We have a similar dish called Bakwan in Indonesia. Only we add carrot, bean sprouts & spring onion to the batter, more spices, 2 types of flour, and no egg. Crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. I think the japanese have something similar as well.

It reminds me of Egg Fo Young, yet better. I prefer her sauce, & cabbage instead of mung bean sprouts. The bean sprouts in egg fo young, go off supper fast, & cabbage has a great shelf life in the fridge.

Why would you boil cabbage? It has enough water to be sauted after onions, cover fir 5mins and it will be cooked. Why add extra water which again needs to be removed.
