We salvage everything useful from the old camper which was supposed to be the base for the small cabin.
We are mostly looking for electrical parts, plugs, wires, boxes, but also looking for gas stove and anything else that might come in useful during our build.
The main aim is to convert the trailer frame into a log hauler to collect firewood for the cabin from other properties nearby.
As always we are using our HD36 Norwood Portable Sawmill.

A big struggle with our cabin is keeping it warm using natural materials that are inherently leaky. So we really need to close in all the gaps.

Kevin: @wood_chucker_987
Whenever we run out of lumber, we just mill more wood from trees that are right on the property. We'll use handtools like hammers, axes, saw, shovels and prybars, but will also use power tools including chainsaws, winches, atv's, and a chopped up SUV whenever it is convenient.
We will be using cedar and spruce trees that are standing dead so we don't have to kiln dry the wood or let it season.
Please follow along with the full playlist in order to understand the full construction of the tiny cabin.
In this series we use materials around us to construct a small forest cabin.
We'll use cedar, pine, ash, maple, and whatever else we can scrounge up from the 30 acres around us. The aim is to avoid using as much store bought material as possible and keep the budget reasonably low.
Originally we set a budget of $1000, but that included the use of a frame from an old camper trailer. As we build, the budget will remain flexible in effort to produce a cabin that we are proud of and one that will last a long while, be comfortable, and sleep real human beings.

your brother is culinarally challenged ! But he does have alot of neat stuff, as long as he sticks to the script no worries. Great show Chris ! Do we get to see bro making the trailer ? You & bro make a good pair for the homesteading episodes , surprisingly he has some Good manstuff going on. Enough to over look his egg sandwiches, and his political correctness. Thank You for sharing your video, and your series with us. I`m Loving it ! ATB

Just a thought young man, I'd use the battery box and use one or two deep cycle batteries to connect to a pair of led lights in the cabin. They draw very little power and you can keep the batteries charged by the generator when they get low. On a cabin of my buddies, it has a led shop light powered by one deep cycle 12 volt battery and trickle charged by a 110v harbor freight solar panel n charger. God bless

Great work, and a unique perspective. Most online places don't get as gritty as chopped top car log haulers or salvaging old campers. Reminds me of what we do out in rural Kansas. Would be great to see more of this type of content, though the wilderness stuff is great also. Important to be a well rounded man.

Okay guys, I lived in a Motor home for 5 years, full time. So I would really encourage you to go with the GFI plugs because they have their own built in fuses that will trip before you do more damage. Also if you go propane you can have a fridge and a freezer along with the stove and a tankless hot water heater. (which your tank of water could provide the water to.) Also get a solar battery charger to charge battery for the water pump.

Phillips screws are much easier to use with a drill because you’re driver doesn’t slip off when you go fast, flat head is ok for a manual screw driver, in my experience

Still at minute 1 of the vid so I'm not sure why are you mentioning. But yup, even "PZ" screws are even better, they held more torque and doesn't ruin your tip or head of the screw when jumping

One of my main reason for sticking with a square drive is that not only does it not slip.. I can literally grind one out of any other bit on my metabo grinder, or belt sander and it works just as good as a brand new one.

Great job fellers. A missed opportunity though to do a tribute to another legend who recently passed, Super Dave Osborne (Bob Einstein), a dummy on a chair with a helmet, someone doing a whispy voiceover as Kevin smashes the trailer roof in with the tractor... tape a marker to the fork like he's gonna do graffiti on the wall and then OOPS, destroys trailer with Super Dave inside. Classic.

Yep, the good ol Robertson screw! It’s known as a square or Scrulox. The drive is specified as ANSI Type III Square Center and has a square-shaped socket in the screw head and a square protrusion on the tool. Both the tool and the socket have a slight taper. As far as who and why it’s was invented well, after badly cutting his hand while using a slot-headed screwdriver, Peter Lymburner Robertson invented the square-headed screwdriver and screw in 1908. He received the Canadian patent for his invention in 1909. His cut ended up being the reason why a person could drive a screw more quickly with this new design. Another fantastic design feature screw was that its self-centering so only one hand was needed. On top of that, the driver fit more tightly in the screw's head, thereby reducing the chance of the screwdriver slipping out and possibly gashing yourself open like Me. R. The Robertson screw was a big hit big time! The Industry loved it because it sped up production and resulted in less product damage. No one has been able to improve on this design in all the years that have followed! But if see and or hear (most likely you will hear it all over the web and news) a new screw driver that has the world in a shock & awe you’ll know I have completed the very next and very last screw driver you or your children will ever need! my all in one newest driver that I’m positive no one on this planet has thought about this! It’s so simple yet it is comparable to someone redesigning the wheel or make a perpetual moving engine. This reinvented screwy D will absolutely change the world in a wonderful way. I thank you for giving proper dues to the man that invented this screw driver!

Almost lost that lovely big beard in the fire there, Chris. Although, you might have found some missing house keys or something. I had an opportunity to pick up an electric/propane fridge from an old camper when I was building my cabin, but I decided to buy a full size fridge instead. Those little camper units are pretty cool, though. Some things I'm okay with picking up used, some I'm not. For eg we bought a brand new sink for our cabin, because a used one seemed... gross. PS: the melted cheese looked fine to me. Woodchucker.

Cistern Description A cistern is a waterproof receptacle for holding liquids, usually water. Cisterns are often built to catch and store rainwater. Cisterns are distinguished from wells by their waterproof linings. Modern cisterns range in capacity from a few litres to thousands of cubic metres, effectively forming covered reservoirs.
