiffness negates the weight. It just jumps and responds to every little input. The Impulso is very high on comfort but the Emonda Alr(2017 or 1st gen) and Caad12(2017) are probably just as comfortable they caught up to Bianchi with those models. To me the Impulso(2015) was and still is comparable to carbon comfort/cobble bikes when I rode it it was back to back against a Cannondale Synapse, Specialized Roubaix, Scott Cr1 and Scott Solace they all ride similarly Although the Solace and the impulso seemed a bit stiffer through the bottom bracket than the other two which made them better climbers. The Allez Sprint(2017) has a Carbon fork and Seatpost so there is decent amount isolation from road vibrations. I thought I was going to purchase a caad12, then I rode an Emonda Alr and couldn’t justify spending more on a caad 12. Then i happened to stumble upon an incredible deal on my Allez Sprint. This is the fastest bike I’ve ever ridden and that’s really why I got it.

Quick fresh research just now tells me around 1,100g for a 56 plus fork. Basically the same as the CAAD12. Fork is around 380. So yeah, my video numbers alot more accurate than whatever boat anchor you were weighing ⚓

Oh and by the way.... Claimed weight for the SuperSix Evo Rim is 976g for a painted 56cm frame, plus 368g for the fork, and the same 162g for the seat post. In any case, Cannondale are all shit regardless.

Just check out weight weenies forum. People claiming there caad13 is about 300g heavier than Caad 12. They are saying frame real weight is around 1400g+fork. It’s a heavy frame. I can be wrong😊
