Never had any problem with 15-hour flights, even in economy (so long as the plane isn't built before the 1990s). I'd gladly fly directly from Sydney to NY just so that I don't have to bear the sight of LAX.

At least Qantas has shown to other airlines, what you can do for long and ultra long haul flights using a 4 class A350-1000ulr. The A350-1000ulr has opened up new opportunities for the A350-1000 variant putting pressure on Boeing's let to be built B777-8 sales.

I still think given the highly niche nature of the _Project Sunrise_ flights, the plane should be configured with Business and Premium Economy class passengers only, just like what Singapore Airlines did with their A3350-900ULR's.
@lmlmd2714
@lmlmd2714 2 года назад
The volume of travellers between UK and Aus is absolutely insane given they on completely opposite sides of the planet. Furthermore, a huge of this demand is leisure/family & friends. You absolutely want an economy offering. QF already run direct flights LHR-PER with the 787, and even with that significantly smaller plane, they've always offered a classic economy product. The A350 Sunrise will strengthen it as the A350 economy 3-3-3 seating is way better than the 787 (which is pretty cramped), and also will be operating to Sydney (and prob Melbourne too in future), cities with even more demand than Perth. They'll find tons of economy demand, no prob at all.
@pullformore
@pullformore 2 года назад
SYD LON is a different market to SIN NYC. SYD LON is more leisure, with lots of families using the route, whereas SIN NYC is more business-heavy. Hence, Economy is more important to the route - a carrier needs a lower cost option. But let's say Qantas did as you suggest and only offered premium cabins on the route: the political ramifications for Qantas for not offering economy on the route would be huge, the outcry by the Australian public would be furious and Qantas would get absolutely hounded by the press ("Qantas doesn't support the Aussie battler"). So no, there always way, and always is going to be an Economy cabin on these flights.

However as a regular traveller I do appreciate the Premium ecconomy section of the up comming A350-1000ULR, as specially if I can get an upgrade, as I have a airmiles card with a oneworld alliance member. Part of the “joy” or perhaps relief of such a long trek is the stopover that breaks up the journey, a chance to have a break in the stopover airport, and to change planes. We don’t know what it’ll cost but they charge a premium for LHR PER in biz. $6k for SQ J class with a stop vs an est. $11k non stop it’s a no brainer to stop in SIN.

This is the most environmentally unsound way to fly long distances - it id FAR better to have a refueling stop instead of hauling fuel to haul fuel

Take off and landing consumes much more fuel than cruise at altitude, along with taxiing on the apron. You're wrong.

I have no interest to fly to London or US, I will as I had done before fly Sydney to Dubai with Emirates A 380 in business class, relax couple of hours in Emirates launch and then onto Europe again with Emirates business class . It is nice to break the journey as I am not in hurry, comfort preferred.

I am saddened to see that Quantas is having to go to Airbus for the aircraft it needs. The days when Boeing was the go to plane builder seem to be slipping away.

Do u think Boeing would have a ready 777x for Qantas. . ..clearly not

I think they should scrap the economy and just have premium economy. just like Singapore airlines

Qantas might've started the decline of middle eastern airlines. I'm sure other airlines will take advantage of the A350-1000 and make the ultra long haul option more lucrative over flights with a stop over.

They should scrap economy because no mentally sound person would subject themselves to 20 hours upright, that would amount to torture.

From an environmental standpoint making that one extra refuelling stop would pay out huge in fuel savings. Carrying all the extra fuel to carry the fuel… to carry the weight of the fuel, airframe and cargo/pax is unnecessary waste of resources

Wrong aircraft choice should having been 777 9x better fuel economy faster flight time! And better cabins than airbus !

20+ hrs with 33" pitch? Yeah, I'll choose an itinerary with a layover.
