I was born and raised in egypt and the cabbage I grew up with is huge, It's bigger than the large orange pumpkins. When I moved to the US I was shocked at how small the cabbage is here but I was also shocked at how big everything else was😅. Great recipe btw I'm making it for dinner tonight ❤
I am 13 years old and love your foods I make them with my friends and we love it I also share some of them with my family. I wanna be a a cook like you
You are an amazing woman! Everithing that you do looks so elegant, classy and at the same time very clean and easy. It's so inspiring to have you here! You are so lovely! 💓
If I didn’t love you bunches before today ( which I totally did) I do now! OMG I need this soup! My oncologist said to eat as much nutrient dense food as possible and this is the ticket!! Oh the possibilities! Thank you Lisa 💕💕
Foods that are high in nutrients and put together in a soup makes it nutrient dense. This cabbage soup is an excellent example of nutrient dense. A carrot is higher in nutrients than say a cucumber. So just find foods that are higher in nutrients and your meal is nutrient dense! I hope this helped!!
I make cabbage soup all the time but with different spices and never with parsley. Will definitely try this recipe. Cabbage is high in fiber and good for loosing weight.
Deelish!! Added some cubed, cooked turkey for some protein and all 3 of us in this household really enjoyed it, which is saying something since our son isn't a big fan of soup generally. Thanks Lisa!
Hello Pat Goud, How are you doing today? Its really nice having you on here.. I saw your profile on here and i think we definitely are on the same page on many levels. Trust, communication, loving, honoring, God-fearing, understanding, patience and respecting your partner. So crucial to provide balance. This is what creates such great chemistry between two people that are committed to one another. Yours faithfully Pat Xxx. From Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
This is a fabulous soup! I froze some and, after following a tip to allow it to thaw completely before reheating, I really enjoyed it as a convenient leftover. Thank you for this quick, delicious healthy addition to my favorites. :)
This is a very versatile soup indeed. While watching it gave me ideas for Spanish, Italian, Japanese, morrocan twists. Thank you so much for contributing. Kind regards from The Netherlands.
Hi Lisa, I absolutely love the aesthetics of your channel! All videos are always filled with such light and chilling energy, and your voice is just a stress killer=) P.S.: Greetings from Ukraine!
This looks so nourishing and delicious! After a week of lots of sugar/processed foods/junk my body is CRAVING this. Thanks for the great idea! I think if you wanted to add protein a white bean would be perfect.
Veggies and fruits have protein and so do beans. Quinoa is a good source of protein. I make a breakfast with quinoa which I make ahead of time and cut up fruits and I also put cut up brocolli in too. Iodized salt and garlic powder. Many times I put in some canned great northern beans from Trader Joe’s oh I forgot the powdered ginger and ceyla cinnamon
How’s the book coming along? This is a lovely soup-so simple and soothing to the digestion. Even in these very hot days in Montana I need to have soup on hand. I’ve been following Dr. Berg’s ketogenic diet plan and feel sooo much better. I have lost 15 pounds in belly and hip area and also face and neck jowl area. Although I am basically not much overweight, my attempts to lose where I needed to in the past were not successful. The one thing about this diet, after you purge your pantry, is having good food ready to prepare, recipes available that are simple and yummy, and a determination to follow through. My results were so astonishing and gave me new hope - a positive outlook. Your meal plans and recipes fit right in and I am grateful for your research and dedication to healthy eating. Although grains and gluten and legumes are not a part of the diet I’ve still been able to use your guidelines. Thank you Lisa!
Just a suggestion but if it were me i'd ad the chopped tomato's to the sauteed veg in order to get some caramelisation happening as tomato's tend to be a bit sour. This will result in the soup being a bit sweeter.
I make this cabbage soup every week, but add ground chicken, sliced mushrooms, and mixed beans too, and with each bowl I stir in a dollop of nonfat plain Greek yogurt and dill. I eat it every day for lunch. Yummy!
I love cabbage! This is great I am going to make this for my family! They will love it. Your clear presentation makes it look so easy. I also make RU-vid videos and I feel so lucky to be able to learn from other talented creators like you!
I really want to thank you for this recipe ! I use this daily on a routine now, i eat it atleast every week ! And since its so much it can last for 2/3 days !
I grew up on cabbage soup! I love using a beef broth (for non veggies base) and add in bell peppers. It is very yummy topped with mozzarella cheese too ❤️
I’m a lover of soup, and I also love the sight of so many vegetables. Is this soup freezable? Asking cuz I cook for myself, but am new to cooking and am kinda lazy concerning cutting in half recipes. 🤷♂️😆 TY
Thank you for sharing something so wonderfully nutritious and simple and showing us how to do it. Thank you and keep sharing if you would please. Thank you.
Looks like I'm going back to the grocery store tomorrow! This looks amazing. My parents did the cabbage soup diet when I was little and I HATED the smell. 😂 Now, I love veggies. Give me all the veggies! I'm going to add garbanzo beans and chicken bone broth as well. Thank you!
Y'all have no idea how much I've been craving and eating cabbage LATELY! I think it's wonderful my body is craving healthier options!!!! Will def make this and add a lil turkey sausage 👀😂
A super soup and such a clear presentation. I keep making this! I do not jettison the cabbage 'heart' as it is packed with nutty flavo(u)r and can be chopped or sliced finely and thrown in with the shredded leaves. The suggestion to add lemon juice really works, accentuating the other ingredients. I find a little apple cider vinegar or balsamic vinegar has a similar effect, and it is fun to experiment.
Similar soup, instead of green cabbage, I use red cabbage for a sweeter taste. In addition, when adding spices to Sautee pan I also add 2 tablespoons of smoke sweet or hot paprika and 1 tablespoon of ground turmeric and 1 teaspoon ground cardamom. At the end, instead of lemon juice, I add 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar. Also, for ease, after Sautee the veg, I use a crockpot on high for 4 hours. My recipe, or mother's recipe is more eastern European or from the Slavia areas.
I've been making this for years, love it. Your rendition is almost exactly like mine, but next time i am going to add the lemon, good idea! You said in the video that you do not believe in fast detoxing; totally agree ! It's consistency with a good diet. Great video, just subscribed.
@@aceshigh5157 no. just simmer it until the consistency is what you like with the cabbage; its amazing. Aces High huh? Great song by Iron Maiden!! lol cool name
This is my kinda jam! (For a minute I had a flashback to that old cabbage soup diet craze from the 80’s) but this one puts that old watery one to shame! 👍
Uncanny timing! I had to replace cabbage that didn’t quite make it to the end of the week. I’m making a cabbage salad and now I can make your ‘no worries’ cabbage soup, because wasted food is nothing economical! Thank you!
Thank you. More veggie receipes, pls! There are more and more people going on a veggie diet or at least trying to reduce meat consumption nowadays, it's impirtant for the environment and for our health .
Hello! This looks super delicious! Not to mention real good for our health! And I can’t wait to make some myself! So, I have a question regarding what kind of pot to cook this in...Do you have any videos dedicated to which pots/pans are best/healthiest for cooking? Thanks again for your wonderful videos! God bless you! 💖🙏🏼
Hi Rose! I do have a video in regards to my favorite pots and pans, and what they're good for here: downshiftology.com/best-cookware/. But for this recipe, any big pots will work.
I love cabbage soup. My recipe is almost exactly the same, but I also add a teaspoon of crushed red peppers for the simmer time. It cooks in nicely and really makes the soup stand up on its own.
Made it, love it! Used fire roasted tomatoes. Tastes even better the next day! ♥️ I like it the way it is but my husband didn't care for it the first day, although he's eaten it 3 days in a row. 😂 Gonna play around with this one, using different broths, adding meats - pulled pork, ground beef/pork/chicken, adding veggies - broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, etc. Thanks for a great recipe Lisa! 😊👍
I was a lifetime member of Weight Watchers when it first came to our community. We were given a recipe for Suicide Soup, so called when we were so hungry we wanted to give up. It was made with the so called “free” vegetables and broth and tomato juice. It was delicious. This looks like the almost identical recipe. We could eat a bowl of that virtually anytime. I loved it, and I am going to make a pot of it as soon as I go shopping.
Looks great! What do you think about letting it "sweat" for longer (15-20 minutes) to become more sugary and cooking it longer (40-50 minutes)? It seems more flavor is released this way.
0:59 Carrot 1:51 Cabbage. 6 to 8 cups 1:48 Oinion, carrot, celery, 3:47 Medium high heat. 2 tblsp olive oil. 3:52. Two cloves garlic after vegetables have sautéed for 4 to 5 minutes. Half tspn oregano, half tspn basil 4:02 Let cabbage sweat for 5 minutes 4:30 Four cups veg broth 4:47 Simmer for 10 minutes or soft until your liking 5:09 Lemon juice. 1 to 2 tblsp
The biggest unhighlighted tip i learned from this video was how you squeezed the lemon into your hand to catch seeds while letting the juice fall directly into the pot.
I just made this with half a Napa cabbage (4 pints shredded)... it tastes amazing and it came together in a flash! Thanks for all your wonderful recipes ❤️❤️❤️
We tried this recipe for dinner tonight. It is delicious! I forgot the tomatoes. I will add them tomorrow when I eat some for lunch. I added extra celery and coriander. We topped it off with parmesan cheese. Thank you for sharing!
I love cabbage soup! I make mine similarly, only I add a touch of sweetener (important to round out the flavor of tomatoes), and use aged balsamic vinegar instead of lemon juice.
@@callipitter8474 Where did I say that? I didn't. I said sugar rounds our the flavor of acidic foods like tomatoes, but you can just as well use any sweetener. It's a flavor enhancer just like salt is. Hence, it's good to add a little sweetener of your choice to savory foods, just as it's good to add a pinch of salt to sweet foods. And no, I don't have a sweet tooth and don't particularly like sweet foods. But I like my savory foods to taste the best they can taste, hence a pinch of sugar. How to season foods 101.
