I became a franc fan about 10 years ago drinking excellent renditions from Kenefick Ranch. My favorite memory was in Paradise Valley Montana ordering a bottle and discussing with our waitress how much we liked it. She laughed and said, “Guess what? As you were being seated the table beside you was being vacated by Tom Kenefick.” I’ve found many other good ones since and believe franc stands alone well.

Excellent, concise info. I like the Cab France from CA and even WA. They are clearly more full bodied than their Loire brethren.

It's pretty cool that a cultivar that most likely comes from Basque country in the western Pyrenees, Spain has adapted so well to such a wide variety of terroirs and regions. Besides the regions mentioned in the video, Villany in southern Hungary makes amazing CF, so much so that in 2000 the late Michael Broadbent said that "CF came into its element and found it's second home in Villany". They do seem to combine the freshness and lightness of light bodied, cool climate CF with the depth, complexity and gravitas of more warm climate, medium bodied CF. Terrific content and delivery, its great to see Cabernet Franc getting some attention & love as so much of the wine world is so obsessed with Cabernet Sauvignon.

Wine Folly fanboy here! ... And CMS Somm from Niagara Region in Canada as well. Cab Franc here in this region is world class and is often found as a single varietal... Smokey, spicy, with ripe dark fruit and oak ageing.... Cab Franc can also weather our harsh winters... so much so we Cab Franc Icewine here, also appassimento style. Soooo versatile Keep up the great content eh. 😉

NJ here, our cab franc output tends to outshine its progeny in quality as well. People still tend to flock to grapes they know but the francs tend to simply be of a better ilk.

I opened a bottle of Bourgeuil - Yannick Amirault - La petite cave 2006 that I found in my cellar. I'm pleasantly surprised about the balance, complexity and length of this wine. A beautiful wine that aged very well. Yet another region worthwhile to explore. I want to jump in my car and get a case from the owner. After all, it's only 600 km away from my home near Brussels, Belgium. Thank you for your nice video.

I have been in Chinon, definitely worth a visit. Nice wines, I like them slightly cooled to 14 degrees. Watch Argentina as well for 100 percent Cabernet Franc. But to be honest, usually blends of Bordeaux grapes offer more complexity.

Seriously? Cabinet Francs from Virginia’s Middleburg AVA and Monticello AVA are wonderful expressions of this grape. I’ve conducted blind studies with CA, Chinon, and Northern Virginia CF. Decanter named a biodynamic CF from Ramiisol Vineyards in the Monticello AVA one of the ten best in the world!

Cab Franc is probably my favorite wine as a single varietal because of many of the characteristics mentioned in this video. I'm a little surprised that California cab francs weren't mentioned given that there are some really amazing examples coming from there as well.

Cabernet Franc is one of my all time faves. Chinon is prolly my go to, but there are so many good places. Picked one up in Michigan that was really good too.

I've tried to like Loire cab franc. I don't hate it by any means. But I'll just have to admit that the predominant flavor profile of green pepper/asparagus and pencil lead just isn't my cup of tea. I'll look out for it as a single varietal in Bordeaux but I expect it'll always be best working its magic in a blend, maybe like petit verdot?

The challenge is finding full varietal Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux! There are less than ten full varietal producers in a region of 6 000 or more and a vineyard region comprising 15% of the global vineyard planting of this grape. It's more southerly climate allows a fuller ripening and the green pepper flavours disappear. At the same time, Cabernet Franc has that ability to be successful in many different climate / regions, making it an excellent candidate for future success.

Always liked Cabernet Franc blends …I ordered a bottle of Tignanello without knowing anything about it except it had Cabernet Franc..tasted fantastic and discovered later it is actually a well known wine
