Yes the CAAD12 can go up against any carbon bike, and I don’t see the CAAD13 being any different. My CAAD12 was a blast to ride.

Love the CAAD series but the weld quality seems like a step backwards... would look much cleaner if the welds were ground down a bit like the old CAADs.

Can't really take my eyes off that weld on the seat tube. Once you see it, it cannot be unseen. And I'm not sure about the colors. I'd like to test ride it though.

I'm happy owner of CAAD13 ultegra disc 2020 black pearl, frame 62 since 3 days. So far very happy with the choice. Previous one was gravel Cube Nuroad Pro 2019 on tiagra.

this is the first road bike I ever bought. I like it. not much competition compared to the old 1973 fuji special road racer i bought for 150 bucks.. the CAAD is faster lol. the welds don't bother me. I don't have 5 and 10 thousand dollars to spend on anything nicer.. i looked around and this bike was my best option. might get a power meter and lighter wheels nxt year. did a 60miler down to homestead from Miami beach today and had a beautiful Sunday morning. i would recommend this bike to a friend!

My Caad 12 is my favorite of my 5 bikes. It’s lighter (7.5kg) and quicker than my 2019 Specialized Tarmac Expert. Saw the Caad13 in my LBS and the welds are awful so will stick to my caad12.

A lot of complaints about the gnarly welds: On the earlier CAAD's the seat stays and top tube wrapped around the seat tube which helped to hide the big welds needed. My CAAD 10 has the same welds as the new 13, they just aren't as visible. Consequently, the new design doesn't have the same elegance that the earlier models had, but it is what it is. If you want clean lines in this design then the SuperSix EVO is the choice. I personally like the "classic" look and bought a 2019 SuperSix. Also, nothing new in this seat stay design. GT Bicycles created a similar design as far back as the early 1990's and they're still selling it - yes?

That's not the reason for the attrocious welds, it's because they are not handmade in USA anymore like before and the weld smoothness have taken a nosedive as far as Cannondale standards go which they once had down to an art!

I rode a CAAD 8 for years. With upgraded carbon wheels it was a stiff & smooth ride. I wanted a new bike for this year so I got the TREK Emonda ALR aluminum bike. I'm very happy with it but now I kinda wish I had waited a few months until this one came out to compare.

Have just ordered the Emonda frameset, will get it built in a few weeks. How do you find the handling/comfort? I've heard mixed reviews from solid/confident to nervous. Figure it's a good fit for me, light, think BB86 is better than BB30, and better quality finish with welds/paint. Easy to put my own inline seatpost too. This CAAD13 surely will ride well and the silhouette of the frame is great, but I think all those other points would still have pointed me to the Trek... or BMC Teammachine ALR.

@Craig Lloyd .I really like the handling. I find the ride quite comfortable but I put a pair of Fulcrum wheels on it with Conti GP 5000 tires.

initial reaction was it doesn't look as good as my Caad12 in the charcoal grey but.....the spec and value look good definitely worth a ride - be nice to see it in a darker colour which might tone the welds down a bit...and i'd like to know the weight if you have it...thanks

I really like the mudguard mounts for this bike. However, I'd like to see a comparison between this bike and the CAAD 4 model from the late 90's early 2000's with hourglass seatstays and power pyramid downtube. This design was superior to anything else on the market at the time and I find it hard to believe anything today could be better.

Welds are chunky to show it’s not carbon. I rather like that as I flaunt my Alu Fuji Roubaix in the face of the carbon cookie cutter. CAAD13 looks good.

i understand your take on it but from an ex welders pov, the welds are a bit messy too heavy and they dont look like they were cleaned properly, i can see spatter i am sure.. still lovely but the quality is in the detail..or not ..

Rose is selling alu bikes with no visible welds for 1350€ Cross Pro. Dont know what happened to cannondale there. Especially for the price

Because Cannondale is owned by Dorel Industries that is nearly broke. Look at their stock price. Company is bleeding cash. Also, owns Schwinn bikes which has become a lower-end brand. Same will likely happen to Cannondale.

The welding on my old CAAD 7 is much neater, from a welding perspective certainly a step backwards, I also can't get used to the ugly computer mount, it looks like an afterthought.

I have a CAAD4 and the welds have been sanded so well, the joins are seamless, and in Saeco paint it looks like a carbon monocoque frame - and made by hand in the USA!! No school like the old school, with DA7900 it weighs 7.6kg

@@ImranWorldCyclist Hi in the USA it will cost more ,why ? me being a metal finisher , Punch press , welder, metal grinder and polishing , painter, CNC programmer now for have a nice finish on the welding it will take to much man hours to grind those welding and the cost per hour in the USA is to high for Cannondale smooth those welding they have to rise the price on each bike i hope i explain my self my 2 cents

What is your take on the fork recall from Cannondale on the CAADX range from 2015. I had the email in June '19 called the local dealer on July '19, no fork replacement till January '20, that's 6 months not being able to ride my Cannondale. Check out the recall and lead times, absolutely shocking.

Good stuff and it looks good , but much better to show say the caad12 105 or ultegra models . Realistically this is too expensive for anyone buying an aluminium bike and most will go carbon at that price point .

You wont see it as Caad 12 is lighter and sacrifice nothing from performance pov. Caad 13 have mudguards eyelets which contradicts all that "aero" blurp statements. You can also use it as a nice 4k winter rig :). Caad 13 is a disgrace... so as new Tarmac tho.

Are people sure that these welds are "bad"? Take the Allez Sprint for instance, the welds are super chunky but it's by design. My suspicion is that the welds look like that for a good reason.

I'm really really really want to buy Cannondale Topstone alu but it's impossible to buy in Thailand because poor Cannondale dealer doesn't import Topstone. They import road bike only.

Can't blame them that much when you think of how the bike industry in thailand is doing right now. Some dealer barely managed to stay alive and many of the LBS closed down in recent years. They can't risk importing and stocking models that's not going to sell.

Here in Australia, this exact bike would set me back an eye watering $7499aud. For the exact same money to the dollar, I could purchase any of the following; Trek Domane Sl 7 Etap 2020...or the BMC 2020 Teammachine SLR01 Disc FOUR ULTEGRA Di2...or the Specialized Tarmac Disc Expert 2020...or even the Cannondale SuperSix Evo Carbon Disc eTap Force AXS 2020???.....So why the hell would anyone part ways with that much cash for an inferior aluminium bike with welds looking like they were done by the work experience kid?....Gotta be a fool to buy this bike.

That weld joint between the top tube and the seat tube is truly horrible. The welds on my 2017 CAAD12 are sooooo much better and honestly, I can’t see myself wanting to “upgrade” to the 13.

clive Lunt Cannondale does not do Campag groupsets on their bikes. You’re better off buying the frame and installing it. For the bottom bracket, BBinfinite solves that problem.

I think your overstating the importance of a frame vs. components. Yes a lot of riders might prefer say a DA drivetrain, a light weight crank and better wheels then investing in a carbon frame w/105 and $200 wheels.

How can a computer modelled aluminium bike look the same as it's carbon counterpart. I'm thinking it was designed that way to keep up with what the customers want cosmetically. The CAAD12 is the last true computer modelled one in my view.

I changed all moving parts and put racing 3 tims to my Olmo Dynamic Plus 2008 Al carbon frame the weight with pedals is 8,4kg so similar. My new components are Campa Chorus and Record. So similar, in this but i do not like the brake locations at all in this model.

The Cannondale caad bike that were made in the USA were a much better quality product, Cannondale did paid much more attention to detail with smoother wields, and great paint jobs. This new caad 13 series made in taiwan with their lack of quality smooth wields, and lack of attention to detail is very poor in comparison.

Carbon is overvalued! I only want to buy aluminium bikes. Although I don’t like this colour or the price! Wow those welds are as bad as Canyon’s! And those cables! The more I look the less I like it!

Carbon is still WAYYY better, but of course this will fit some tastes and budgets. Except the $4k for aluminum proposition. Lolz! High end steel is the only alternative to steel these companies these companies should be looking if they weren’t merely interested in making a quick buck. Sadly, they are.

When a triangle has all sides the same size is very strong and impossible to break.(chain, down tube stays and down tube is about the same size) It’s about time Cannondale does this frame... equal triangles...

It looks like someone stuck their old chewing gum under the top tube/seat tube area. Are they all like that, or is it like that because this is the demo bike ? It looks like desert camouflage color. Maybe they're trying to get the military/those who have served to buy their bikes :)

I am pretty sure the version we had at this launch was a production model. The version we had in for review had the same and you can see pics here road.cc/content/review/269731-cannondale-caad13-disc-105-2020. Might be onto something about that colour scheme seeing as our review bike was a darker green

@@drasztikus If engineers from my company make welds in alu like here it would be disgrace for them. They are quite nasty welds that`s a fact. I bet Cannondale cut the corners here saving money as people usually swallow all that marketing blurp without thinking nowadays. Customer times are finished since marketing guys tells you what is nice and good and what you want. You dont have to know it :).
