Wow! I always wanted to make stuffed cabbage rolls since Mom made them when we were young, but didn't feel like fooling with the cabbage boiling and rolling. This sure makes the process a breeze. Thanks for bringing back a flavor memory.
Love your channel! I have been a fan for years. My husband uses the Slavic "Halupki" term for cabbage rolls. His Orthodox church has an annual Halupki festival in Marblehead, OH. People come far and wide to get their fill. Nice to hear you mention the low carb option! ☺️
Hi Miss Helga from a fellow PA yinzer. I want to give your Golumkpi a try . It looks yummy and I like sauerkraut . I used to eat it raw in Germany when my aunt made it in her root cellar. Thanks for sharing thr recipe.
We always have jars of that same brand of sauerkraut in the pantry...It's just good stuff!... I heard you pop the lid in the video, I have to use a jar opener on them!
I love this as an easier way to get the flavors of golopki by not having to do the cabbage steaming and rolling. The plastic crockpot liner I wouldn't use, heated plastic is connected to cancer. It's not that hard to clean out a crockpot. Thanks, Helga.
When I'm traveling and don't have access to water, it is. But that is rare and I don't use them at home much. Honestly with my line of work, the plastic liner is the least of my worries but agree.
My Romanian mother in law used tomato soup and a tiny bit of brown sugar along with the kraut in her sauce. I substituted finely chopped mushrooms instead of rice when I made her stuffed cabbage to cut back on the carbs. This was a very tasty substitute. She used one-fourth pork to three-fourths beef.
Is it as good as it smells? That looks delicious. Because of the stronger flavors of cabbage, tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce I think ground turkey would work too. I don’t buy it for health reasons except maybe financial health. I have a roommate who loves to cook and try new things. I think he will like this. The sauerkraut is new, but I love it. I’ve been making a grocery order and cabbage is on the list. 😊
This will be much easier than making traditional cabbage rolls. It makes a big batch for a one person household...do you think this would freeze well? And just an FYI...your written recipe does not include vinegar and Worcestershire sauce.
You've added a few ingredients in the video that are not in your written recipe, can you provide the measurements of those? Also can I use regular rice?
I'll try to fix that. I'm so used to not using a recipe, I sometimes forget what I did. If you're using regular rice or brown rice, you will have to add it long before and use a 1 to 1 ratio Rice to water. Takes a lot longer.
